Anyone who thinks of Haydn as being a bit of a workaday composer should listen to this fantastic and original trio! Great playing too - in the finale when Haydn says Presto he really means it and they play it up to tempo and really together.

Shubert is highly under rated, I believe he is one of are truly great composers of piano trios. His variation are magical.

I first heard this on WQXR about 12 years ago, tuning in just as that snatch of a Chasidic melody playing on the cello (about 9:14 in this recording.) This is a superb, fun, toe-tapping composition, thoroughly enjoyable. Lively performance! As an aside, only the cellist looked like she was having fun. The other two were working kinda hard.
