Are you referring to you and Rembrandt as ‘we’. Or to all of us as humans in the landscape or something else?

I checked the labels and all of these said they were Pb 28, Cobalt Blue, but I think a few are not. Steve Sheehan, who I took a materials class from would go and look at the paint under an electron microscope to see if they were cobalt molecules, but I don't have one of those! And, thank you!

@@marctrujillo711 I probably wouldn't be able to tell it it had the real cobalt pigment in it or not, like I am sure great artists can. I would like an electron microscope, I just don't know where I would put it 😊

@@marctrujillo711 was just clarifying that the swatch was the Puro line and not the Artisti line. The Artisti line is also great. Quite affordable here where I live and it’s comes in 60mls!

Right? I made this chart for my students so they would have a good index of overall brand quality and was also pleased at how some of the other ones did. You do notice a difference in the very top tier, but happy to see you can get decent paint at an affordable price. on the chart I made for the whites I was surprised at how some of the cheaper brands did as well

It is- I've mounted paintings on paper onto gaterboard and framed them like they were painted on panel and it works great

This was an expensive chart to make, my school helped me by finding part of it and I have continued to add other brands afterwards. There are more brands on the chart now, but they don't include any of the ones that you are asking about now that I've shown you how to do it, you can make your own and include those brands and let me know the results you get compared to some of the default high-quality brands like Old Holland.

@@marctrujillo711 My comment was in no way a criticism. I became hooked on Old Holland as soon as I discovered them, they are a non pareil among oil paints. It's just that I've never heard of Norma, Permalba, Grumbacher, Richeson Shiva, Le Franc, Soho, RGH, Vasari, Vernet, ART Spectrum or Blue Ridge. Daler-Rowney paints are widespread, of excellent quality, and I unequivocally recommend them.

I would put the Daler -Rowney on the chart- I've actually added some since I've uploaded this, but UA-cam won't let me update or post a photo to include them. I tested all the brands that were readily available to me and also tested some that students and friends had and traded them Old Holland for whatever they gave me in exchange.@@alangeorgebarstow

I got this palette from Delacroix, but Sargent used it as well, probably not for a full on finished portrait, but for studies.

@@marctrujillo711 i have been collecting my solvents over the years and seperating them, now im stuck with distilling about 30L and purifying them hehe, mostly ethanol tho

Measuring is worth taking up as a separate issue, basically, you need a frame of reference- head height is a pretty standard unit of measure to use to check the rest of the figure-ua-cam.com/video/I3DQ76uwTXk/v-deo.html

I dilute it about 20%- that's what Gamblin said to do- it spreads the varnish molecules further apart and allows the painting to continue to dry while giving it a gloss.

It’s either 120 or 200 pound hot press.

He was a French Academy artist- probably the best but he can be dry sometimes. You actually have a band of Richer that goes over your quadriceps - which is impressive that he got a part of the body named after him.

I did, a number of colors darken, as well as linseed oil. So I have periodically put both the white and blue charts in the sun. Thanks!

RGH made Doak's paint for a while, although I'm sure Doak wouldn't admit it. They are about the same- good quality and pretty affordable.

I can only get the XL paint, and they only have a "Cobalt Blue Imitation", so the comparison wouldn't be the same. Do they make a pure Cobalt with PB28?

I mixed with Titanium Zinc white. Winton is like melted crayons in a tube, you're right. I checked that every Cobalt Blue was labeled with PB28, although there is some variety within that and also some manufacturers are not honest about what is in the paint. Your other tests sound interesting, have you tried them? I'd be interested to see how they came out.

For Cobalt Blue, I use Old Holland or Michael Harding.

I would not want to try and boil a solvent since they are flammable!

i meant with an electric hot plate obviously not gas with low boiling point solvents just boil a kettle and use the hot water to speed it up or let it slowly evaporate in a greenhouse it's just a good another good way to recycle solvents but more like for extracting certain stuff with a non polar and recycling it and the solids will stay in bottle 1 so u can do this alot for very cheap it's like a seawater extraction the solids(including minerals which is bad but good for no impurties) will be left in bottle 1 and deionized water in 2

@@marctrujillo711 if you would take a bottle and put tube and put in ur greenhouse all of the paint will be removed and you will have the clean solvent in the other bottle but you need a cold water bucket to condense it and stop this liquid evaporating and going back through like u could make a set up where it's somewhere hot and u got a hose that feeds through into a solvent storage bottle somewhere nice and cool with water this is bio distilling just slowly make the holes for the lids of the bottle until tube fits perfectly and cover with any good glue like jb weld and push the tube further in so the glue seals it good and it needs no electric u will get very clean solvent back but if letting the layers seperate works do and make sure u don't lose any to evaporation with lid as much as possible but if you struggle to get all of ur solvent back bio distilling might be better especially living in a hot country take and advantage and keep Recycling! love ur paintings tho amazing

@@marctrujillo711 No im planning to recycle petroleum ether which boils at low tempature it's very flammable and searching for bio ways using sunlight outside i think it would work great for you to get good seal on 2 bottle so no air can escape let the glue set or epoxy even better then make sure ur seals are good and add ur recycling solvent and put that other bottle in some water to lower the tempature and wrap alumnium foil around the top of bottle number 1 but allow space for sunlight at the bottom where the solvent is or i am even planning to make a foil box to put around and keep all of that heat inside hoping petroleum ether will not take long at all as the such low boilng tempature but your could take a while so do that seperating thing and throw the gunk u can't seperate in it because that solvent probably has a boiling point similar to ethanol

Sennelier is designed to be used from the tube without medium, but I haven't found the quality to be as good in their oil paints as it is in their pastels. Even though I have experience with different paints my own preference is for a thicker paint that's very strong like Old Holland. I like it for travel and for plein-air, since the stiffness of the pain keeps it from sliding around on the pallet if it's in a backpack. I mostly use that, Michael Harding and Blockx, Blockx is a lighter viscosity paint as well and you might like to try it. Schmincke Mussini is designed to stay glossy when dry, you might like that as well, although it may be thicker than you like.

@@marctrujillo711 Thank you for your answer. What is your opinion about Lefranc and Maimeri puro ? And do you have any favorite colors that are definitely better from this particular manufacturer (although this question is probably already from the field of professional secrets).
