Just got 12.5.4 on a legacy Model S with HW3 and it’s been a pain in the butt as far as speed control. Caught it doing 73 in posted 50 construction zone as well as doing 23 in 35 for no obvious to me reason. If I am the only one on the road - I can deal with it, but with anyone behind you it’s basically unusable.

Curious what the opinions are of people here, I'm potentially interested in a used Tesla, in my area I'm seeing several 2016-2017 Model Ss and 2021-2022 Model 3s being close in price. Which is considered the better buy today, or does it mostly come to preference?

What do we call an old car? If you have a model S or X prior to April 2021 you are in the same boat? If you had a 2018 Model 3 you got all the new features while cars newer and much more expensive than that from Tesla did not. That’s the issue. Since Tesla chose to wait 3 years to update the design on the S and X is the issue and they should have backfilled these cars where they could. There is no reason why the blind spot camera can’t show when these cars already show it just on a separate screen. To me that feature plus the Sentry live view plus the light show which exists on the X already through an Easter egg is simply Tesla not caring about these vehicles or their owners since getting these to work would be very little effort. Don’t get me started on Autopark. The fact that we have the old autopark still on 12.5 is downright embarrassing.

We are looking at the same year. I heard there were a lot of recalls on this vehicle? Did you have to deal with any of that?

I would tell you one thing, think of Tesla like Apple. If you own an Iphone 6 or 7, do you get to experience the latest technology on those devices? Absoluetly not, in fact there are some applications that you want to use but can't due to the IOS not being compatible on older devices. Now I am not an expert, but I think your car may be running an older software (although it may be the latest), and it contains an older AMD chip. Something to think about.

Sorry bud to break that news to you but since the M3 (2017/2018) Tesla has stopped considering MS and MX…this started with the software design langue (UI) that changed and become very M3/MY like… Then a series of features started either become delayed for MS/MX, if not missing (never deployed) despite the same f$$&@ hardware and the premium price we paid for those cars! Those blind spot cam is a good example! Anyways, It is a fact not only they disregard those cars but they want you to pay for a new car so no chance you will get anything! Just look at how they treat the newest MS/MX! Those are missing out on features compared to the cheapest cars! Even worse they don’t even bother finishing the software design for those “new” 2021 MS and MX: on the instrument cluster they don’t put any app on the left side (like for the legacy)!!!! Why is that you pay more for more HW and still the SW is not optimized! Why? Because M3MY don’t have that screen so why bother…ridiculous! So these days I am looking at Rivian gen 2…fed up with Tesla getting our $100k + money like mocking those MS/MX owners! Not with my money anymore!

Sorry to bug you - is that MCU2 on your car? I've got a 2018 S75D but it's MCU1 - from what I gather I need to do the MCU2 upgrade to get the side blind spot cameras on the display? Or do I just need to do all the software upgrades available 😅

Tesla Insurance never worked for me. My biggest problem is the false forward collision warning I constantly got. My premium went from $200 to $300 $400 within 3 months. The system is flawed and needs a lot of work. You shouldn't be purposely driving your car just to get safety score back up...that is sad.

UPDATE: UA-cam Music is glitchy. Often getting playback errors on songs. Apparently there is an issue with liked songs in YT being different than ones liked in YT music. And the playlists are paginated, and you cant sort them by artist anywhere! Google Play Music was great, but UA-cam music is still not good enough IMO even all these years later I'm back to using USB. It turns out, once you get in the car it will say "loading error" but all you have to do is tap the album art and it will resume playback!

Isn’t it frustrating to be on 12.3.6 while having HW3 when everyone else is already on 12.5… come on Tesla!

Great video! Have a look at the Philippines, especially the SRRV visa. Way less issues for someone like you and you will have a visa for life. It is now available for 50+ year old but soon will be available for 45+.

Great video. Just recently my car updated and have the FSD (Supervised). I was under the impression I needed to first upgrade to MCU2 or replace the main screen to get the Supervised update. It is a whole new vibe. Loving it so far.

I've got a 2017 X with enhanced autopilot and I've considered upgrading to fsd. It would cost me $3k for fsd hardware and software plus another $2k for the MCU upgrade. Curious if you think it's worth the upgrade given the uncertainty of fsd for legacy cars in the future.

FYI, O'Reilly sells the exact filter made by WIX (WP10300), which is what was needed but not provided by Tesla in the video. WIX even includes the instructions with illustration 🙂 It's not as easy as most cabin filters to replace, but if you have a T20 torx "screwdriver", or use a 1/4" drive T20 bit with an extension and a plastic pry tool (as seen in the video), it takes about 20 minutes. I suspect that if you do this twice you would pay for any tool you had to buy with the savings.

Dan, I totally agree with your observation of the roll-out for the various versions of FSD Software. It took months for me just to receive Supervised Full Self Driving and I have a 2019 with Enhanced Autopilot. There is obviously a pecking order which includes high volume video content developers versus as you called it “Average Joe’s”. I don’t know the fix but I believe there is value that Tesla can realize from the input of all who has invested in the FSD Software. Thanks for your content….!

Without manual transaction entry, Personal Finance is not a proper replacement for Microsoft Money or Quicken. It's totally different software for different use cases. What most people who miss Microsoft Money need is basically something called "balancing your checkbook," something Gen Z or even millennials are not even familiar with. It's the idea that you create all your transactions manually and then compare them against the "official" monthly statement when it comes out. It boggles my mind that there is no proper software for that that doesn't look like it was designed in 1992.

The real problem is the income side because no income means no outcomes regardless of what else is done period!!!! Cutting expenses does not help with no income!!!

Microsoft Money getting EOF was horrible. Quicken is garbage. It isn’t smart enough to match some transactions properly and occasionally corrupts my data and I have to go back and restore and start over several weeks.

Tesla Service is terrible now. Use to be decent, but does not make them money so they don't care. Be prepared to fix your car yourself. Buy a set of trim tools if you buy a Tesla.
