Outward Definitive Edition: The Polarizing Souls-Like Survival Game
Outward is an extremely challenging "souls-like" rpg survival game. It has a tendency to be either hated or loved by those who give it a try. Truly a diamond in the rough. It has extremely innovative and unique mechanics that can get lost in the rough edges of the game.

Baldur's Gate 3 Retrospective | A Fantastic Journey to a Mediocre Destination
Переглядів 10 тис.10 місяців тому
Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the most enjoyable games i've ever played. I decided to take notes and analyze what makes it great and it's short comings. I know there has been some patches, hotfixes and updates since launch. So maybe some graphically issues I had will no longer be present. At the end the script for this video essay ended up being 38 pages long and over 25k words. This video took an ...

    I've got the platinum for this game, and own it on two different platforms, so let me say, this game is nothing like skyrim, why compare the two?

    I didn’t like class combos. Not a single class felt interesting enough on their own, and mixing them together created even worse feeling. Bunch of classes force you to equip specific items in left hand, limiting what you can combine without annoyance, class fantasy overall feels weak, and spread too thin. 2 whole abilities after a breakthrough? Twenty different mage classes, but merc and wild hunter have ranged skills crammed alongside melee skills in one tree, meaning that you don’t even have a choice what ability to pick. Good fantasy survival game, atrocious rpg.

    I mean after bug fixes KCD released almost 10 years after skyrim. Of course comparing them head to head KCD will look better in a lot of ways. Skyrim was revolutionary, but it was a ps3 game, we are now 2 gens ahead in hardware.

    KCD is what a western RPG should look like. Is it perfect? Hell no. Is it fuckin' fun? Hell yes. As much as I love Skyrim, KCD takes the cake in just about everything aspect I can think of.

    KCD and Skyrim are a demonstration of Newton's Third Law. KCD has brilliant writing, excellent worldbuilding, and a true masterpiece of an open world, but mechanically, unless you have a lot of time on your hands or a bit of a masochistic streak, you'll bounce off it. Skyrim, meanwhile, has laughably bad writing, a cookie-cutter typical open world of repetitive grind, and any lore that's any good is left over from Daggerfall and Morrowind, back when Bethesda had better writers. But mechanically? Dear gods, is it ever a ton of fun. Even for the most casual player, it just feels natural and accessible and lends itself to extended play sessions.

    7 dollars for the complete game should be reason enough... also the sequel begins where this one ends....so play it now and by the time u finish... the second will be in stores. Though may want to give the sequel time to be patched.

    Imo it's not even a fair comparison. Skyrim was heavily overhyped even in 2011, most people can't even enjoy it without dozens of mods. KCD is everything every RPG of the last decade wanted to be, but didn't have the balls to pull off. Best RPG I ever played, hands down

    Not trying to be negative, I do enjoy the video and how much effort you put in but....how can you do a retrospective of a game that you missed literally most of the other important chars and their entire stories and call it mediocre? Im just very confused that you have 1 playthrough, missed SO MUCH stuff.

    This is not a souls like. Don't know what sort of drugs are these souls like fans are on half the time but this is NOT a souls like. Secondly, I think the game is interesting concept that if done right can be appreciated by everyone. I hope the part 2 takes that into consideration.

    I was having a really shity day, went back to the mill to sleep where i thought i had a bed, but i'd paid the miller or something, then got woken up after a couple hours with the miller going mental and he kicked me out of the house. Insult to injury, Teresa blanked me and went to bed upstairs. fml

    The quality of life mechanics are horrific in this game. 😊 The lockpicking.. oh my God the lock picking.. cut my arm off and beat me over the head with it! After 30 hours I still struggle going through the menus and finding objectives. That's what turned me off. And I'm a souls player! I just believe this game is too dated and too janky.. I think part two fixes a lot of these things. Because developers had no problem mentioning the quality of life mechanic upgrades.

    I found that when lockpicking if you go ahead of the sweetspot it often results in a fail. But if you get slightly behind the sweetspot it doesn't fail you as quickly. So the most efficient way to lockpick is trying to avoid getting ahead of the sweetspot. (Ahead and behind relative to the rotation of the lock)

    My only gripe with this game is enemies performing master strikes. It is skill based for the player and requires good timing. An enemy, no matter how realistic the game feels, is a robot. You give the player all these cool feints and combos but the second you attack an enemy late game they just master strike and punish. By the end of the game you end up just sitting there waiting for them to attack so you can master strike and thats honestly extremely boring and a shame. When you are riposting over and over until somebody gets a hit it feels like a real swordfight but when you're just staring at them waiting for a swing fights feel like a chore.

    Skyrim is much more user friendly. Additionally, Todd Howard gave a very useful tool for the gamers: the Creation Kit. With this powerful tool you can customize your games exactly how do you want. In KCD, a lot of things were screwed up. Archery and Maintenance in KCD is almost totally useless, lockpicking sucks (you aren't able to open a chest at very hard level unless you robe the whole country and many times the bandits have not the keys for their own chests) and so on. KCD is good but not better than Skyrim.

    • @andriyshepard3095
      @andriyshepard3095 Місяць тому

      archery is not useless, but it requires skill, which you obviously lack. Lockpicking is good, but again you need to learn it. In short, all of your mentioned ''cons'', are just your lack of skill lmao.

    • @BatmanClassics1966
      @BatmanClassics1966 Місяць тому

      @@andriyshepard3095 you didn't listen to me my dude. You did not only need your in-game skills for using this fucked archery skill in this game but you need to have some sense too.Without a crosshair or just a single dot it's pretty shitty to use a bow - at least, for me. By the way, a really good RPG game's point is that you have more than one ways and you can choose your own way freely without any problem. In KCD, I think this kind of "freedom" is strongly restricted. When you kill some bandits and they have some closed chests then you should guess that they have some keys to these chests so after you killed and looted them then you should be able to open these chests without any problems. In KCD, chests of bandits can't be opened without lockpicking. In Skyrim, you can kill bandits or you can steal their keys and now you can get the loot of their chests, got it?
