I'll chime in along with lonniepaulson from the antiques club. I got excited by photography in '68, two years later became the chief photographer at my high school and made all the portraits of the seniors for the yearbook. I went on to become a pro in various capacities, from photojournalism t commercial. Now I use only film, only B&W, all wet darkroom, no Photoshop. I love the process, the challenges the limit of the medium that make me work hard, the concentration needed. Your advice to not worry about being original or profound, etc. at the beginning is vital. Have fun! Discover! If you find that your images or your prints are coming out the way YOU want them to, find out what the problem is and go about solving it. If you stop discovering or improving, you'll be bored -- or you already are. The world-famous cellist Pablo Casals was asked when he was 92, I think, why he continued practicing hours a day. He replied, "I'm beginning to notice some improvement." The photographer you referred to may have been Ansel Adams; I'm not sure. He is quoted as saying that a year in which he made 12 portfolio-worthy photographs was a good year for him. And he was prolific! Look him up. It's terrific that you're finding this exciting; I hope it stays with you and vice-versa. I look forward to following your progress. Best wishes.

I'm glad to see young people like you getting so excited about photography, especially film photography. I am an old man, I started photography when I was 16 years old. back in 1969. There was only film photography than. My first love for photography was in the darkroom.
