Tracy spots an OCTOPUS! 18th Palm site Bonaire 11.29.24

Eagle eye cool stuff spotter Tracy saw this octopus out hunting for food. I was hoping for a longer encounter but it went back into its den and hid. During a couple more dives that day I checked on it and it was still hiding out there. Total octopus count for the trip is 5, three at the house reef (2 common octopuses and one Caribbean reef octopus) and 2 common octopuses at Salt Pier.
Archiving my memories and experiences because my brain is quite the faulty hard drive. It often fails to retrieve files (memories).

Divemaster Laurens showed us a HUGE lobster molt, essentially shedding its skin like a snake and coming out the break between the tail and main shell. It was a fresh molt and was probably shed the night before. Archiving interesting moments in life so they won't be forever lost to time and my faulty wiring. 1017

A few minutes after getting on the boat at the end of the dive, Spider saw a bait ball. I grabbed my mask and snorkel and jumped in. After a couple minutes, Spider threw my GoPro and stick to me. Wahoo! Salt Pier delivers again! Not only did we see an octopus, but also a spotted eagle ray, sharptail eel, spotted moray, turtle, flounder, and the octopus stirred up a small scorpion fish! You can't go wrong at the pier. Offloading my memories on to a digital format because my onboard storage, (my brain), isn't a reliable way to keep memories. 1014

Take a close look at this boat. It is made up of big sections of styrofoam sandwiched between boards and held together by long threaded rods going through the foam and the board with a nut tightening it down and then the rod is bent over. Again, while biking along the sidewalk, I looked over and saw my FIRST EVER Sawtooth Shark. 20 years of diving and I had never seen one. I got skunked for the first 15 days and started to lose hope. Saw a single bigger one yesterday (AND, a first for me- a sawtooth shark!!!) and TWO today just hanging out in one of their 'usual' spots. How bad is your life if you are willing to risk crossing 90 miles of open water in a deathtrap homemade boat like this one? I've seen a couple of Cuban refugee boats in Key West and it always blows me away. My brother and I checked this one out. This one is made out of 55 gallon barrels and both boats I have seen, it looked like they just lifted an engine out of a car and plopped into the boat....

In 20 years, I have only seen 2 of these fish and the last one (first) was at Buddy Dive's reef in March 2023. That video is on the channel. This was my last dive of the trip and I was about to get out when I looked down and saw this amazingly beautiful Cornet fish. One of three frogfish we saw this trip. Two were at Salt Pier and one at Bachelor's Beach. This beauty was a bit hard to get a good look at.
