Frauke Mekelburg (b. 1969): Danza del corno
Переглядів 512 години тому
Frauke Mekelburg is a contemporary German organist who was born in Eisenach, Thuringia, 286 years after JS Bach. She has written a "Zelenka Suite" in 2003, of which the "Danza del corno" is the movement No. 4. All parts are based on themes by the Baroque composer Jan Dismas Zelenka, mainly from his orchestral pieces. Zelenka is always unique and fun, and so is this little organ suite. Instrumen...
Johann Krieger (1651 - 1735): Fuga aus C (Thema I)
Переглядів 2364 години тому
Krieger, the Baroque master from Nuremberg who worked most of his life in Zittau, Saxony, wrote a number of interesting pieces. This fugue in C major is the first fugue of five, where the first four pieces process a different theme each, and where the fifth fugue combines them all into one work. This fugue on the first theme is No. XI from Krieger's "Anmuthige Clavier Übung" from 1699. It is p...

This is one of the smaller fugues by the Gotha master, in the key of c minor. It is marked Allegro moderato. In the source of this piece, (No. 15 in the collection "Postludien-Buch 100 Tonstücke aller Art für die Orgel" edited by Hermann Kleemeyer (available on the IMSLP website)), it is also labeled "Volles Werk" (full organ). Instrument: Johannus Live III, sample: Silbermann - Dresden.

Ett was musician and organist in Bavaria during the first half of the 19th century. He was born in Eresing in Upper Bavaria, and lived and died in Munich. Aside from musical practice, he also was a teacher (including to King Maximilian II. of Bavaria) and an editor. This prelude in c minor offers some remarkable chromatic harmonies. This is one of the few preludes preserved from Düben, who was born in Leipzig and worked at the Swedish court. Despite its title, it is actually written in a minor throughout. As many pieces from the earlier Baroque era, the harmonic impression can be enhanced when played in a meantone temperament, as done here. I had posted the piece once before on this channel, as a different recording on ano...

This is a smaller piece in a minor by the Darmstadt master that is entitled Moderato. It is No. 92 in the collection "Postludien-Buch 100 Tonstücke aller Art für die Orgel" edited by Hermann Kleemeyer (available on the IMSLP website). A short composition, but pleasant as usual for a Rinck piece, and substantial enough to handle the big guns. Instrument: Johannus Live III, sample: Sauer - Leipzig.

Here is a prelude in B flat major by the Baroque Thuringian master. It is a part of his "Partie ex B", where he combined a few pieces by himself with some of other composers, a practice not that uncommon in that era. This prelude, however, was written by him. Thanks for your concern, but don't you worry! All one needs to do is dress up warm, pick pieces with elaborate pedal parts or a heart-warming theme, and then play without mistakes so the video taping is short while the noisy air heating is off! 😀🧤 Too bad that it usually does not really work that way, but it is still better than playing in an unheated church... ❄☃ I hope that you can still enjoy what you hear (and see).

    I must ask... How does one go about acquiring a home pipe organ..?

    • @Laienhausmusikerbaulichkeit
      @Laienhausmusikerbaulichkeit 3 дні тому

      For a real pipe organ in your home, I recommend that you start with winning the lottery jackpot. For a digital instrument like this one, there are several companies with numerous and more affordable home instrument models. This one is a Johannus Live III, and you can obtain more information on its size and sample options on the Johannus website. The unit on top with a faux pipe facade is custom-made, just for looks, and does not contribute to the sound. However, we like the appearance and enjoy the music and its esthetic perception that can be generated with this setup. Thank you for your interest!

    I don’t have anything against Protestants. I think that years of hate are all gone. I just envy these great composers who wrote this kind of music with colourful registers and independent pedal. Meanwhile we had the short octave and pedal mostly with two registers.

    • @Laienhausmusikerbaulichkeit
      @Laienhausmusikerbaulichkeit 6 днів тому

      It is clear that polyphonic organ play advanced significantly during the early Baroque in Protestant areas such as Northern Germany and the Netherlands, but an important reason was also the relative wealth of the towns within the Hanseatic League, as it was rather pricey to build bigger organs with full pedals, 16' and then even 32' stops and all kinds of novel registers. But one should be happy over those developments, as it paved a path for greater instruments everywhere, and spawned continued elevation of organ music culture in many other regions, too.

      This is quite an interesting piece, many thanks. I personally have become so comfortable playing with socks, that I would now only do it that way. I would pick to play in public because I don’t have really good experience with recordings. We had to record during Covid and I just hate it, because every time I played something wrong I started again and ended up recording few minutes of music sometimes for more than hour.

      Es ist ein toller Satz, keine Frage. Die verzierte Melodie über der schreitenden Begleitung mit anspruchsvoller harmonischer Progression: das ist ähnlich wie in der Air aus der dritten Orchestersuite, trotz der Moll-Tonalität. Haha, you fell for the appearance of this quite nicely built instrument. All pipes in the front are not speaking pipes, they are for decoration only. All sound is generated by computer samples, amplifiers and speakers. The sound is the most important part here, but the pipes visually enhance the overall impression of a real pipe organ.... I hope you can now still enjoy some pieces played on this instrument!

      Ja, das bezog sich auf die Aufnahmes dieses Noels im letzten Jahr. Das Instrument funktioniert immer noch nicht wieder voll, ich habe Zugang zu entweder dem Pedal oder dem Schwellwerk, aber nicht zu beiden. Man macht das beste daraus, d.h. es ist wie eine zweimanualige Orgel, aber die grösseren Stücke von Buxtehude, Bruhns oder Lübeck sind somit eben nicht so gut machbar; ich hoffe, dass sich das endlich bald korrigieren lässt. You put a lot of thought into this, as your detailed comments show. The intriguing aspect to me is, that even relatively "simple" music can generate plenty of associations and sentiments, and they may differ between individuals; it may evoke beauty, esthetics, faith, spirituality and much more, there is no right or wrong. Almost always is it positive, corroborating, edifying. Therefore, don't be dismayed by a wrong note (although we all are and we all have more of them than we care for), what really counts instead is that the music is being generated and allows every listener to respond. Only a fool should remark on one incorrect note (I firmly hope!). Thanks to you for sharing your thoughts.

      @andrejjan2240 There are many ways to create in introduction of a hort prelude to a song; building a chord and creating a small cadence is a good start. You could also take part of the melody alone, and then add the other voices up to a cadence, best to the tonic; this allows you to then play the complete chorale for singing. Good luck!

      In theory yes, for instance for 4-voice settings of chorals. Sometimes the score leaves it open, so for some fugues or preludes written before 1730, so one has to decide; they are often completely playable on manuals only, but using the pedal for some lower passages will increase the sound effect and depth. If a lower passage asks for virtuoso play, one may have to reconsider.... For most newer organ pieces, the pedal use is usually specified in the score.
