That just sounds crazy, hypnotic and dangerous. It actually sounds like a second part of "Der Sinn - Le Coeur Du Noyau". Only actually darker. What a board. 🤯

Analogue = headroom, clipping analogue = 3rd-order odd harmonics. Doing the same on DAW just squashes the signal into a square wave. Even though the MPC is digital the sound is being driven by the analogue outputs, or driving the inputs, of the MPC60 which, unlike later MPC's/drum machines after the 3000, are designed specifically for a drum sound (meaning dark and compressed and likely Highley overloaded) Since everyone clipped recordings back in the day for harmonic saturation this way of working was took in to consideration when designing old school samplers, they just knew people would do it. Put a 909 kick into an SP1200 and play with the pitch, it's even crazier.

I am not much into this style, but i have to say, those kicks sound AMAZING.
