How did you pass the cables through your tour pack? Just got a BMW K1300GT and am finally going to give it a go. I'm just hesitant to drill holes in my side cases, less so for the Givi trunk. Considering building the radio body into a harbor freight apache case to strap to the back seat.

@JudgeKW I drilled a new hole and got some rubber grommets from amazon. Working on v2 of this setup where the radio will run off a separate 12v battery and the bike will charge that battery when running.

I came to this video for antenna mount ideas. I just picked up a VGC VR-7500 and it's in my car for now, but I plan on installing it in my FJR1300 once the weather warms up a bit more. For anyone who's not familiar, this radio interfaces entirely via Bluetooth on a smartphone. Combining that with the sena unit in my helmet seems like it'll be a really good setup without much fuss. 73

I want to say I linked my SR10 to my Cardo, but I did have Sena prior will check maybe this weekend and let you know. Also there are BT units for that radio, currently I am using a FT3D to my cardo with a PPT that replaces the brake lever mount. I should have a video out in the next couple weeks on that. Thanks for the video!

My Friends and I have the Midland 75-822 CB Radio on our Motorcycles. Could not find the SENA SR10 device for sale (by SENA). So, instead had utilized a Wireless Bluetooth (BT) Adapter (HB-6A) and Wireless Remote PTT (Key) (HB-6B) units which are battery powered and USB rechargeable. $30 for the pair, plus $15 to $20 for (10 - 15 day) shipping. The Remote PTT is nice since no wiring is required. Velcro strapped (provided) to left handlebar grip; thumb activated. Red light activates on the Remote PTT Unit when PTT is active. Paired the BT Adapter with the Remote PTT unit. Then, I paired the BT Adapter with my SENA 20S EVO Helmet Headset. Works Great! Overcome the mechanical (physical) constraint (clearance issues) of mating the HB-6A Device directly to my version of Midland CB Radio, by using (making) a short straight through extension cable. There are off the shelf 2-pin molded extension cables for purchase, but a little expensive to me. Other Midland Portable/Handheld Radio models would allow for direct connection of the 2-pin BT Adapter. The BT Adapter HB-6A-I model/version purchased is for ICOM (I1 & I2) Radios. Same 2-pin 2.5mm (2-pole TS) Microphone/PTT & 3.5mm (2-pole TS) Speaker interface as the Midland 75-822 CB Radio connecters. Can pair BT Adapter to SENA Headset as a second mobile phone or as GPS. Can provide (via separate cable) USB +5Vdc power to the BT Adapter for charging while in active operation and installed on the Motorcycle. Although, the 7 to 9 hours of battery life is adequate for my daily rides. BT Adapter has a 400mAh battery life. The Remote PTT unit battery life is identified as 3-months. The HB-6A-I BT Adapter 2-pin 2.5mm to 3.5mm Center-to-Center pin spacing is 10mm. Other BT Adapter models are available for other Radios with K-Type [six signals total, 3 poles per each jack] (11mm pin spacing) and M-Type [4 signals total, 2 poles per each jack] (8mm) Center-to-Center pin spacing. The marking on the BT Adapter box received for the ICOM HB-6A-I unit is further identified as 'Model TC-IM V8'. Consider adding these identification markings as a comment as special additional instructions when ordering online. The ICOM HB-6A-I BT Adapter has 4 signals total, 2 poles per each of the two jacks/plugs. 2.5mm 2-pole TS (pin-1 MIC/PTT, pin-2 Ground) and 3.5mm 2-pole TS (pin-1 Speaker, pin-2 Ground). BT Adapter supports Advanced Bluetooth 5.2 Technology. In regards to the short extension cable mentioned previously, located an off-the-shelf cable. ICOM Right Angle Adapter Cable, 2-Pin Male to 2-Pin Female. Part Number OPC2144 (OPC-2144). 9-Inches overall length. Flexible. Right Angle end at Radio 2-pin Male end. Opposite end is straight 2-pin Female. The cable exits the Radio allowing maximum clearance for the Squelch & Volume knobs. This OPC2144 Extension Adapter cable supports 3 signals per each connector, for a total of 6 signals. The Midland 75-822 2.5mm Microphone connector supports a 2-pole TS (pin-1 MIC/PTT, pin-2 Ground) or a 3-pole TRS (pin-1 MIC/PTT, pin-2 no connect, pin-3 Ground) and the 3.5mm Speaker connector supports a 2-pole TS (pin-1 Speaker, pin-2 Ground), but also accepts a 3-pole TRS (pin-1 Speaker, pins 2 & 3 Ground). One Friend is using the SENA 30K and the other the SRL2 Headset, while I am using the SENA 20S EVO. We are using CB Radios because others we ride with have Motorcycles with built-in CB Radios from the Factory.

Nice setup and thanks for pointing us to the MARC group. You went a little different route than I'm planning for my bike, but you probably get more power and better signal. I bought 2 HT radios - depending on who I ride with. A Yaesu FT5DR and BTech GMRS-pro. Both are water resistant and have bluetooth built in. I also have a Sena that I plan to use with a PTT button that goes on the handlebar. I've tested both around the house and they work with the helmet mic. But haven't found a good mount for the radios yet. Thanks for the idea of the 1/2 wave antenna.

Additionally what I found since making this video is helmet selection is critical. If there is too much noise while mobile it will over deviate your audio. I had to change my helmet to be able to talk when over 50 mph.

I got a UV5R, but the TOT transmit off timer is max 600sec. On a busy 2560 node there's no audio pause. It just goes on. So the uv5r stops rf transmission at 10 minutes to prefent it from overheating. Dont use a HT. Get a taxi radio and set it on 1 Watt. Downside of hamvoip allstar is that u need port forwarding. With just a Echolink node u can use a proxy server. For allstar there are no proxy servers. Hamvoip does not have Raspbian desktop. Its Arch arm lite. So no screens for mobile use.

I agree a mobile radio is a better option because of rhe TOT and TX distance. I went with the HT because of cost they are cheap. As far as port forwarding it is my understanding you only need it to have incoming connections (nodes connecting to your node). I don't have port forwarding on mine and can connect to outbound but inbound connections fail which is fine with me. If I want to talk to someone else we will meet on a hub node. You can do mobile screen if you set up supermon or get really fancy with a HTML page with quick commands. Thanks for the comment that would be a good video
