How to Fly Your Drone for Real Estate Photography!

Flying your drone for profit and real estate photography can be daunting. It's one thing to know how to fly a drone, but once you add the element of targeted outcomes and photos that people will pay you for, things are a little different. In this video I go through my personal process for shooting real estate with my drone. I have a formula that I follow for almost all my shoots with some occas...
Why Did Your Drone Crash?

Have you ever had an accident that led to your drone crashing leaving you asking "why did my drone crash?" I hope to address some of the reasons drones sometimes seem to fall out of the sky. It is very rare that the technology fails completely on its own, very often it is due to user error. However, there are situations in which technology will fail you and leave you very disappointed. Mavic Pro vs. Air 2S. INSANE DIFFERENCE

Comparing the Mavic Pro to the Air 2S with active track engaged. There’s not much to say besides the difference being obvious and astounding. DJI has come a long way over the years. How active track works is by selecting a subject and letting the drone fly itself autonomously to follow the predetermined subject. Camera quality of the Air 2S is unbelievable.

    My only comment is about your final photos. You seem to be using some HDR technic. It's nice to get some details on the shadows under a strong sun, but if you go too much, it makes the photos unnatural and flat

      There may be times where the roof of the car technically blocks my visual but all I’d need to do is step out while remaining essentially in the same exact spot. I interpret that visual line of sight rule more so that you just need to be able to see the drone at a seconds notice if you needed to

    I’m new to this DJI hobby and I would like to do get my part107 license at one point. I just ordered the mini 3 fly more combo didn’t wanted to spend a lot just because if these drones get banned I rather loose $650 instead of $900 to $1300 so is the mini 3 a good drone for a startup real estate photography. I had a incident with my DJI mini 4 pro. When i was going to test it in my home where there's plenty of room in the living room, "i was going to just test hover" but i did a normal take off, it went up about 3-4' and i bumped it up a pinch, and it uncontrollably SHOT up and slammed into the ceiling and on its own, then shot forward and slammed against the wall and broke both front arm hinges and 4 of the 8 propellers in random spots, and popped the gimble rubber support off. I can only come to conclusion that the obstacle avoidance didn't know what to do in a room and went haywire trying to do what its supposed to do and just couldn't go anywhere. But i just bought all new blades and new front axis arm hinges and carefully put the gimble rubber back into place, and its was GOOD to go without any issues and work perfect again. The arm hinges are super easy to replace but require a tiny torques head. SO note to share, avoid in-house take offs at all costs, Even for a simple take off and hover.

    I passed my test today, got an 80%. I was def stressing because I took a course back in November and all the stuff I was studying wasn’t really on the test, they def re-phrased a lot of the questions. I would say maybe 3-5 questions were exactly worded on my quizzes. About 25% of the test was sectional charts, a lot of remote id questions and yeah I would agree with William_ns that alot of stuff on UA-cam is outdated but still helped a little.

    I just received my 107 FAA license in the mail this past week and my commercial drone that I will be using that I am getting familiar with before promoting heavy. My last name is well known here in parts of Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina with 5 star restaurants (18 in total) since 1948 (74 years and still going strong, and a large mechanic shop where my cousin works out of that's a local pro race car driver. Cousin that's a Real Estate agent and another real estate agency that is under the family's last name. I am not promoting big time just yet until I feel more comfortable and videos like yours does help. I placed a 46 second advertisement video up on UA-cam to send over the clickable link when ready to agents everywhere and this week coming I will have a website out as well and I have a great video editor also.I Can't wait to start moving things along but with the last name already in these professional businesses, I am also cautious on marketing to hard at one time as well. Looking and listening to Your experienced advice. Being an amateur i photographing with a year of drone flying experience an estate agent was contacted, and she was interested. She sold 2 properties for me and sold 2 properties to me. In other words, a good contact. You use still pictures. My idea, not being a real photographer, was fly around the property making live recordings from which still pictures can be cut out. Every angle will be there. 4K 60 is available. For the Mini 3 PRO a wide angle lens is available. The Mavic 3 PRO, standard cameras. What's Your comment to my approach?

    • @Eloc626
      @Eloc626 5 місяців тому

      So it’s not a bad idea at all and can definitely be useful depending on your goals. The issues I might see with that in my line of work is that even the most clear still frame from a 4K video is only equivalent to 8.3 megapixels. Where as regular stills with my Air 2S are 20 megapixels and even up to 48 megapixels on the Air 2. Additionally, taking stills from a video prevents you from taking bracketed shots which you need to create an HDR image. So at the end of the day, if you don’t need a super high quality still photo and have no intention of creating an HDR, I think it’s a great idea.

    Having just recently passed the Part 107 test, I am keen to explore how to start earning money with my drone. Real estate pictures seems a good field to explore. I am curious though how you are able to fly from your car without keeping your drone in your line of sight. Can you obtain a waiver for this?

    • @Eloc626
      @Eloc626 5 місяців тому

      Usually I’ll keep my sunroof open and I park close to the property that I’m shooting. None of the shots require me to fly too far away from the house so the only time the drone is out of sight is when it’s temporarily behind a tree or momentarily behind the house for the last picture.

    • @malcolmklein9316
      @malcolmklein9316 5 місяців тому

      Thanks for the clarification. I have been nervous flying over and around my house and in class G airspace. When I do, it is usually below 50 feet, which I now realize is problematic, as noted by another comment in this thread. Being new to drone flying, I am victim of the psychological attribute that associates the ground with safety. Flying low is therefore less stressful that flying high. This feature makes it more likely to fly into obstacles, and for people on the ground to notice the drone and believe that they are being spied upon. It is similar to the psychological attribute that leads novices to reach for the shore when a kayak tips that way, when the safer behavior would be to lean the other way, away from the shore, to bring the kayak back into balance. Making sure that the compass and IMU are calibrated ensures that the drone icon on the screen correctly orients the PIC to the direction of flight of the drone. I had this problem the other day when I was not able to orient the drone relative to home, but thankfully had the drone in my line of sight and flew it back through trial and error. Fortunately, I was in a very large park with no tall obstacle in sight. Lesson learned: a considerable amount of flying experience and expertise goes into making a simple aerial video safely. @@Eloc626

    I lost my Air 2S on my vacation last summer. I didn’t thoroughly scout the area I was flying in and completely lost my drone to a Georgia pine tree on the side of a mountain. I completely misjudged the tallness of the trees on a non level mountainside. My Air 2S clipped a branch on its side and I never recovered it. I couldn’t get to the crash site because it was a forested area and it still might be a 100 feet up in that tree. A very expensive lesson learned. There is a moment of joy after tragedy for my drone life because with this year’s tax return I just purchased an Air 3 that I received last week. I do know now what NOT to do. Great job. Thanks for the support man! It means a lot. Totally agree with you. There’s too many people with drones to enforce any of the current rules, not that I recommend breaking them at all because the fines can be pretty hefty if you were to ever get caught sadly

    Latest firmware...... Both yes, and no! If You're confident with the system You have, think about keeping it. You never know what surprices come in an update. I think about the 120 - 500 maximum for the Mini drones. I'll not tolerate loosing the plus 120 meter limit.

      Thats a good point, I actually extend that same feeling to any type of software actually. Sometimes they roll something out and it makes it objectively worse lol

      @@Eloc626 I wish I could read what changes there are in the updates. One UA-camr told about an Android app doing it but the app doesn't download to any of my Samsung devices.

    Regarding to whom you must show your license when asked, my guess is that among those choices, it is the Representative of Compliance. A TSA officer can report a violation, but has no direct authority over you in this situation - they are not Law Enforcement Officers in this situation. It would not be a community organizer - they could ask a local law enforcement officer to check, but have no right to demand it from you. I found this (but am curious as to how a "designee or contractor" would identify themselves in the field): "A Representative of Compliance is a person who is authorized by the FAA to conduct inspections, tests, and demonstrations of compliance for small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) under Part 107. A Representative of Compliance may be an FAA employee, a designee, or a contractor A Representative of Compliance may request to see the remote pilot certificate, the registration, and the operating rules of a sUAS operator, as well as inspect the sUAS and its equipment, and observe the operation. A Representative of Compliance may also issue notices of proposed civil penalties or other enforcement actions for violations of Part 107"

    Regarding the foreign owned drone question, it may be the answer is yes, it is legal if you first obtain a foreign permit, then also register it in the US, and fly it under Part 107 rules. I found this: "The requirements for registering a foreign owned civil drone are: The drone must be registered in the country of origin, unless the country does not require registration12 The operator must obtain a foreign aircraft permit from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) at least 15 days in advance of the proposed start date of the operation13 The operator must comply with the FAA Part 107 rules, such as obtaining a remote pilot certificate, having anti-collision lighting, and following the operating requirements"

    Regarding the Remote ID question, and the use of ADS-B, I found this (I suspect you gave the wrong answer): "ADS-B cannot replace a remote ID module when flying a drone under Part 107 rules. ADS-B is a surveillance technology that allows aircraft to broadcast their position, speed, altitude, and other data to air traffic control and other aircraft. Remote ID is a local broadcast over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth that provides identification and location information of the drone and the remote pilot The FAA has prohibited the use of ADS-B Out equipment in transmit mode for drones, unless otherwise authorized, because it could cause interference with the signals of manned aircraft. However, drones can use ADS-B In equipment to receive data from other aircraft and ground stations To comply with the Remote ID requirement, drones must have either standard Remote ID in the aircraft, a Remote ID broadcast module, or operate within a FAA-recognized identification area"

    Regarding the question about finding out more about an airport, such as traffic patterns, noise abatement, etc. I found this: "The Chart Supplement is the same thing as the Airport/Facility Directory (A/FD). The FAA renamed the A/FD to the Chart Supplement in 2016, but the front section containing individual airport information is still referred to as the A/FD. The Chart Supplement provides comprehensive information on airports, large and small, and other aviation facilities and procedures"
