I’m looking to get into fly fishing and I’m looking for a dependable, good quality combo that I can have for years to come. I’m debating the Redington original or the Orvis encounter. I’m not sure which one to go with. I will mainly use this just for trout fishing And streams. What do you recommend. From what I’ve been reading 5 weight and 9 ft are the standards for that?

I believe the Fish Eagle is made by Fenwick. I compared them to Fenwick Eagle in my hand. Same rod and same price.

This is a technique I had a lot of success years ago in Colorado lakes. I used the clear bobber and filled it with water about half full. I would slowly reel it in . I recall using about 6 feet of leader.

You didn't mention features. I was reel shopping recently and was disappointed to see most mid level reels don't have selectable anti reverse. I like to turn that off from time to time for various reasons. So it severely limited my reel choice.

I've had a sedona 1000 for around 14 years and it's been great, I use it for freshwater creek fishing and I cant fault it at all. I recently bought a Sedona 5000 and a Nasci 4000, For the minor price difference the Nasci is the better bang for buck. I took them both out the other day offshore and landed a 1m mack tuna on the Nasci. Definitely rate it, a great reel!!

Shimano Shimano Shimano! I don’t have this particular reel but to ask if it’s worth $200 is like asking if a Toyota is worth the $! Personally, I don’t spend $200 on reels. I have a few cheaper SLX’s and they are still going strong after years of use. I just retired one of my Shimano Sedona 2500 spinning reels after 20 years of fishing fresh and saltwater! Moral of the story… Shimano!

Thanks for this video! How well do the slicker braids you mentioned (Yo-Zuri and Power Pro) hold leader line knots? I recently bought a cheap braid because I needed something quick and cheap for a fishing trip, but it basically ruined my trip because it would not hold the leader line knot, no matter what I tried. (It was SpiderWire’s cheapest braid).

Consider turning the paddle around so it doesn't block the view of the registration numbers and decals.

Please don't stop carrying an anchor whether or not you get spot lock capabilities. You never know when you could lose power to components, or something stops working for whatever reason. Also 25' of anchor line is not nearly enough, unless you don't go in water over about 6'. Anchors aren't designed to be used vertically. Please do a little research on anchoring properly, before you get some inexperienced boater in a dangerous situation. And make sure the anchor line is strong enough to handle waves and wind much stronger than you plan on encountering, and that the anchor is of adequate size to hold your boat, and don't forget your PFF, and other safety equipment. Safety first, THEN fun, otherwise, it's... NO FUN!
