Cleaning Goopy Stovepipes and Sweeping Chimney
Переглядів 21721 годину тому
Had a creosote problem that meant I had to take the stovepipes from the woodstove outside to be cleaned up. Went ahead and swept the chimney with my nifty little Soot Eater overgrown weed whacker tool that makes sweeping the chimney safer and easier from inside my basement, not up on the roof.
Instapot Chili - Happy New Year!
Переглядів 14314 днів тому
I've made this Instapot (one pot) chili many many times and it always comes out great! Stick to the recipe or customize it your way (like adding in some heat). Goes great by itself or with toppings like cheese, sour cream and Fritos! Of course cornbread is great with any chili too. Here's the link to the original recipe I used (you probably have to copy/paste it, it won't hyperlink for me). www...
Cheap Knives for Christmas! Woohooo, lol
Переглядів 20828 днів тому
Saw the Walmart display of cheap knives for Christmas and couldn't help myself, lol Went back today. They have a few leftovers for $3. I didn't buy any, they're really the same as what I had but just saying, if you want any, go now, they are almost gone.
Convenient little fire starter kit for camping, etc.
Переглядів 211Місяць тому
I happened to have a nice little waterproof case I wasn't using for much and it makes for a great camping/survival fire starter kit. I add in a Strike-A-Fire stick or two (I use them for starting my woodstove), a small ferro rod and a small folding knife and it works like a charm. You can use almost any case and it probably doesn't need to be 100% waterproof with these Strike-A-Fire sticks.

Thanksgiving Leftovers - Trying Something Simple
Переглядів 140Місяць тому
Emptying out the fridge, using up the Thanksgiving leftovers! You could try not pre-baking the pie crust first, or at least baking it less. Mine was a tad overdone but it still tasted great! I also had a bit of cranberry sauce on the side but that is kept cold or room temp but really sets off the dish.

The Best Thanksgiving Turkey Ever!

If you are seeing this and it's too late or you don't have time to do the brine, you can still use the roasting technique of 500 degrees for 30 minutes then 350 until you get the breast internal temp to 165 degrees. You can also certainly do the butter soaked cheesecloth step for the first hour at 350 degrees (after the initial 500 degrees for 30 minutes). That will still give you a nice juicy ...
Old Gravely Gets a New Starter Sprocket

Recorded this about a year ago. Never did get around to getting it started, it lost spark for some reason. Hoping it's just dirty points. Sorry for the screen, I wasn't holding the phones sideways obviously, lol.
Revolutionary War Surgeon - Amputation of an Arm
Переглядів 262 місяці тому
Attended an event several weeks ago where we encountered a doctor reenacting a Revolutionary War surgeon and he explained and illustrated how the amputation of someone's arm would go using period correct medical instruments and a good sport of a volunteer. Very interesting and entertaining!

Not installed backwards, installed correctly, just burning too cool, and wet wood. I’ve been told my set up is wrong many times, I’ve had a creosote problem once, when I was burning wet wood, burn it hot, creosote won’t condense and you won’t have a problem. Avoid wet wood if you can, and you can if you gather wood early enough
Yes, better seasoned wood is key but the pipes were backwards. Fixing that will prevent minor creosote issues from getting outside the pipes. I've been burning wood for 25 years, never had thst problem before, even with some wood that was not seasoned the best. Always clean the pipes and sweep the chimney at least once a year.
This is a fantastic recipe!
Yup!
This is very tasty) thanks for the great recipe!
So glad you liked it!
Also if you don't like the rat 1 because of its size and as a result awkward ergonomics check out a rat 1.5 it's ergonomics are extremely good for XL glove size hands like myself. I still can't get over well that knife is done in fit and finish and the magnacut is done very well and they didn't skimp on running it soft, my first one texted 64.2 and the 2nd one I bought 63.6. Performance has been excellent and considering i bought the first one in person at the knife store for 84 dollars plus tax and after doing the Hrc test I immediately went and bought a second one and the receipt had 10% off next purchase so it was 76 plus tax.. You can't beat two brand new models in well made knives and in well done magnacut for round about 170 total. Im not a fan of the rat 1 in hand it's not a comfortable knife to me and the geometry of the blade isn't great not saying it's bad it's just not great. The 1.5 is totally different in hand, the ergonomics are great and the cutting geometry is good as it's thinner behind the edge than the rat 1 so it just slices nicer. I had the 1.5 in my pocket on the last day of work before we take out end of year 3 weeks off and I did a crazy amount of cutting at work getting the storage room cleaned out of card board and it was about double my normal cutting and my normal cutting is a huge amount plus it's spent the last roughly 6 days on the homestead with me and I have done a ton of cutting here as well. With all that cutting its still on the factory edge and has only been stropped for about 8 passes each time about 4 times and the edge is still going strong and comes back shaving no problem with just a few stropping passes that's quite impressive considering like my hogue deka in magnacut I get about a week of use with stropping maintenance and by about day 6 of 7 stropping isn't doing it anymore and it's getting time to do a micro bevel with a ceramic rod or getting ready to need a full sharpening. I've tested 6 or 7 magnacut dekas and they are all about the same so it's not like I just got a bad one but Im confident in saying that the magnacut on both my rat 1.5s is done better than any hogue magnacut I have or have tested. I'm telling everyone the rat 1.5 is a winner and a great value. You are getting a very high performance knife that is done well across the board for well under 100 dollarookies and it's a tiwaian made knife not China so the value is very high when you factor in that. Check one out and I believe you will be happy you did..
Oh how pretty!
There are lots of options out there. I get your point about not wanting to pay for something that can be done basically for free. No arguments from me. That said, these are cheap, convenient and super easy for starting the woodstove so I had them on hand already.
I use hemp and tinder bundles that I make myself and keep my fire starter kit in a little satchel I found at Goodwill. I'd never pay for a commercial fire starter just on principal. Furthermore, here's a free lesson for you: Pull your ferro rod AWAY from your tinder (pull it toward you) leaving your knife stationary in place and you won't spread your tinder around everywhere.
So pretty!
Delicious and tender! Love the low sugar version!
Looks great! Thanks for the idea! Will be doing this after Christmas!
Glad to hear it! Next time I am going to make sure I have some veggies to put in.
Fast Healing for your finger. ❤️🩹
Lol, thank you. I smashed it pretty good a few weeks ago. It's almost healed up now.
Thank you so much for all you do.
You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the video. Did this yesterday, the only thing I did differently was add Bell’s seasoning to the butter. This was the best turkey I ever cooked, juices everywhere
That’s a great idea to add Bell’s seasoning, I’m going to have to try that next time!
Yes, yes searing a turkey before cooking 😋
Definitely makes a big difference!
This is wild 😂 usual suspects
I use Alton’s method every Thanksgiving. The only thing I do different is I use butter seasoned with poultry seasoning and seasoned salt and rub it under the skin. I’ll have to try the cheesecloth method. Thanks for the tip.
so much sadness...That house used to be a beauty.
I agree. When I see places like that my mind wanders, imagining what things were like there in it's heyday. Family gatherings, kids running around, holidays celebrated. Now it's a crumbling mess.
30 minute video to cook a damn turkey??? Put it on 350 for 6 hours.
That's one way to do it but it won't come out the same, I promise.
Six hours 😮, get one these electric roasters it takes me no longer than two hours
Thanks for the heads up! Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
I still watch Alton's Thanksgiving Shows every year. They can be found here on youtube. In fact, Mister Brown has his own UA-cam channel. Check him out today. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Holy cow what is holding this house up? Stay safe out there bro! Cool video & explore! 👍👍🤘❤️
Yeah, I don't know what's keeping it up, lol. Thx for the positive feedback!
👍
I love it
There are (21?) odd shape cams in the starter hub that rotate slightly and grab in one direction and slip in the other. There is a pin threaded into the side of the hub. Before pulling and dismantling the hub I would remove the pin, squirt in some WD-40 or PB Blaster and see if that is enough to free up the cams so that they grab. It is a temporary fix, can be repeated, and has kept my starters running for a long time. If you dismantle the hub, note the shim washers and ALL cams must go back in the proper orientation for the starter hub to work. PaulL
Thank you! I will definitely give that a try!
That wallpapered shed was the outhouse
That's what it looked like but I guess I was so surprised to see that, I wasn't positive that is really what it is.
A very upscale outhouse with a heated seat.
My dad's old house is right up the street from that house literally right next-door. It is dark green with a red front door with a yellow apartment. My dad sold that house. I miss that house a lot.
That's awesome! It's a nice area. I think I know the green house you are talking about, it's a nice one.
Shocked house is abandoned, Looks like ready to be restored..........
Yeah, it seems really solid for the most part. I could see where someone had started doing some renovations, a little bit of new sheetrock in a couple of the upstairs rooms' ceilings. It seems like either they gave up or they are in no hurry and are just picking away at it slowly.
