Memory Decline - A Journey Facing the Forgetfulness of Old Age
Memory decline is a part of the aging process-a journey that none of us can avoid. For the elderly, as memories gradually fade, it's more than just forgetting a familiar name or mixing up events from the past. It's a profound question about self-identity and how we perceive ourselves and the world around us. What happens when we begin to lose the pieces of life we once cherished? Is forgetting a full stop, or just a new chapter in the quest for life's meaning? This video will take you on a journey to explore memory decline in the elderly-a topic both familiar and deeply meaningful. Join us to discover various perspectives on how memory loss impacts the lives, psychology, and spirits of older adults.

    Sorry, staying away from neighbors who are loud and rude is not resolved by boundries. How do you escape noise, bonfires etc. You can't, especially if you have already tried to resolve it nicely. Your advice there does not work at all.

    Absolutely truth. The roommate I had in Oregon is what you just described. There were some new neighbors next door, I think a few ladies and the roomy had the nerve to tell me that those ladies are lesbians, OMG sofw and who the hell cares. I feel sorry for anyone who lives near this person and some of the other people I used to have in my life. I went no contact and blocked and moved away from all the toxic village idiots that were in my life. 👍👍

    Setting boundaries do not foster self reliance. When you stand up for yourself and refuse to enable the mooch, they just get angry and bad mouth you at every opportunity. Many of them blame you - it’s your fault they are poor and helpless and you are a terrible person for not helping, or indeed no giving constantly. They flip the guilt around. Since you won’t help that’s the reason they are suicidal or incompetent. I had a neighbor who would borrow constantly. An egg or a scoop of butter was one thing, I had no problem with that. The request soon became daily though. She was just lazy. One day she wanted to borrow my typewriter. I said no, and told her why. “Oh, I’ll get it repaired if it breaks” she said. I still said no. Then she asked to borrow my sewing machine. Again I said no. Same reasons. Then it was “you go to (this town every day anyway, so could you stop at this grocery store…” ). It would be a terrible inconvenience for me. I had an infant, a horse I cared for daily, a full time job, a house and husband. She just had herself and husband, and a couple of very capable kids. No job. Had a car. Anyway, these kind just ask for more and more. Every time i asked for an egg or slice of butter? Oh! She never had it. Ever! Unbelievable. It’s always one sided. They don’t reciprocate. They just withdraw and make YOU the bad guy.

    Absolute truth, esp of the neighbors. The sooner we avoid such people, better for one's well being. I got myself into trouble by choosing a horrific landlord who had all the 3 types in one solid family. 3 petrified years of my life in such horrific house turned my positivity to darkness, despite close connection to god, I was in darkness. However, I avoided the landlord lady and her mean family, they tried to annoy me everyday, to avoid seeing them downstairs, i ended up in fear and avoidance of the weird experience! Horrific is the term.When we find some one uncomfortable for our soul, we need to learn to give up on them right away and move to a better space. I ended up losing my peace, money and job being in the toxic house with an irritating unacceptable behavior of the landlord. Some people will never change and those horrific people are one such examples.

    I have my own theory on memory recall. I am 77 and I look at it this way. Our minds are like a file cabinet. By the time we are in our 50's, 60's and 70's all our files are full, if not crammed with memories and information we have stored over the years, and it just takes a little longer to find what we need to bring up. Amen

    • @PhilosophysLight
      @PhilosophysLight 5 днів тому

      That's a great analogy! It makes sense that with a lifetime of memories and experiences, it might take a little longer to sort through everything, but all those rich memories are still there. Thanks for sharing your insight!

      MY BD was on the 17th and I turned 77 ,hard to believe,as time went by so swiftly.Something really special about us 47ners ,most don't look nor act our age. I walk everyday and try and get 10 to 12,000 steps in although there are some days only 5,000.Tons of supplements and much self care. Not going down without a fight. When I meet people born in 47 I feel like we are grapes on the same vine. 🍇🍇🍇🍇,we do get better with age,and become wiser in that not just anyone can pop our cork!!!! Happy birthday to the Libra sun signs 🥰🥰

      There is no solutions but if you find one please let me know. I'm not selling my home or anything else to move in with anyone. I know that by experience They will kick you out in a flash no matter what. As long as I can make decisions I'll do that. No one will treat you right bc they think they have the upper hand and the control. Your adult child will not care how you get treated period!!!

    I will be 93 in Dec. I live alone and maintain my home. work in my flower beds and let its day unroll to do what I want. I have survived breast cancer and numerous surgeries and still get up every morning, make my coffee, and go outside to drink it if it is pleasant. I hurt but still managed. I am determined to be my own person and have the self-motivation to stay active. Stop thinking of being old and instead harness that energy into doing something constructive.

    My two adult children (31 and 29) would be devastated if at age 73 turn down dialysis and die earlier.

      Your health is so important, and while I understand your concern for your children, taking good care of yourself should come first. Along with medical treatment, have you considered exploring other methods like meditation or mindfulness? Sometimes, these practices can bring unexpected benefits and may even lead to positive changes in your well-being. You never know-there could be a wonderful shift ahead!

    This simplistic video is quite suitable for the grade school audience of Eleanor H. Porter's Pollyanna series of books. "Hate speech"? "Harmful" speech? And, precisely what might that be? Various regimes (especially, the Biden one and its corporate minions) are using this phrase quite handily to stifle dissent. You are on a really slippery slope, here. Sure, we should not promote lying and boasting. But, life is full of qualifications, such as the "white lie" for beneficial purposes. This is to say, life is a lot more complicated and qualified than what a grade school kid realizes. Revealing secrets? Julian Assange? Whistleblowers? Corrupt dictatorial regimes? And, why should we be tethered to Western philosophy? Not very inclusive, I'd say. I guess Africa, Asia, and indigenous peoples don't exist. No, rather than philosophy, I'd say this video has more propaganda than philosophy, with truth heavily flavored with obsequiousness . Jeremy Horne, Ph.D. Retired philosophy professor

      @jeremyhorne5252 Thank you for sharing your insightful thoughts! It's an honor to receive your feedback. I completely agree that life is very complex and there are many aspects to consider. The issues you raised are important and worthy of discussion. However, I believe that we should maintain honesty, simplicity, and ethics in any situation. Even in difficult and complex circumstances, upholding our core values will help us create a positive communication environment and build trustworthy relationships. We can explore deeper aspects of life at the same time, but we shouldn’t forget that honesty and ethics are the foundation of all interactions. It’s wonderful to have diverse perspectives like yours to enrich the discussion!
