Join me on FOPY'sFrance and see how my husband Duncan & I live here.
We came to France from the S E of England, this can sometimes be obvious when I talk, LOL!
FOPY comes from the first 2 letters of our surnames - FOXON - PYKE 😊🤗💖
Shopping, the walks & the sights. I will take you to many of our beautiful little villages and larger towns local to us.
See our house and garden and see how it changes through the seasons.
Duncan works here as an electrician but I am now retired but I still need to prepare our Gite, as and when we get bookings.
Curious about how we live here? - just ask! We have lots of friends here both French & English.

Our garden in November, come with us. Checking the garden post snow storm. OUR FRENCH LIFE

Winter is here again and it has started with a bang so to speak. We had a snow storm this year, we haven't had proper snow for years!
While it is lovely to look at it can be pretty destructive. We decided it was time to check our garden for any possible damage.
Watch and see what we discover.

What's happening to our garage? OUR FRENCH LIFE
Hi, don't know if that's a white fig tree or black figs, but for the white fig tree our Italian neighbors would wrap the tree in canvas every winter because they said a really cold winter could kill it. I don't know at what age they started covering the tree because by the time I moved next door to them the tree was already young but tall and healthy. It gave delicious white figs for many years (which I also got to enjoy) but I would say it lived for about 25 years till it finally died. The doctor next door to them, who never took care of his black fig tree and didn't care if we collected the figs when they were ripe, got to enjoy his tree a lot longer because I think the dark figs are a heartier type which aren't as delicate as the white ones, the flavors are very different but both are delicious. You should check and see if your tree needs protection from cold weather. I think there's nothing like growing your own food and enjoying the great flavors of everything that you grow yourself in the garden!
Thanks, we did check and it said it was ok down to -18 or something, which is very low for here. 🤷♂️ We'll see in the new year what it's up to. Take care and Happy Christmas 🎄🎁
Your garden is lovely, even at the end of November. There is so much promise and potential. I look forward to spring.
I'm a huge salmon fan, too. The apartment looks great for a getaway stay.
Hard to resist whenever it's on the menu Kelly 😋
A rare occasion to actually be the other side of the lens. I enjoyed helping Janet with her UA-cam channel and pod. Surprised I could remember all the trails and tribulations of life in France. There we're many more, people have no idea. We came, we saw, we still haven't conquered yet.. life goes on in France.
WOW! What a fascinating place! It took me a minute to figure out what I was looking at, but fortunately, there were enough written explanations to help. The gardens were quirky. The rock house interiors, buildings, and farm machinery were incredible! The museum was a tiny, perfect time capsule, an island ecosystem, and a piece of cultural archaeology. There were so many historic handmade treasures! I loved the verses! Thanks, Jan and Duncan! Living museums are the best way to experience ethnography.
It was a fascinating place Renée 😊 Glad you enjoyed it too!❤
Hang in there! What we do without you and Sharon? 😊
😊❤
You two make me laugh ,at the beginning was so comical , Jan I had Salmon tonight just love it and always cheap at Christmas time , hope all went well at Hospital for Sharon .Merry Christmas to you Both and Duncan and look forward to your sewing videos in 2025 🌲🎉🎊🍾🥂
Thanks Tina ❤ Sharon has some follow ups but is well otherwise. Merry Christmas to you and yours. 🎉🎄
Those stairs are terrifying love listening ladies
thanks Sylvia ❤️
Thanks, Jan and Sharon. Great chatty video. I love the photos at the end! Angers is one of my favourite cities. Did you visit the Chateau?
We had planned on maybe visiting the chateau but decided to go straight home as it was a very cold day! 😊
SNOW!?! It was pretty to look at but I do hope it melted!
Yes it was there for two or three days .😊
Yikes, I skimmed the title of the video and freaked! LOL! I hope everyone is healthy. ...time to watch the entire video! (Beautiful sweaters/jumpers)
Yes, thankfully it wasn't as feared but monitoring is needed for a while. Thanks for watching Renée ❤
Thanks for your concern Renee!
Thanks for taking us on the road trip. There certainly was a lot to see, and the caves were spectacular! I love the 'local' perspective on the area's history. Thanks, Jan!
You're welcome Renée ❤
Like the garden changes. ❤
Thanks Kelly ❤
I watch the Pethericks regularly but must have missed the 'Duncan episode'. Jan, the garden is lovely and evolving into a magnificent space! All your hard work is paying off. It is cold, rainy, and miserable here, so a nice video dose of summer is exactly what I need! Thanks! I enjoy the 'day in the life' vlogs. There is a bit of everything. Thanks Jan.
There isn't just one Duncan episode, he is often in them. Thanks Renée ❤
I was wondering if you gave up on doing interviews with British people who moved to France? I thought that it was a very interesting part of this channel and I haven't seen any interviews here in a long time.
Hi, My interviews were never a permanent thing but I would like to do a few more. It isn't easy finding people that are willing to be on camera and I don't want people labelling me as 'that Jan who pesters' 😂 😊
Oh boy, that camera is awfully shaky, can't it be placed on a tripod while you speak to your audience?
Filming on the go is not always easy. If I remember correctly, that day it was one of those last minute decisions and so I just took out my phone and filmed an update so to speak. It's not always easy to film on the go and a tripod, for me, doesn't help to show things close up. I don't have a camera man like some UA-camrs. ❤
Ever since covid I’ve been listening to books instead of reading. I really like it and enjoy some of the narrators very much.
The wrong narrator can really spoil the enjoyment of the book.
And the narrow streets through villages reminds me of Ireland
I'd imagine so 😊 I've never been to Ireland 😢
Roads remind me of highway 1 on the coast here. Sheesh.
What country is this?
Crete Beth 😊
@@FOPYSFrance I have never heard of this country.
Has Duncan ever lived in Perth, Western Australia? He looks very familar.
Hi, No, UK Canada & France 🙂
@@FOPYSFrance Thank you. He looks like an electrician who used to come in to a supermarket I worked in.
Must be his doppelganger 😂
@@FOPYSFrance Very much so. Same name as well.
😱
My kinder video, what a lot of good crafts, I wish I was there selling but I would need a lot of kids lol .I don't know why you don't sell at craft show great fun thanks for sharing loved it xx
Glad you enjoyed it Tina❤😊
Absolutely wonderful!
Thanks Betsy❤
You guys are so adventurous! I can't imagine driving on any of the narrow single-track roads in Europe! Vehicles are parked willy-nilly on both sides of the street. People and animals cross randomly! Yikes! The village was very pretty and artsy. Thanks for the tour!
They are the roads you find the best treasures Renée 😊 We are also used to those narrow roads, they're OK until a truck comes the other way 😂 ❤
Another great and funny podcast, I've not been getting the notifications from you so I have a bit to catch up on , xx
Hi Tina, Thank you ❤ Are you saying my vlogs aren't coming up in 'recommended?' Have you clicked on the little bell? I'm just curious, I can't help but worry that UA-cam are neglecting to inform you.
@FOPYSFrance yes I have clicked on the bell, mind you I have been ill for about 3 weeks so just might have missed them xx
@@tinastock8540 Hope you are better now?
@@FOPYSFrance yes I'm better that bloody flu going about thank you xx
Thanks, Jan!
😘👍
What an amazing country craft fair! There is nothing comparable in North America. People are just so creative! Such simple beauty and not a battery or digital remote in sight! Thanks Jan & Duncan!
I just found this channel and was surprised to see Duncan! How lovely to meet you two here. Im a long time Petherick follower.
Bienvenue! ❤️
Beautiful day out for the two of you. Such an enjoyable video. Thank you.
Thanks for watching Kelly ❤
Wow! Wow! Wow! I will watch, rewatch, pause to examine, read, and research many of this video's treasures! I love the goddess figurines and all the household stuff! Thank you Jan!!!
We thought you might enjoy that one Renée ❤😊
What a beautiful walk! The village houses are lovely. The 'gallery/museum' was awesome. The crooked picture frames really drew attention to the highlights and interactive features! I just love all the stonework. The old millstone was impressive! (I don't know what to call 'fruit squishers' called in any language) LOL! The historical physick, kitchen, teaching, and flower gardens were amazing. Every modern house should have a scaled-down version of this garden design. (Survival, abundance & aesthetics) There is so much to see and to explore! WOW! A castle with a moat! The location is beautifully maintained! The entire area is worthy of several visits and vlogs! It's made my bucket list that's for sure! Jan and Sharon, THANK YOU!!!! Best 'walk' ever!!!
Hi Renée, It must of been my 4th visit and I still saw new bits ( to me) It was a shame we weren't chucked out due to much time but....... ❤️
Terrific video!
Lovely walk -inspiration for me to get moving! Thanks for the video.
Walking is always a joy, especially if you find something to see or somewhere new to visit. Thanks for watching ❤️
1! Wow!😁 Really beautiful! Enjoy your channel!❤️
Glad you enjoy it Rosemary ❤️ Thank you! 😘
What a beautiful little resort village! I love all the sailboats! Thanks Jan & Duncan.
Hi Renée, it was so cute! Wish we were there now, we currently have snow! 🥶
Hey, those blonde dudes messing with garden statues that is a crime! Omg Sharon. Your dreams are bizarre. 😂
😂❤
Sharon had me laughing with her dreams. I live in the US and I feel like moving to the moon or anywhere else for 4 years.
Thanks Jan and Sharon! Great chat as usual! I hope you enjoyed your soup!
hmmmm......I call a jug, un pichet/un pot or une carafe in French.
So would I, that's Google translate for you. 😊
@@FOPYSFrance I have never ever used the word 'cruche'.
I stream the French TV medical drama called 'Hippocrate'. It is not a reality show but the series is binge-worthy!!
Oooo we'll have to look for that! 😊
Wow. I watch Holly too. (I even have the cookbook). The narrowboat is moored at Bollington Wharf.
Soup night at the pub! The French are so civilised! Butter and cheese are interchangeable bread toppings in most places.
Jan, the interior of your house is so beautiful!
Thanks Renée ❤
Lovely village. Loved all the beautiful flowers everywhere. Yes, I Very much appreciate seeing it!❤😂
Another fabulous vlog. Thank you. Crete is now on my bucket list. 😊
Hi Lynne, by the time you've seen all my vlogs you'll be booking your trip. You'll love it! ❤
Wow! Saint-Cénéri-le-Gérei really is a picturesque village! Everything is so creative! Even the stations of the cross inside the church, the colour of the stones, the wall paintings, the flowers, and the greenery that border the streets and cottages create an artsy atmosphere. I'd love to see the interior of some of the houses! I'm not interested in buying a restaurant but the houses might tempt me! The chapel windows were delightful! I love the bridge! I hope you didn't touch the Staghorn Sumac! It's an excellent medicinal plant that smells nice but it is in the same family as poison ivy so it can be a nasty skin irritant! Beautiful video! Thanks Jan and Sharon. Gee, I wish it was summer!
The Retro decor in the coffee shop cracked me up because I didn't even notice the vintage vibes until you pointed it out and I read the text on the screen. LOL! (I still have a transistor clock radio and an old-fashioned rotary dial landline telephone). The bricked streets bordered by funky little shops, stalls, bakeries, and patio restaurants give Heraklion the feel of a Turkish market bazaar. There was everything from touristy souvenirs to upscale boutiques! (too bad about the graffiti but the murals were beautiful). The building with all the differently shaped windows was spectacular. What a unique architectural fusion! Were there any coins in the fountain or is that tradition too superstitious for modern Greece? Thanks Jan & Duncan! Lovely photos! I'm so happy you shared them,
Hi Renée, Sounds like you enjoyed it as much as we did. There weren't any coins in the fountain, we did wonder about that.❤
I watched the video and attached the usual running commentary shortly after you uploaded it. Then my hydro went out (again)-no electricity, no internet. It is winter on the island. That means torrential rains, high winds, warm temperatures, and regular power outages. I will happily watch it again and dream of summer anywhere in France and add 2 more cents.! LOL!
Oh bless you! What a nightmare! It is the same village we visited with Duncan's parents but we saw it from a different angle so to speak. We couldnt walk as far with his parents. Thanks Renée ❤
Very pretty ❤
Lovely village. Thank you for sharing.
You are welcome Lynne ❤
