Smash Bros and to extent platfrom fighters are all fighting games Like seriously Smash ultimate: 3rd Strike of the game not due to parry (tho it exists) but is a more fundamentals, spacing and poking heavy game but the combos are much longer and more free flow Smash 4 is basically street fighter 2 where is a fundamentals patcience spacing poking and defensive oriented game and heck (fox pikachu and roy are the only rushdown characters in that game) Melee and rivals of aether 1 and 2: a king of fighters/ blazblue rushdown oriented playstyle (while zoning and defensive play is still there) Brawlhalla: a dash dance wiff punish and juggle heavy game similar to tekken (as zoning characters had to use disjoints and long range weapons and heavy attacks (aka signitures) to fight at range) Nasb 2: a street fighter 4 5 and 6 a meter based fundamentals spacing heavy game as well Multiversus: a wiff punish heavy ground bounce combo heavy game too

As someone who started with Smash. I remember struggling trying to do combos and winning a single round against people in Guilty Gear Xrd. Now Im at a point where Im able to win a set or 2 in tournaments and still grinding 💪

I think I see more platform fighting players move to FTC and do decently then the other way around. Other then a few excepts where the guy might have been an Fgc player very shortly at the start of there career and then just played smash as there main game for ten years. With smash you have players then played smash for 10 years then moved to fgc, and did quite well.

"The best anti-air in melee is a dash dance grab" yeah I'm a stop ya right there, it is one of many options that one can use, but the example given is too specific because marth has a great throw game and can delete fox like that, but they also can just beat them in the air a lot of the time because his sword is a big sweeping disjoint. Also i was a smasher for years but eventually got more interested in TFGs, wasn't too difficult of a learning curve, a lot of people underestimate what melee players are capable of. I will concede that ultimate players are fundie-less shitters on average tho 😂

I love Smash Bros with a passion, Smash Bros players are pretty re-tar-ded! They generally can't read, refuse to read, lack basic learning skills and are just stubborn infants most of the time! Coney's name that Nintendo character challenge for fighting game players puts this into perspective! Fighting game players will generally have a better knowledge of other game sand often play other games! They are one note on average! But the flip side, smash bros gamers generally refuse to play anything that isn't Nintendo and even then they still refuse Nintendo lol

I appreciate the analysis but the overall conclusion is just flat out wrong. Name a SF6 player to get the level of success that fatality and ridfles or even Dabuz have in their game in smash. What about DBFZ/Guilty Gear players and leffen or space? Riddles had gone final round multiple times with menaRD, he will never bring his Kazuya to last stock, much less getting a game. I get your main demographic is smash players, but I think a more accurate title would be something more like “What Smashers get wrong about fighting games” or “where smashers struggle with fighting games” or something in that nature

It’s been 3 years and people still don’t talk about the fact that you can just do forward, then down + A, then hold forward again.

I'm good at both because I started with traditional fighters.

Tbf Leffen is pretty good at arcsys games and If Riddles switched focuses he probably could become a pretty insane Tekken player.

I first started in smash and now play tekken. i havent touched smash in what seems years, and it feels like i would play better in it than i did before

Ive never heard of smashers being bad at traditional fighters, maybe ultimate players because there game is brain dead, but melee players? There freaks of nature, my boi is a long time melee player and no joke he can pick up a game almost immediately. We were playing marvel 2 and like, two days in he was doing msp tod's, he said and i quote "this games kinda slow and easy" to fucking MARVEL 2 lol. Melee is the most complex game ever made.

People in the comments acting like you can't be a Smash player AND a fighting game player, and that Smash isn't a fighting party game that can be customized to be more of a fighting game or party game. Smash Ultimate literally has a mode inspired by KOF, as well as a KOF stage that would transition perfectly into a fighter. You can play in stamina mode which works like traditional fighting game health bars, toggle what are essentially super meters, and, iirc you can adjust the gravity in your matches, though I might be wrong on that one. You can also add rounds like in fighting games (rounds are separate from stocks, so you can change it to be one stock per round if you want to be more authentic to the feel of a traditional fighter), and adjust the clock.
