I compare a typical air assist that comes with a CO2 laser etcher/cutter with an air compressor. I show the difference in scorching left behind as well as any differences in the ability to cut 1/4 ply.

    Did you consider attaching the new water tube to the old and just pull it through?

    Hello, excellent. Please, the diameter of the hole of your laser head is 2 mm? Because it is not the same for connecting devices and it affects the secondary pressure.

    Excellent video. I'm about to add the same compressor to my 100W laser. The difference in scorch is worth the effort to me. Your vid reinforces this to me. One suggestion. Turn your phone sideways and you'll get an easier to view video.

    So you just have to replace the tube, power supply, and move some hose to fit? That’s pretty easy!!😊

    I am just now looking at upgrading my air assist and ran across your video. Did you just hook the California air up bypassing the OEM air assist? Or did you put in a solenoid and wire everything to the controller as well?

    Great VIdeo, and how you show everyone the setup. The only thing I say is missing is a shut off valve so the air doesnt keep pushing out when you are done. I added mine at the connector to the compressor.

    i currently also have a 60 Watt omtech and when I need to replace the tube plan to upgrade to 100 Watt or maybe 80 Watt as you did. I appreciate this video immensely. You mentioned yo have a box - I will call it the laser tube extension shroud. where did you get it. I don't see it as an accessory on the omtech web site.

    The cheapo pump that came with my laser died within 3 days, but I had a little airbrush compressor that worked pretty well, but I am still getting more scorching than you are with 15 or 30 psi. I wonder if I should get a tank for the compressor to fill so I can get a greater airflow?

    good video, bad layout. bit of advice though. First, the compressor has a regulator, so unless yours is broken, there's no need for a 2nd one at the head. Second, if you're going to run a moisture trap like that, place it closest to the tool, not the source. The air hasn't had a chance to condense as much at the head as it's still quite hot. You'll find it serves a far better purpose closest to the tool. With that said, those California Air Tools compressors rock. I used one for years for airbrushing and it's very quiet. You can hold a conversation easily while it is running. I just finished setting up a 60w co2 laser and ran a regulator/trap on the side of the machine and am feeding it off my 80g monster compressor. This helps me get an idea of some settings for the psi to run at for sure. Thanks much!

    • @MaikaiGuy
      @MaikaiGuy 2 роки тому

      I bought the one on Amazon meant for the K40. I had to use the existing plate to mount that box to. You'll need a jigsaw with a metal blade and a drill to start the hole.

      The tube and power supply were less than $900 through CloudRay. Delivery was fast, as they have US based inventory. Tubes that need to come from China have another ~$400 shipping tacked on.

    Thanks for your information, it's very helpful. I'd like to ask, what happens if you run the compressor approximately for an hour. Is the compressor capable of filling itself during that 1 hour cut, can it provide air without stopping? Or do you need better compressor with a larger air volume. Thanks in advance..

  • @afbigfish1
    @afbigfish1 2 роки тому

    Im super new to laser cutting but it seems like there should have been a little more power for the cutting. Also with that long skinny coil hose if you have 30psi at the regulator before the hose you will have considerable pressure drop at the laser. Id be guessing closer to 20psi.

    Nice comparison! Is that the 60W machine? How do you like it? Looking at getting the 55W. At 30ish psi how much is that compressor running? Have heard they do not hold up if running close to continuous.

    • @MaikaiGuy
      @MaikaiGuy 2 роки тому

      I've had it run for well over an hour on a long job. My usual jobs are 20 minutes or less. If you have long jobs in mind, I'd get a larger compressor with more CFM. At 10psi (used for etching) it is off more than it's one and I have no concern about it. At 30psi, it's on more than it's off and I wouldn't go for hours like that.
