This dance is a variation of a war dance. As a celebration of valor and conquest, this all-male dance utilizes the shield, which is a weapon of combat of ancient Kalinga, as part of the artistic performance. An exhibition of stealth speed in combat, this dance portrays the chivalry of the Kalinga warriors showing the stances of defence or protection of the Kalinga men towards their community. The Ykalingas have a strong sense of filial loyalty to their family and tribal membership, hence very protective of their own.
