Winter Wild Camping in Snowdonia
A Winter wild camp in Snowdonia!
UK wild camping can be unpredictable so it is important to take the right gear, It is better to have and not need than need and not have!
We set out to the camp spot (Ffynnon Lloer) with a plan to summit Pen yr Ole Wen. when we got to the site we saw the weather was pretty poor up on the summit. However, we were early and had many hours to kill before sunset. We had ice axes to hand and made the ascent.
Overall the trip was a brilliant experience, with sunrises, snow and wind.
Wales is an amazing place to camp, although technically not allowed under wild camping laws if you are respectful, leave no trace and are high above the roads and streets you should have no problem.
Snowdonia is large and remote camping is a good way to get the best views around!

Group Winter Wild Camping in the Lake District
Переглядів 1,6 тис.11 місяців тому
This week, myself and 4 friends went group wild camping in the lake district. Three of the group are new to wild camping and have never been before so it was a baptism of fire with the 60mph Gusts! When you have never been wild camping before, going with people who have is a great way to get started as most people don't know where to wild camp. Wild camping as a group is possible but you need t...

Today's solo wild camp was in the Peak District - Bleaklow The second Video is here! This weekend I ventured into the peak district for a chilly solo camp. I was expecting the weather to be around -5c. The temperature dropped to around -8c at night and with 30mph gusts the wind chill was around -17c! This was a great test for my gear as well as a good learning experience in warmth management. O...

This is my first solo wilc camping video, I delve into the Lake district in the middle of a winter rainstorm. Everytime I camp. Good video, thanks. I personally watch these type of videos for inspiration of where to go camping. Need to get over Wales next year as we spend most of our time in The Lakes 🙂
just came across this, loved it, great vid. ..there's something about Bleaklow you can't articulate, especially in winter, but you captured it perfectly

Rough looking night chap
It was quite mild to be honest, was nice and cosy!
As a full time worker and part time carer i can personally vouch for the "wild camping films you and your peers produce ! I often walk into the room to find old folk with horrendous short term memory who used to go family camping sat there watching with the biggest happy face watching films like yous make 🫵👍🏼. Never underestimate the power of sharing, filming your trips 🙏🙏🫵👍🏼😁
I never really expected to receive a comment like this, it’s really heartwarming to hear that thank you very much. It gives me much more motivation to carry on producing videos. Thank you ❤️
Great vid mate. Just come across your channel and subbed. Enjoyed that. Great conditions for the mountains. Nice area round there. Keep em coming mate 👍🏼 ATB. Craig

Top video mate, subscribed. New to UA-cam too! 😊
Cheers mate, appreciate that!
New subscriber, just found your channel on my feed so i am looking forward to following your adventures because anything to do with Camping and hiking trumps BS Propaganda that is plentiful elsewhere :)The most likely reason you are getting cold spots will be because you have to be careful when turning around inside down bags because the warm lofted down will get compressed and depending on the type of bag it can even slip inside the baffles. With this in mind you can get bags where you can move the down around inside the baffles and put it where you need it the most. I have a Thermarest Quasar which has less filling on the base and more on the top and also a Cumulus Panyam that has a 65% top fill and 35% bottom fill. You can also stuff any cold spots with your down jacket or down trousers which is very effective providing you have enough room. In my opinion Merino wool is massively overrated just like Goretex is and it's worth exploring different materials for base layers both for sleeping and when you are on the move. I would recommend either Senchi, OMM Core and Mountain Hardware hoodies which are synthetic and work really well and if you do get them damp through sweating they dry out really quickly but still keep you warm when wet . I spent over 100 quid on a merino top and its the worst base layer i have ever used and other people say the same.
Wow! Thanks for subscribing! I will take a look into those merino alternatives, that’s a great shout because I agree about goretex, it’s so overhyped! I found out the reason I had cold spots too, my mat is a down mat (Exped Dura 8R) and I did not realise the extra steps in setup ( shaking and patting down) so the down was not evenly distributed in the mat. I found a forum online that explained this and shining a bright torch through the mat revealed it! I’m going to spend a few days in the garden camping, testing sleepwear so thank you for this it’s really helpful!
I had the Down Mat and i also had the Synmat 5R and to me they felt about the same s i sold the Down mat but for the past couple of months i have used the Tensor Extreme conditions and its become my favourite mat of all time, even better than the XTherm and it packs and weighs less than most mats too so there is nothing to not like :) I had the same issue as you had with your Down Mat with the Thermarest Xlite where i could see right through it in various patches where the insulating layer had failed. The trails and errors we put ourselves through hey :)@@PaddyDouglasCamping
Great vid mate, i've just started making vids too. Maybe we could do a collab!
Ah Thanks mate! I’ll check your videos out, if you follow my instagram Paddydouglascamping you can message me on there 😄

Great video! New subscriber! I camped on Kinder on Sunday night. Long cold night but worth it for the sunrise on Monday morning.
That’s when this was! Unbelievably clear wasn’t it! Cheers for that mate means a lot!
@@PaddyDouglasCamping I had a feeling it might be the same morning. You are so right about the camera not doing it justice. It was an incredible morning. Interesting what you've said about Merino clothing. I do get that same issue myself especially my feet and toes as I wear merino socks overnight. I too had issues with the phone just cutting out in the cold. Brilliant seeing someone else have such a similar experience on the same morning on the next hill.
@@jamiebassnett I never really got round to answering if my loose clothes worked in the video but they did! Felt much better. Im after some of those down Rab socks because I have the same issue with my feet. You’re right it’s absolutely fascinating to have had such a similar experience!!
Cracking watch keep it up 👍
Thank you so much, I’ve loved making both videos so far
@PaddyDouglasCamping thats all that matters mate. Enjoying the process dont overthink it or you end up in a rabbit hole
@@MarkventuresNE I don’t want to get caught up in trying to get loads of views or over editing, I think there is a charm to videos that are more ‘raw’ just like wild camping is, if you know what I mean
@PaddyDouglasCamping I know exactly what you mean mate 👍
This is a beautiful video, such a unique atmosphere. Everything here is done masterfully.
Another quality video brother alot more natural this week!! Keep them coming my man!
Thanks mate! Felt much more natural second time around 😁
Great video mate. Well done for starting a UA-cam channel. Just one thing I think the top bar on your northern light is upside down. It should run on top of the main pole. I did the same thing too with my panacea. 😊👍
You know what, someone mentioned that weeks ago to me and every single time I pitch the tent I forget! Thanks for the kind words!
@@PaddyDouglasCamping no worry’s mate. I did the same thing. Keep the videos coming. 👍
It was a good video! Was it warm in your tent?
Thank you! Yes it was toasty in the tent, the weather only dropped to about 4/5 degrees C and I had my winter sleeping bag with me :)
I enjoyed your video. Very REAL. You can NEVER be to careful about carbon monoxide. Well done
True! Thanks for such a positive comment
Keep it up fella, great watch!
Thank you! Really appreciate the comment
Good vid 👍🌠
Enjoyed your video ❤
Thank you!
Great video this i really enjoyed watching it
Really appreciate that! Thank you
Good video! Is that a wild country 1 or 2?
Thank you! The future ones will be much better now I know what I’m doing. The tent is the Terra Nova Northern Lite 2 😁
