You are my sunshine, played on a long neck merlin banjo in dDAea tuning
A dose of the heavy stuff

Thick sopping wet irish grass with very unfavourable conditions underfoot. Indeed one of the worst i have ever had to cut. Briggs 161cc DOV engine on a 22 inch self drive mower. So far i have had no problems at all with this machine or its engine. Good solid cast aluminium deck too. Lawns tend to be like this in the spring also. Very hardy mowing conditions that will test any mower to its full ...
This old flathead
Переглядів 21Рік тому
A recent ressurection of a very old and very rough briggs 3hp flathead. Year unknown. This engine was in horrible shape when i picked it up. Between corrosion, water in the sump, and general disrepair this thing shouldnt run at all. Merely a boredom project that worked out much better than i had hoped. Even got it to cut its first strip of grass in Lord knows how many years. Its mounted to a vi...

Long neck banjo messing

A bit of messing with "yell in the shoats", an oldtime fiddle tune. Had to be quare and play it on a banjo
Another overgrown one

Brutus my home made lawnmower doing its thing. Not the heaviest of stuff by any means, still a little on the thicker side for a regular mower. This right here is why i built this thing. 206cc briggs 5hp flathead
The italian power. I have a 2013 ds 3200 by emak.
@@simone1997ita a good machine too

The old warrior ticks very nicely! 🙂
I HAVE THE SAME ENGINE A VERY HARD TO PULL OVER TO GET IT STARTED . WHAT IS YOUR ENGINE LIKE TO START ?
Thats odd. These things are a bit easier to pull than the old flatheads i recon. This one is anyway, my mother can even start it. I think yours is either due a valve adjustment or maybe a decompression valve. Theyre a very strange engine. Also check your engine brake as ive come across some that delaminated the friction material and wedged it against the flywheel. Mine has had the full safety delete treatment
sounds like a thumper
Plenty loud thats for sure. The video doesnt really capture the true exhaust note of these beasts, especially with it reverberating off the house about 10 to 20 meters away
Nice set buddy
Many thanks! Stole this one from a gent in a pub session a little over a year ago by the name of Dan Duffy. Great banjo player. He doesnt even know the names of the first 4 tunes and to be quite honest hes the kind of chap who could have thrown random parts of tunes together and made a set out of it. If ever youre in larkins in athlunkard of a wednesday night theres a high chance youll see him
YES I LIKE IT THE BANJO VERSION .🍌
Thanks Shane! Glad you enjoyed
HI , VERY NICE OLD HAYTER HARRIER 2 LAWNMOWER . THESE MOWERS CUTS LIKE A CYLINDER PETROL MOWER AND GIVES A VERY GOOD CUT .
Thats for sure. This one is rough. An experiment at best. It needs a lot more work to make it into a machine that can be used properly. As it stands, it can only be run for a maximum of 2 minutes as the engine will overheat due to a complete lack of cooling
Good work, Alex, sounds amazing keep it up my friend
Dude it chews right through that deep lawn and doesn't even care!
It does be fairly good at that. Tallest stuff ive cut with it was 3 foot tall, and i have yet to find something taller to really test it
@@alexhickey5633 that's awesome how many horsepower is that engine? Looks like an older '70s Briggs those things even at 3 horsepower still seemed to have more power than today's engines for some reason.
@@ils360 rated for 5hp at 3600 rpm. 206cc like the horizontal shaft 5hp flatheads just leaned on its side. The old 3hp flatheads were 127cc. And the 3.5hp classics were 148. A sizeable enough engine and torquey too which is why they seem to lug down a lot better than the modern 4.5hp ohv engines. A lot of those are only 125cc. In applications like mowers, and being naturally aspirated with a carburettor, limited valve opening duration, lower compression ratios, set ignition timing, and just overall basicness, there really is no replacement for displacement
@@ils360 btw brutus's engine is from 1988, one of the later vertical shaft big block 5hp ones. The series started back in the early 1970s and never changed much. Not sure when they discontinued this engine but id imagine it was whenever they brought out the 190cc quantum series
@@alexhickey5633 correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Brutus built by Briggs & Stratton?
Is that that home built overpowered lawn mower you were telling me about a couple months back?
Yep thats the one. Big block 5hp briggs slinging an 18 inch blade like nobodys business
Hi Alex, how are you? I haven’t heard from you in a long time. Hopefully you’re doing okay good work with the bonjour
Ah, busy out now to tell you the truth. Very little time to be making videos or relaxing
NICE ALEX H
Thanks Shane!
HI ALEX H . NICE HOMEMADE PETROL MOWER .😉

DO YOU KNOW THE FIRST PART OF THIS TUNE
I do i think. It was learned by ear from an old tape recorder

I plan to buy the same one very cheaply in good condition but I think there are no more new spare parts in Husqvarna services.. For example, if i need ignition or carburetor for this saw i think that is no more in services
Ignition parts for these are not cheap or easy to come by, likewise with most parts on the L65. They are a showpiece nowadays. In terms of a carburettor, one from a homelite super xl will work. The adjustment screws are long however so youll need to cut them to length and slot the ends. Welcome to vintage chainsaw collecting!
Yerrr,,,,,,wellll,,,,,, I'm a bit envious 😋 💚 Thank you for showing
Go the Huskys 🤘👌 nice Thank you for showing
That thing runs soo smooth man I have a l65 too i have a vid uploaded with it ypu can go and watch it if ypu want
Bro I have the same last name.
Minty👌
THE OLD CHAINSAWS SEEM TO SMOKE MORE .
They definitely do. This one was smokey because i had it idling for too long. Oil and carbon gathered in the exhaust and shur as soon as it got hot it just fumigated the place. After some cuts in timber it barely smokes at all
👍
Some operator lad.
Keep it up, sounds great!
Is the l77 lighter in weight than the l65 ?
A touch heavier but not by much
@@alexhickey5633 sound thanks for the reply 👍
@@fearghalmorrissey2601 no hassle. My 77 is currently being repaired unfortunately. Out of action til an ignition unit arrives
Is that a 24 inch bar?
No unfortunately, only 20
@@alexhickey5633 Nice. Currently renovating my B65 and have bought a new 20 inch bar.
@@philipsterner77 you'll have plenty of power to pull that bar. Saw wont be under much pressure. Too bad parts are scarce for these tanks of saws. Right torquey machines
@@alexhickey5633 Yes. Also ordered a carb kit so will hopefully get the saw cutting some wood this week.
@@philipsterner77 thankfully the carbs on them were made until very recently. Good ol tillotson. Best carbs for older saws. Easy to work on and perform well with no bs
#lowidlelife am i right? 😂😂
Do u have snap? Id love to stay in touch with u!
Only saw the comment now bud, yes i indeed have snapchat!
May i add u on snap? If so whats ur snap?
I have this to do with at least 2 maybe 3 Homelites. Shopping for parts now. I like these old saws. Glad to hear your Chinese after market piston and cylinder are doing the job. I'm searching for old dealer stock that's new or in good used condition.
Those are hard to get. Best bet is to look for a parts saw. You might get lucky. And youll have a whole saw worth of parts too
@@alexhickey5633 Here in the US there are some new after market parts as well as new old stock parts available from time to time. And yes, I have bought saws in non running condition before. The best parts hopefully will be cannibalized to keep others in service or combined to build up a complete unit. After market Cylinders, rings, and pistons are rapidly becoming the easiest option on those major components.
@@johnnorman7708 definitely. I would never buy an almost complete rare saw for parts alone. If it was already missing loads of stuff i would buy them up from time to time. But where i can buy brand new bits, i will go that way
HI , THAT IS ONLY JUST ABOUT TICKING OVER.
Its at about 900 to 1000 rpm i think. You can see the flywheel spinning through the recoil vent
Bull of a yoke lad..
Fair dues to you for finding it. Shes serving me very well!!!
