El destino llama a la puerta. Y es un destino trágico. En la vida, esto nos sucede a todos, sin excepción. La V Sinfonía de Beethoven es una evocación musical de la lucha entre el hombre y el destino. Desde el golpe inicial, en el hombre comienza un proceso de dolor y desesperación que va evolucionando hacia la tristeza, la melancolía, la calma y la esperanza. En el último movimiento llega la victoria del hombre, con una emoción y un júbilo indescriptibles. Yo, particularmente, supongo que Beethoven creía en un Ente de Inteligencia y Amor supremos que de alguna manera planifica este proceso para llegar siempre, más tarde o más temprano, a un final glorioso. Por desgracia, muchas veces la vida no es eso, al menos aparentemente, y en innumerables ocasiones el trágico destino vence al hombre. El maestro alemán se suicidó poco tiempo después de esta actuación. Quizá por ello Kegel escenificó esta triste y noble derrota del hombre que no puede más. Y lo hizo maravillosamente. En mi opinión, es una obra maestra absoluta. Musicalmente es fantástica pero lo que la hace verdaderamente extraordinaria es la emoción que produce. Ni siquiera la V de Furtwängler de 1943 me llega al alma como esta. Sólo cabe decir, gracias!. Espero que el señor Kegel haya encontrado la paz en el cielo.😅

The greatest interpretation of them all. Even Furtwängler 1945 and Kleiber 1988 cannot compete. Fricsay was an ingenious interpreter.

A grand performance! I'm a real fan of Tennstedt's work. Here is another example of an orchestra being very comfortable following Tennstedt through a very intricate shaping of phrases, tempo and mood changes that few conductors even attempt. The several chamber music like moments are especially enjoyable - a tribute to the masterful quality of the various section leaders of the orchestra! One quibble: In the 1st Movement the recording seems to be way over-balanced toward the treble. A bit like the recording technology of the '40s and early '50s.

Columbia had the notion of an album of Bach music for beginner/intermediate players, using older Gould recordings and he agreed to it.

Fantastic. Was always told that Ashkenazy with Previn and the LSO was the reference recording. This performance blows it straight out of the water.

I was in the shed for this!! - I went to many BSO Tanglewood concerts in the 70s---remember it as one of the best Id ever been to-the reviews were spectacular as I recall---what a find to hear it again

A wonderful live performance, beautifully played by the LPO, with three exceptional vocalists and chorus, led by one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century. Superb.

I seem to recall that his Philharmonia Unfinished was quicker. Havn’t heard it for years though.

When I hear Kleiber conduct a piece I have not heard him do, it is as if I am hearing a piece I have never known. His ability to balance and make lines stand in relief against one another is remarkable.
