AN ORCHID A DAY EPISODE 780 Gastrochilius oblique
Eat an apple on going to bed, and you'll keep the doctor from earning his bread." That was the original saying before the words were updated. I by no means belief that an orchid a day keeps the doctor away but i believe any positive hobby is good for the soul and keeps your mind and body fit. This series may not happen everyday but i hope to capture those daily moments on film where i am interacting with my orchid collection and share some of those moments with you. Orchids in order of appearance:
Gastrochilius obliquus
Found in the eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, Sikkim, Myanmar, northern Thailand, southern China, northern Laos and Vietnam in dense forests at elevations of 800 to 1400 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cool growing orchid with a very short stem carrying persistent, linear-oblong to obovate-oblong, bifid, bright green leaves and blooms in the fall and winter on an axillary, drooping, subcorymbose, racemose, to 8 flowered inflorescence with basal tubular sheaths and broad, obtuse floral bracts and carrying fragrant, long-lived flowers.

This was very helpful, thabk you.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's flowering in your living room? Mine is about the same size! Can't wait for it to bloom. Or do you think it could only flower because it came out of a greenhouse
Hi Terry😌🙌Oh, beautiful🥰👏There is a gastrochilus japonicus native here. I'm not sure of where exactly, but most definitely in undisturbed forests at higher altitudes in damp, cool forests.
Those are pretty little blooms! Happy Growing!
Great information! Paphiopedilums are my favorite orchids but most of them are really slow. I do have one that is an exception, ‘Druid Spring’ (primulinum x druryi) requires oncidium levels of light to bloom and produces multiple fans every year. If only they all grew like that!
Interesting facts about that paphiopedilum Terry😌👏The flower is beautiful💖
Beautiful Paphs. Terry
Hi mister , can you help me to get brassavola Martiana, where you buyed please.
Thanks for watching. I got my piece from a friend
That's a fascinating dendrobium Terry☺️🙏💞
I agree. plus it has great color. There’s a reason I’m so obsessed with it.
Hi Terry☺️🙌I enjoyed Watching😌🙏🌟
Happy Thanksgiving!
Gobble gobble
They look Happy! have a wonderful Thanksgiving and stay warm
They look great to me too. thanks for watching
Hi Terry😌🙌It's great to see all the orchids potted up. I haven't used sphagnum moss as a way to grow orchids, but it definitely would keep the ph good and make roots grow as it isn't degrading. I bought a native Japanese orchid that's coming soon in the mail. It's a cypripedium japonicum that has rhizomes, a huge round , plicate leaf and the flower is like a Paphiopedilum. It's hardy too, so I can grow it in the garden👍
That cypripedillum sounds nice. I once tried growing a few and got the pubescens to naturalize but it eventually died out 😐There are places north of here you can visit in the spring where along the roads and gullies and along the woodland trails are colonies of native cyprepedilum. I find them difficult to get the soil and pH right here
I use the sphagnum primary for the aerial roots and my Epidendrum likes extra moisture at the roots
Your Orchids look great for being alone for 3 weeks, I will have to watch this video when it's quite here, I had it turned up and still could not hear the name tags well, Welcome Home Terry!
Hi Terry glad your haul arrived in such good condition. Did you need a permit to bring the orchids in?
No permit needed
Hi Terry, lovely blooms! I just bought one of those phals (LD Gigan King), any cultural advise is highly appreciated. Do you grow it in moss or bark?
Hi Terry😌🙌Excellent to see all the orchids are in great condition🥰👏
it does look busy on the Streets , people are out doing Christmas Shopping?
yes people are flooding the shops. Guess it’s Black Friday here too
Via del Corso❤
Hi Terry😌🙌What an adventure☺️👏💖Going to Italy, visiting a grand orchid nursery, and staying in a hotel with good cuisine🥰🙏The orchids fit in the suitcase nice and snug. I can't wait to see you unwrap and pot them up when you get home😌👏
So many Orchids Terry ❤wrapped all of them securely.
I think so. They will be fine with me on the plane. Thanks for watching!😀👍🏾🙏
you can't carry them back on the plane with you?
That’s what I will do. certainly
Wish I was there
good luck with the travelling and transporting! they are great plants...
Hi Terry missed your videos. Glad you are and sharing your beautiful orchid collection.
What a wonderful treat to be able to tour this fantastic Nursery, you got some beauties!
awesome Haul, I hope you enjoyed you time in Italy
It's been a while Terry😌🙌They have some beautiful orchids in Italy🥰Those Phalaenopsis I had to look up and 'Wow'🥰🙌those blooms! The Angraecums are lush and green aren't they😳💞I see a epicattleya rene marques👏
i cant manage to take care of this one correctly for some reason.
They need warm. No dry period. A slight drying off after new growth is complete but only a week or 2 weeks. But maybe higher light. They light Good Cattleya light with shade from the hottest part of the day
Hey Terry! that was an amazing haul!
Thanks Denise. I think i did good hehe
@@TDMoorethanjustORCHIDS yes, you did!
Hi Terry☺️🙌
hEY HEY! Newman thanks for watching
Hi Terry - I haven't heard from you ... what happened? ----- Patrick
What happened what? I haven’t heard from you

Hi Terry😃🙌Oh, a pendulous brassavola species🥰I have my 2 brassavolas inside now. I took them in early, it's still about 68/59℃. The weather is entering the dry season. I just got my dendrobium specio-kingianum yesterday. It's a white flowering variety. Thanks for sharing Terry and enjoy your brassavola acaulis😌🤲💞
sounds like your weather is alot more forgiving than mine hehe..it has warmed up a bit here at night to high 50s and during the day almost 80 but i'll take it. Good luck with your Brassavolas. THey should like the drier season. Thanks for watching Newman!
Hi Terry , I missed your videos. I see all is well; new gorgeous Orchid unboxing as usual.
So nice of you
Lucky man!
Hi Terry😌🙌It's been a while. I see beautiful flowers in your greenhouse🥰I have all my tropical orchids indoors now except the dendrobium nobiles thaw will stay outside. I have a dendrobium specio-kingianum delivered today, hopefully. It's a cold hardy variety and I'll test that theory this Winter. I enjoyed Watching😌🤲🌟
I think most Den. kingianum hybrids are cold tolerant for sure. Glad you enjoyed. It was good sharing with everyone and thanks for watching newman
They look all snug and warm inside I still have to move a few more indoors soon, hopefully tomorrow!
Thanks Denise. Unfortunately it's been chilly here in the mornings for two weeks. some nights to 29F UGH. So they have been in a while now. Lucky you can still have some out.
Geogeous
You left too quickly… I barely had a chance to say hi. We have to catch up sometime soon.
very nice Terry
The B. Crazy Arachno is amazing, That looks like a wonderful show, lots of beautiful plants!

Hi Terry😃🙌The show looks amazing🥰How are your orchids doing?
They are doing well newman 🙂
I got a $14.99, 3in pot, "Orchid-in-a-bag" from Lowes or Hope Depot sold by Better-Gro labeled "Hausermann's Gala x Hausermann's Jade "Lake View" 3/31/16-10/5/17" in/around 2019/2020. It is a Blc/Rlc with big, heavy white/lime-green petals and sepals with a bright purple tip on the lip. It is now about a $50-$60 size plant and just bloomed for the 2nd time this year! One flower in late May 2024 and 2 flowers on Oct. 2nd, 2024. Unfortunately, I can't find any pictures of the exact flower when I Google the name exactly as on the tag from Better-Gro. The flowers never fully open some reason (almost all the way, but never a really flat presentation), but they open more, are heavier, and have more lime-green color in the petals and sepals if I use a fertilizer with more prosperous (K). When I use CNS17 Bloom (2-2-3) hydroponic fertilizer I get heavier flowers with more color, but I don't get as many flowers as with Jacks Classic (liquid) (3-9-6). Could I not be able to find an exact picture of my flower because it was a 1st time cross/hybrid and therefore it is an "original"/unique flower?
Ah, how wonderful to see you again Terry - you look terrific ! All the very best to you ---- Patrick
What a beautiful cute orchid
Thanks for the info. I've got a gigantea on the way and will use Seaweed instead of my regular orchid fertilizer. Do you also use any Calmag on them?
Nice new Angraecum and Angranthes Terry. They should be good growers with beautiful large flowers🥰👏I enjoyed your explanation on them. It was wonderful😃🤲💞
