Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland (GBA/Wii U) - Part 06: Orange Ocean - Full Playthrough
Nightmare in Dreamland being a remake; sticks to pretty much the same formula; but improves a lot of things to make it more fun and consistent. Overall, I recommend playing this version over the original; though it does have some strange relapses, such as animations in certain levels just being completely gone.
Much like Kirby's Adventure, it does a good job of explaining itself.
Both of these games were recorded via emulation.

The second Kirby game, and the one that gave Kirby his signature Copy ability in the first place. There is a lot to love about Kirby's Adventure, but it certainly isn't without it's flaws. Yeah, the missions for some levels can be downright brutal. I still find reconstructing ROB to be one of the biggest 'guide dang it' moments. But, it is how lots of games were designed back then. It extended play time, because players were expected to play and exhaust all possibilities. I jotted down a few notes about the missions, before playing so I had something I could reference.

    Rule one of these kinds of videos never put two POVs of the same scene, since we don’t hear sonic’s thoughts it would be best to do tails story for the egg hornet introduction, then use sonic for the boss. Overlapping similar scenes just ruins the immersion, like the scene where angel island falls to when it cause a quake sound in big’s story works well cause it matches up, one moment for different areas work but two POV for the same doesn’t work, set one scene that works for all characters so it doesn’t feel some much is happening at once or the story feels broken.

      To be fair, you are correct. This is something I probably should've done (and actually did do come Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic 2006). Sonic Adventure I hadn't really done something like this, and I wanted to use all the storylines. Had I looked back, I probably would've realized how dumb it was to do it this way.

      At this point, I have no real plans of doing any of the others; as I'm not as familiar with them as I am the others; and for some (like Sonic Heroes) there would be little point; as Sonic Heroes has a linear story with essentially no logical timeline (All 4 stories take place at the same time; and have all characters fight the same bosses at the same moments; it makes no sense).

    Why you put "n64, Xbox, switch" if you are playing on emulator? 👎

    • @Kohchu
      @Kohchu 27 днів тому

      Maybe because those are the consoles Goldeneye is available on? Just because I prefer the Emulated experience for this, doesn't mean everyone will; and posting the list of consoles one can find the game on, helps if they want to find and play it for themselves.

    • @ZA-7
      @ZA-7 27 днів тому

      @Kohchu you aren't playing this on any of the consoles listed, why don't you put PC on the title? Is misleading. I don't have a problem with playing on emulator, but the title is wrong.

    • @Kohchu
      @Kohchu 27 днів тому

      Because Goldeneye was never released officially on the PC; thus that would be incorrect too. The Gameplay is of the N64 version emulated; which is identical to the Xbox and Switch (which is also emulated btw). I post the consoles the original game is from so it's easier to find the game if people are searching for it. That's the reason I put the consoles in the title.

    Huh. Ya know, the hard hat woulda been really useful to know about when Collector and I did our playthrough. We actively avoided the Dynamite power just because of the recoil damage. Oh yeah and using the double-fire power and getting stuck on this cliffs happened to us WAAAY too many times. I had the exact same response as Woody, and Collector as Buzz. I ALSO wish I knew about the "food from the fridge-power damages enemies" part, because otherwise we assumed it was kinda useless and thus avoided it too.

    • @Kohchu
      @Kohchu Місяць тому

      Yeah, the Double Fire ability has a buttload of unlag which usually results in you falling off cliffs. It's one of my least favorite abilities because of that. Looks cool, but my lord is it bad due to that. And Fridge is kinda overpowered if I'm being honest. It's always optimal, since it kills enemies and heals you.

    • @AceSpadeThePikachu
      @AceSpadeThePikachu Місяць тому

      @@Kohchu When we discovered the Fridge power we thought it was funny but since there were no enemies around and Kirby can't move in Fridge form we assumed it was just a "joke" power. Made for a good laugh but not really meant to be useful. I had no idea the food actually hurts enemies. For use so far the most useful power up has been the fire sword (with the runner-up being the lightsaber.) They handle more like ROPG weapons which we're more used to, they're easy to control and have a decently wide range. The fact that you can throw the fire sword to hit enemies at a distance and multiple of them at a time makes it especially useful for boss battles.

    • @Kohchu

      @@Kohchu That is one downside yes, which makes them a bit cumbersome in levels where you need to move really fast (like trying to outrun a flood of sand or lava.) But they're great for most boss and miniboss battles. Plus they're just plain cool.

    I never thought about this, but the entirety of the events of Sonic Adventure take place within the span of 5 days. No, seriously, I did the math. I say 5 days because I count the night the Master Emerald was shattered, thus releasing Chaos, as Day 1 of the Chaos Incident.

    This is where the game really started to test our patience, especially with the water currents and that freaking shark I forgot exactly how many tries it took us to beat that thing but the video of it is up on my channel for anyone who wants to see Collector and I suffer. We also had to look up most of the hidden shards in the world.

    • @Kohchu
      @Kohchu Місяць тому

      Actually not a Shark. That's Acro the Killer Whale. He was also in Dreamland 3 (you're probably noticing a pattern). The reason why Kirby 64 and Dreamland 3 share so many similarities is because Dreamland 2, 3, Kirby 64 and Kirby Squeak Squad are all part of what fans dub the "Dark Matter saga" of Kirby. All the games essentially focus around Dark Matter and Zero in some way shape or form.

    It feels so weird watching someone play a game like this without obsessively trying to grab each and every single item and/or star, but I guess that's just because Weird Collector and I are like that. We have this compulsion to grab every single item we see even if we know we don't need it. Also I do kinda love the very 90s aesthetic of the boss for this world. It's like one of those classic Windows 95 screensavers turned into a boss battle, and it's somehow kinda awesome. Oh yeah and that dang Bomb-Spark hidden Shard. Another one we hade to look up because we hadn't even tried that combination in the entire run up until we decided to try and 100% so we had no idea "lightbulb Kirby" was even a thing or that it was needed to light up a room to figure out a puzzle.

    • @Kohchu
      @Kohchu Місяць тому

      Lightbulb Kirby was basically a Holdover from Dreamland 3. It was triggered by activating Spark with Kine the Sunfish. It was used for similar puzzles, but there were more in Dreamland 3... again, this is something you'd know if you played it. But unlike some later puzzles, this one was easier to figure out. It's a darkened room, and experimenting with powers, you'll find the Lightbulb. It's logical, although the fact fire doesn't work feels off, it is a technology based area, so electricity makes more sense.

    • @AceSpadeThePikachu
      @AceSpadeThePikachu Місяць тому

      @@Kohchu We might have figured it out had we known about the Lightbulb power, but we hadn't discovered it yet at that point. We were mostly focusing on what powers were useful against enemies (and just plain fun like the Lightsaber.)

      @Kohchu Місяць тому

      I tried doing that, it CAN work sometimes, but I find one will often slip past this way. It was honestly easier to just spin in a clockwise fashion, since the Fish stay at the same height, so as long as you move quick enough, you can hit all of them before they get in range.

    • @smashbrother2367
      @smashbrother2367 Місяць тому

      @Kohchu yeah I didn't feel satisfied enough doing it the hovering way and decided to go around the cage in circles aiming at and shooting the fish and I also did some half circles as well to back track just in case I missed a fish in a certain area around the cage.

    I remember a friend telling me back in the early 2000s about all the crazy power-up combos in this game which is what made me curious enough about it to finally try a blind Let's Play of it, like...over 20 years later. It certainly is an interesting experience experimenting with different combos to see what madness Kirby spawns from his own body. But you can probably guess what ThatWeirdCollector and my favourite combo is. :P It also took us WAAAY too long to figure out how to get all those hidden shards. After clearing all the levels save for the final boss we went back to try and 100% it (those videos are recorded but will take a while to upload because there's just so many), and we had to look some of them up on GameFAQs. And I swear some of the combo tricks the game slipped in there must have been designed specifically to make people buy the game guide because there is NO way anybody could have figured them out on their own in the first run.

      The only one that is really terrible is the one in Aqua Star that requires Rock/Cutter. Because if you haven't played Kirby's Dreamland 3 to know how the Animal Friends work; you'd have NO way of knowing the Rick one can climb walls. I know this from actual experience, as I was able to get every Crystal Shard; EXCEPT that one. The other ones make sense for the most part.

      @@Kohchu Yeah that was one of the ones we had to look up. But also a lot of the ones that blend into the background and are easy to miss, as well as the ones where the colour patterns are hard to make out (black for bomb, dark brown for rock, pale orange for spike, yellow for spark and red for fire can be hard to pick out from one-another in some levels). Also that room in the volcano level of Neo Star with the dancing maraca creatures. We couldn't figure out that we needed double-ice for that.

      @@AceSpadeThePikachu Some of them can be a little confusing, but honestly the majority of them are pretty straight forward. The only issue comes down to if the abilities are not found in the levels. But, I still personally think the hardest one is Spark/Needle needed in the Sky stage of Shiver Star. A Long, horizontal stage, with cliffs everywhere, they make you do with a move that doesn't let you move, and only attacks above you. You basically have to play the stage is super slow mo to avoid dying.

      Unlike the other Sonic games, where each character/team had their own unique story; Sonic Heroes has all 4 teams do the exact same levels, with the same bosses in the same order. As a result, there isn't really a point in doing that game in "Chronological order at the same time." Because the only thing that changes is the length and difficulty of each level for the teams. It's meant to be what the game calls a "Slip Zone" and I agree. Playing through it, it's not exactly pleasant to look at. I think that was partially intended.

      @@Kohchu Podracer had slippery ice too...which in hindsight doesn't make a whole lot of sense because pod racers are hover vehicles. They shouldn't have traction on ANY surface. Still a fun game though. Not quite Let's Play material (partly because it's hard to give real-time commentary while focusing on not crashing, partly because the music would get instantly copyright flagged.)

    Honestly I’ve seen this story the way the game orders it so often that it never occurred to me Eggman wasn’t watching Shadow’s raid on Radical Highway as it was happening. I also think the quick loading screen between Eggman watching and cutting to Shadow on the bridge kinda makes it hard to read it as an “Earlier that day” flashback.

    • @Kohchu
      @Kohchu 3 місяці тому

      That's how I personally interpret it, because Sonic's city escape takes place during the day, and he fights Bigfoot at Dusk. Radical Highway we see that it's already Dusk/Night, and the cutscene following with Shadow, it's clearly night in the background. Meanwhile; when we get to control Eggman, it's already nighttime. So this implies the footage Eggman was watching was footage that was captured of the event, and it was a flashback. I could very well be wrong, but I feel it makes sense given the context.

      @@Kohchu And also News Reports on major events don’t usually capture real time footage, so it makes more sense as a transition to a flashback yeah

    How did you get it to run so smooth with no frame drops or glitches?

    • @Kohchu
      @Kohchu 3 місяці тому

      There is a special setup for the Emulator 1964 built specifically for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, that allows you to overclock the Emulator, and enable Mouse and Keyboard. It results in smooth gameplay, it honestly plays fantastic. But it's not flawless; Goldeneye isn't meant to run perfectly, and many Rare games were built with Lag in mind; so without it, some things can break like explosives being inconsistent (ending cutscenes for stages can break as a result).

    So, we can see that Eggman inserts the last emerald at right about 18:00 on Day X+1 (17:59:40) , but is there any real indication of what time the ARK does the worldwide Max Headroom Incident with that video of Gerald's firing squad execution?

      In the case of the final chapter; it can be predicted that it all happens in sequence. Because Eggman walks in on the rest of the cast during Gerald's rant, and gives them his diary to help explain the situation.

    • @budgetcoinhunter

      @@Kohchu It had to be asked, because Gerald drops a ridiculously-specific timing in his Last Words (unless the playback's been synced to other systems, and the entire timeframe is a flat half an hour). Of course, beyond that, all times given were in reference to his countdown, rather than any other clock. There's also the fact that once you defeat Biolizard, 'FinalHazard' throws even that off by altering ARK's velocity. Hell, even had to work backwards to get 'normal' times once the game switched to the cannon countdown (at least there, I knew the count was relative to 18:00, Day X +1). See, I was trying to figure out as close as possible what time of day The FinalHazard would have taken place, but it seems that the closest I can really pinpoint it is between 18:15 and 18:30, but that should be plenty.

    I may be in the minority here, but I *really* don't like the distance fog levels in this game; makes it really difficult to see where you're going and the navigation is terrible.

    • @Kohchu
      @Kohchu 5 місяців тому

      It's somewhat of an acquired taste. Many early 3D games did it primarily to mask a lot of the level, but also to reduce lag; as with the fog in place, the game only has to render what is viewable on the screen. But on the other hand, with better everything nowadays, it does come of as an out of date thing from back than. Still, I never found fog in Goldeneye or games like Silent Hill to be an issue. It bothered me more in games like Turok.

    This is how the game always should have been. There aren't two stories it's just one so why did they do that? In Sonic Adventure 1 and Sonic 06 characters actually have their own stories and you can run in to them wondering what's their story. That doesn't happen in SA2 or in Heroes where in that game you only run into the others for a extremely pointless battle.

      The amount of time you get to hack Boris' password depends on if you managed to hit Xenia in the crossfire. If you kill Ourumov, but miss Xenia, she and Trevelyan will get to the helicopter quicker, and start the countdown faster. As a result, you'll have less time to hack the password, and you won't be able to complete the objective. When you shoot Ourumov, spray and hit Xenia with your bullets, as long as you get the textbox from her telling Trevelyan that she's hit; Natalya should have enough time to crack the code. Cut through the floor, but don't drop down until she finishes hacking the computer and you should be good.

    2:05:11 Through To 2:05:50 Both Characters Break The Fourth Wall In This Scene. It is done well: it serves to both show the depth of the characters emotional intelligence + self awareness and breaking the fourth wall further immerses the player (character speaks for looks directly at the camera = interacting with the audience). For example Shadow shows his awareness by speaking to and asking the audience for conformation when he says: "This is where I- Maria.. Died?" Shadow looks directly into the camera while saying this, with hands clearly grasping for Maria's as he comes to terms with the realization that his friend has been gone for 50 years). To show another example, Sonic Shows his self awareness by turning his head to the audience as he exclaims: Ah yea, bring it on! Looks like the party's getting started! Time to rock and roll!"
