I don’t think that necessarily means Sam existed. They could have had Sam wear that shirt as a small nod to 3, which would give Nate a reason to have it.

U2 & U4 is the mostly Bruce Straley & Neil Druckmann (1990s, late 2000s films inspired) modernized, Americanized, darker spin on Nate's story. There are 2 different versions of Nathan Drake. One version is U2 & U4. Examples: red or orange titles, darker filters, colors, tone, characters, etc., Thieves or Thief in the titles, militaristic, mercenary themes, hypersexualized, etc. Nate meets Chloe Fraser first in U2 in 2002 & meets Elena last in 2005 or 2006. He has a brother & daughter. His ring & him & Sully's father-son like relationship is not the focus. There are jokes, callbacks, references, homages to the other games story timeline in here & vice versa. Nate's friends are radically different from the other games. His character here is inspired by Tom Cruise (Cocktail, Mission Impossible), Ben Sanderson the miserable depressed drunk, Florentino Ariza (many flings, their journals - U2), Josh & Sam, John Connor, Gerry (Sliding Doors), Indiana Jones (Temple of Doom), Rick O' Connell (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), Matt (13 going on 30), Edward Cullen & Bella (His looks & her pursuit of him mirrors Nate's pursuit of Chloe in U2), Bill (Twister), Michael Townley/DeSanta, Ian Stone, & John McClain of "Die Hard with a Vengeance" (drunk, depressed, defeated). The other is U:DF & U3:DD. (Amy Henning, actors, others; 1980s, early 2000s films inspired; 1985, 2001, 2005). Yellow titles, Drake in the name title, old style classical action adventure. They want the dominant superiority complex. Elena to Nate in U3:DD: "Are you sure it's treasure they're after?" Nate to Sully in U3:DD: "It wasn't treasure they were after, it was power."

​@@bwdukestudios3696 the game was rushed because of the développement of the last of us You can see in the game that the last segments are very rushed and that there is a lot of foreshadowing that was supposed to reveal something and they never finished this but the foreshadowing is still in the game

Naughty Dog did 2 different versions of Nate: Bruce's Nate (U2 & U4): born 1976 in New York or New Orleans, America; has a brother & daughter; Sam has a New York accent; met Sully in 1991 in Columbia during a heist; met Elena in 2005/2006 in U2 & again a year later in U2; met Chloe in 2002; shorter at 5'11,"; Sully is 6'3."

I was talking about that theory of Sam or Nathan being in jail and the other one being free at the time, the Panamanian jail is when the two of them got arrested

@@AB-fr2ei Sorry, I meant, the Sam-in-jail theory because there is no way to know where is Sam during the Cartagena flashback, he could be in jail, in another country, in a meeting, he even could be sick in his home, we don't know, it's only "assumed" that he is in jail from that vague line Nate says to Elena.

The most straightforward answer is they hadn't made Sam yet as a character so this story didn't have him in mind when it was made.

The only reason why Sam wasn’t in uncharted 3 is because he and Nate were separate jails
