@PatFiorello do you use the Murphy Oil Soap concentrated? Or diluted ? I just tried the concentrated and it sure does work...1🤔😁
@@laurafrench7315 I use the original liquid bottle that I just get at the supermarket. I also often follow that by Dawn dishwashing detergent or Jack's linseed studio soap( liquid not a bar) and you'd be surprised how much paint still comes out even after you think it's clean.
@@PatFiorello you’re right! I thought my brushes were clean until I used the Murphy and Dawn as you suggested. Valuable tip!

Is your white only white?
Don’t know exactly on this one. It’s been awhile since I painted it but in general I might flavor the whites in shite flowers with a small touch of color if I see it in the flower, possibly yellow green or a warm tone , to leave some room for a lighter white for some accents. All of the white areas would not be white straight our of the tube but some slight variations- might be warm whites and/or cool whites fo some subtle changes.
Thank you

No linseed oil?
Hi Richie, Thanks for your message. It's a good question. In my own alla prima painting I use little, if any, additives or mediums as I find generally the paints are juicy enough as they come out of the tube. I created this video as a prelude for students taking an on line course I'm offering, The course is for absolute beginners in oil paint. I wanted to keep it to the basics so as not to overwhelm or intimidate them with the complexities of the various types of mediums and how and when to use them. People can pick that up later as needed and it will not be needed for this 3 session introductory course. If you would like to learn more about mediums Gamblin has a good explanation on their website: gamblincolors.com/oil-painting/mediums/oil-painting-mediums/. All the best, Happy Painting!
Very informative..Thank you. Can't wait to see the final product.
Thanks so much! If interested, I'll be doing this in a paint along format in an upcoming Zoom workshop on 7/31: www.ilchiostro.com/workshops/online-class-painting-a-still-life-with-flowers-italian-style-oils/?workshopinfo=1

It was nice to see your paintings up close! Thanks Pat
Thank you Cindy!
I don't remember exactly, but at least overnight or maybe a 2nd day- the paint is not applied too thickly so it's not as along as a painting would be.
How long did it take for each chart to dry?
A question came up on what I am painting the charts on. I chose to use a Canva Pad so that it would be flexible and be able to be stored in a binder but you could also use Canva paper or flat panels.. All available at most art supply stores or on line. For me, I thought working on stretched canvas would be too bulky to store and I would put them away and not use them so that's why I went the pad route, but one could do stretched canvases and hang them on a wall in your studio if you had ample room.

Sorry, I had replied a month ago when you asked the question but today noticed the reply wasn't linked to your original question so not sure if you ever got it before. Hope it helps. Good luck
This was a great video and I love your blog posts that document your progress through each of the colors you use on your palette. Thank you for mentioning here that you didn't do a 50/50 mix and that it was just a bit of the other colors added to the main color. I'm trying this myself and I need to redo my first one because I did closer to a 50/50 rather that just a little bit. It was still very fun and informative. This is a great exercise to do when you want to be playing with paints but don't feel very creative. These will prove invaluable as I go forward in my painting adventures! Oh, I tried to comment over on your blog but I'm not sure that it went through (and if it did, it might have posted 3 times - it's acting wonky today).

Just released a new video about my "Forever Bouquet Paintings" for brides!
Thank you for posting. I am about to create my own color charts to get to know my colors better. A Question: When you mix the colors together with the other colors on your palette (the rows across the top), is it a 50-50 mixture across, each time? For instance, from left to right, if your main color was Cadmium Lemon on the left, moving to the right in the same row, would it then be something like 50% Cadmium Lemon, 50% Cadmium Yellow Pale, then 50% Cadmium Lemon with 50% Cadmium Yellow Deep, and so on? You know, 50% each time with the main color on the chart, for consistency?
I would not consider it a 50/50 split. You want the page to look like the hue you are mixing . In other words the cadmium yellow page should look yellow. If you go to my blog patfiorello.blogspot.com and go into the archives for July 2011, I posted each of the charts over the month. check out patfiorello.blogspot.com/2011/07/color-charts.html It's starts July 1 and then every few days I posted another chart. Can give you a much deeper explanation than the short video.Hope that helps! Here's an example of the cadmium yellow chart: patfiorello.blogspot.com/2011/07/color-charts-1-cadmium-lemon.html
Really helpful!!!! (And I can't believe nobody's posted yet. This video deserves a big round of applause!)
Thanks Susan. Please do share the word with our fellow artists.
