#1. There's nothing subjective in a double; either it is or it isn't #2. Mediocre refs who are in doubt of themselves, like this stupid rule because it's going to make their lives much easier but will no doubt degrade the level of the game. #3. I have a rule in mind for the next year: Let's change the name of the game from "volley-ball" to "grab-ball". Terrible decision just terrible! 😕👎

@@panagdimi You've obviously never reffed. Ask any ref who's done a HS, JV or low-level club match and, in warmups, the setters look pretty clean. That is until they are on the move in the match. You call an early double, because it was. After a few more minutes, you realize that almost every rally is going to end up in another double call. If you did that, NOBODY will get anything out of the match! WHO WANTS "WHISTLE, WHISTLE, WHISTLE"? You have to try and set a skill line, sometimes an impossible task. Your ONLY TASK as an official is to make sure no team gets an unfair advantage, not to legislate the aesthetics of the game. You have to ref to the level of the game and that is, yes SUBJECTIVITY. If you think there isn't any subjectivity in calling ball-handling, you're living in a dream world. International refs, especially in the men's game, have decided that sending a 3rd, free, ball over can be doubled. Watch matches from VNL or the last Olympics, some guys absolutely butcher the play and there is no call. Power tips that used to get whistled down as prolonged ball contact 25 years ago are now fine. That is called SUBJECTIVITY. It doesn't make you a "mediocre ref" to give some ball-handling leeway to 14-year-old girls. To whistle down EVERY non-perfect set would just make you an over-officious as*hole.

Just means the set doesn't have to be smooth anymore. It can bounce off your hands like it bounces off concrete and the ball can spin like crazy which signifies that it's a dirty set if you can't set it without any spin coming out of your hands. basically, dirty setting is allowed now.

@@MeepMeep88 "Spin" doesn't necessarily mean a double contact occurred. Actually, if a ball is spinning straight 12 to 6 (as if on a clock face), it means the hands had to contact it simultaneously.

@@carseye1219 Yep I'm aware. That's why I made sure I didn't use the word "double contact". My mistake if I implied that it's against the rule. One thing we can agree on is if a setter is able to stop the spin or keep it to a minimal, that signifies that they have great control. And of course assuming they're not catching it where it comes to a complete stop.

They're transferring schools, so, like any other student, they can't transfer in the middle of the academic term. Like any student transferring colleges, they have to work with academic advisors to figure out which classes from their old school transfer over credit for what classes at their new school and what degree(s) their credits will apply to. For most large colleges, as long as their degree wasn't in something super niche, that's not a problem. Also, not all of these players are transferring right away. 2 of them are graduating from their 1st school, then starting grad school at their new school in the summer. The main difference is admissions. At most schools, as long as the student athlete is in good academic standing and the coach recruits them, they're admission to the new school is rubberstamped.

Thank you for the details! May I asked, example: Undergrads term is 4 years study right? Is it possible for the college athletes to transfer school in the middle of the 4 years study? 2 years in Univ A --> the next 2 years in Univ B ? Or are there any extra conditions that needs to be fulfilled? Sorry, I'm just so curious :)

@@darkjedi7 Ah, ok, I understand. In the US, "term" for school typically means semester, trimester, or quarter. So 1 school year is split into multiples terms. So yes, undergrads (athlete or not) can transfer in the middle of their studies and can even transfer during the same school year (ex. 1 full year plus fall semester in Univ A -> spring semester plus 2 more full years in Univ B). That's what 3 of the athletes from the video did. There are extra conditions for athletes some of which are being legally challenged. An athlete typically can only play for 4 seasons but has 5 years to do so, no matter whether they transfer or not. An undergrad can only transfer once. If they transfer again, they have to sit out 1 season of playing their sport. If an athlete's sport season goes across multiple academic terms and they transfer in the middle of their sports season, they can't start playing for the new school until the next year. And if they played at their old school before they transferred, that uses up 1 full year of eligibility to play.

Before PVF/LOVB times, I'm always following NCAA 🏐 and I can't help myself but wondering how does their study term sync with their volleyball period. Because mostly in Europe/Asia/Latin America a player doesn't really need to have formal education to the college degree in their journey towards pro volleyball...they can just joined a youth club/big club with academy level for the grassrooting
