great vid. I assume this trick would work on water pumps too.
I have a 49 shoebox and my brake lights stay on with the light switch off when the light switch is pulled out or on the drivers side brake light goes off while the passenger side brake light stays on any ideas on what I should look at? Thanks
How does the bottom come out? I know the back has two bolts at the bottom but my seat bottom won't budge
Will this work on 50 Ford F1 pu?
Great information.
Do you have a catalog?
I have a very good 4 row rediator out of my 51 Ford V8 I can not use. I am in Oklahoma and will sell OBO..
Thank you great video.
I have a very good radiator for the shoebox Fords, If someone needs one reply To this....
Whenever I use a silicon gasket 'goop' I will torque the item down at about 50% of the recommended torque specs and allow the 'goop' to setup then return to finish the torque to the spec. This was, if the 'goop' had any voids, the final torquing should close the voids and avaoid potential sweating or outright leaks. Just what I do.
Great video ! Do you mind sharing what belt length you used ?😊
This is way late but could you just grind that angle off the block ?
just what we need for front leaf spring 194 lincoln continental good video-----do you sell thoes thanks we need to have at least 2inch block
we need a tall shim like the one you just drilled ---do you seal them----
Thank you for posting this video. I went to back my car out and had no brakes! It feels way better with brakes.
Will the black thermostat permatex work the same for the areas where you put the silicone?
Do you have an email I wanted to send you a pic of my 8 BA engine and ask what a certain plug is for? There is an identical one on the other side of the engine.. it may be a temperature gauge line Except my line is missing? Thanks
Flathead's Forever! 🤟😎
Shoebox Central Tech - many thanks for this video, my Grandfather taught me how to do this years ago but I forgot the procedure. This refreshed me, thank you!
Great video. My frame is different for some reason. It has diagonal cross braces like a Merc. I cant get the shaft out. it bumps into the frame. Any ideas?
Is the cross brace riveted? Sounds like you do have something odd and may have to knock out the rivets and just bolt cross brace back in. My master cylinder shaft hit the trans and would not come out, had to unbolt trans mount and slide engine/ trans over about 3/4” then it was easy. Good luck
@@harrygearhart4520 I figured it out. The outer bracket is a tube that slides through the frame. Once the pedal was off it practically fell out. Thank you
Hello. Please. You mentioned different bolts for the first cylinder ? Could you PLEASE advice sizes ? Thanks a lot !
Thank you for posting....great video.
Do u have links for bracket and alternator
shoebox Central , is the go to, for all your shoebox needs, they are so full of information and parts, !!
What size are the holes you drilled in the thermostat?
3/16"
Thanks for sharing this. I run the 180° thermostats with a new aluminum radiator and an electric puller fan. Seems to run just fine that way, summer temps don't seem to faze it at all. The 160° setup seems like it would be overwhelmed at some point on a hot humid day running at higher speeds or engine loads. When the ambient air temps get within 50 or 60 degrees of coolant temps, that's a bad spread.
Good stuff
Hey man what alternator belt are you using for a wide belt alt? I went to put mine together and the original belt is too short
I just used the one we sell here for the wide belt system.
@@shoeboxchris Is there any way you can tell me the length on it so I can make sure it's going to work for me before I order it
Nice tech video. Is it possible to visit the shop during the week?
Yes I went in anout 2 years ago and they were real helpful
7:57 The takeaway here is people are impatient and rushing the jobs. Nothing you're doing here is anything I haven't done on stat replacements for engines much newer. Same trick when I did the stat in my '85 F150's 4.9L I6, when I did the stat in my mom's '03 Explorer 4.0L. Taking one's time and doing it right keeps parts from breaking. That explorer, by the by, has a fucking PLASTIC water neck. PLASTIC. You think it's easy to crack these old 8BA water necks.....
That design must have been made be Henry Ford himself. I think he hated hydronic brakes. Lol 😝
Good tutorial, do you think the wiring portion would be the same on a 1938 flathead already convert to 12 volt?
Depends of you already had a 3 wire voltage regulator. Originally that car had a cut out on it. Still you will loop into the firewall provide power to the circuit breaker pass thru the amp meter and head back out to the starter solenoid.
@@shoeboxchris I'll have to look into what's there a bit more. Thanks!
Thank you for a great video really helpful
I LIKE THE IDEA
Can I connect this motor to a 6v generator?
No it's 12 Volt Only
I've watched the video a couple of times. I'm wondering is there any way to get more caster on these cars? Say you were running power steering and wanted better stability at highway speeds.
These cars didn't really have a caster adjustment. Only real way to get that angle you want is lower the back of the car more to get the king pin inclination to lean back.
Cool trick about the bypass holes I have a 8N Ford tractor with a flat head and I agree that it’s better to put in a 160 F rather than a 180 F especially if I am plowing in the fall and it happens to be a + 30 C day and in winter if it’s necessary for her to run a little hotter I just put a winter front over the grill and she runs nice you can see the thermostat cycle perfectly on the Temperature gauge.
great tip , thanks
Thank you for sharing all the info with everyone
Thank you
Nice very good information. Have a question though on the V8 flat head 51 what oil do you recommend. non-detergent or detergent/conventional oil. The car has the oil filter in the canister. I drained the oil it seemed like it had a little slush on the oil pan. I did put 30 w conventional oil. If the conventional/detergent oil cleans the engine, the oil filter should capture the bad juju. And I will just get the oil you recommend and a oil filter from you guy’s and I will be all set
160° even in north east winter?
It's easier to block off the grill to reduce cooling than increase cooling on a hotter stat.
Thanks for the video. I have a 2 belt system as well but the drivers side water pump pulley has a larger groove than the other water pump pulley. since i got the truck without any belts, i'm wondering how the belts go on what.a Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I just put this in my 49 Ford Tudor! Very nice easy to swap wiper motor replacement assembly! Your instructions are great thanks!
Don't put graffiti on your arms !
I’m not sure your comment about the direction of the tapered roller bearing is true. It shouldn’t grind itself apart in either direction. I actually installed mine in the opposite direction, mostly because (the way you installed it) that seam is facing up, exposing it to dirt & debris. It’s been on for years, and works great.
For once in my life I was right and Jesus was wrong. I’m going to note this and ask for special consideration when I’m judged by your father.

So does it matter or no?
Just what i needed! Very professional video as well, I appreciate that. My 49 sat on the ground for ~30 years and the bolts holding the mc to the bracket are super stuck. i may end up having to cut something to get my Mc out. : P
Is it the same for my 54' ford crestline 6-volt system? If not any suggestions thanks Dave
Really helpful video knowing what tools you will need for the job is wonderful when your working on your back
Does the 49 hood use a different hood emblem? I don't have one on mine and the hole looks ugly
49’s have letters that spell out ford, not a badge.
