Hey, I'm Devin and this is a channel about a '92 Honda Civic. Driving, building, and DIY on one of the most loved, hated, and modified chassis of all time, the EG. Built right here in my garage and driven hard, this car gets put through the ringer on the street, track and even the dyno.
We walk through the build process, common and not-so-common mods, technical how to's, successes and failures, setup testing, and the real reason behind it all....driving.
The car has been with me nearly a decade and it's been through many fun iterations along the way. But as any car nerd enthusiast knows, you get to a point where you realize...the deeper you go, the less you know. So we're just getting started.

Why so dirty if that front diff rarely turns?
I use the 4WD frequently every winter since I live in snow country.
Turbo time
👀
Thank you!
Do you feel that the awd helps out alot more than just being fwd?
@@AttackDA9 I think it helps in the corners without a doubt. At this power level (210whp) a good driver could probably stay close in fwd configuration. All else equal, the awd does make me faster in the corners, simply because some of the front tire grip gets freed up for cornering instead of being used for all the power delivery, so less understeer than fwd. Now though I’m battling understeer again because I’ve reached the limit of grip up front with so much rear grip. Gotta have the same size tires all around due to awd, so you can’t tune the rear grip via tire width anymore. So I need stiffer rear springs, more camber, etc and round and round we go.
@@kawdzilla that’s good news then. Ive been wondering about how it’ll help considering it goes off slippage. Looking forward to more vids
@@AttackDA9 right exactly. So now the issue is since the rear diff is open, when I’m in ultra hard corners the inside rear is lifting off the ground, meaning any power that’s being transferred to the rear due to slippage is getting wasted on a wheel that’s spinning in the air. So my next experiment is a rear LSD to see if we can get power transfer to the outside rear wheel and mitigate some of that understeer.
I had the same exact issue with the f150LEDs. I thought about trimming the inner ring but hesitated. I guess I’m pulling the headlights out again but hopefully I can recreate your solution. Thanks again!
Dude, you have what they call "true grit" (you don't give up easily). I really felt for you as I know how hard this job is, but I was impressed that you preserved. There are some tools that would have made this easier for you (like you said, longer tire irons, some different drop center clamps, some nylon rim protectors, some way to get that wheel up off the ground - like one of those Harbor Freight manual machines - even more liberal use of tire lube, and even consider putting those tires out in the sun before mounting them to get them softer and easier to stretch), but still impressive work with substantial cash savings!
Good job bro 👍
Seeing all the oil on the front diff that has to have the 3.5 eco boost. I have one of these trucks.
Negative. Coyote. It’s also undercoated with Fluid film which attracts oil and dirt, no engine leaks.
what's going on with the wideband? 10.0....is it not calibrated right? should be low 13s high 12s afr..... 11.8 should be rich as it gets na. that's like 20-30% more power if you lean it out
Ignore the wideband it’s old and my tuner was having issues with it on the dyno. Someone else mentioned this in a previous video too. It doesn’t read right, either due to the exhaust construction or being old and abused on multiple setups including a turbo H2B. Pay no mind. It’s tuned right, we milked it for all it was worth on the dyno.
Great video! Keep it up!
Did you do the rear differential too at 78k miles?
Yes. Front, rear and transmission.
How black was the rear fluid?
@cliffmorrison1130 similar to the front. And pretty sure it had half the miles on it because I had the rear pinion seal replaced under warranty a few years ago, which requires a fluid change.
Former 2000 Civic Si owner, bought when new. Love the high revving nature of an NA engine, but lets be real, this is not the type of track made for the Z06. A 7:13 Nurburgring time puts the C7 Z06 with some serious company.
The credentials of the C7 Z06 are undeniable, it happens to be one of my dream cars.
sounds like an absolute symphony, your build is dope. I hope to have something as cool as this one day lol. Keep up the great content!
Thank you! Long time in the making.
@@kawdzillaI can only imagine. Looks well worth all the blood sweat and tears 💯
I own a c5z. But i remember my first time being in new rsx type s ( back circa 2002) with H/I/E. And damn still one of the best sounding 4 bangers out there!! Nice driving.
There’s nothing quite like an 8400rpm redline.
Hey man, I absolutely love your build. I would really like to know what AWD system you're using as I have a similar final build planned myself! I want to use the drivetrain from a 2nd gen CR-V I bought as a donor car, but it's only part-time AWD (FWD until the front slips, and then the rear kicks in) and I don't know how good that system would be on track. How are you finding the grip? Is AWD worth the extra weight? Thankyou so much!
Appreciate the love man. Message me on IG @kawdzilla and we can chat more. As far as the grip, it’s surprisingly seamless, you really don’t feel the awd “kick in” but you can 100% tell it’s awd as there’s no wheel spin and almost no power out understeer like fwd. Def worth the extra weight imo, car is 2311 lbs. Using wago parts so I can’t speak to CRV setup effectiveness on track.
great and well informed content keep it up
@@NerdRate thank you!

Was that Costco pricing accurate?
Sure was.
Nice
your birdy is wrong. non costco tire balance is $30 each.. costco tire is free
It was indeed $5 each, just like birdy said. Might depend on location.
FYI the heaviest part of the wheel is not always the valve stem. I have my own tire machine and balancer. I spin the wheel without the tire and mark the heavy spot, sometimes its over 90 degrees from the stem and sometimes its right on it. I always match the heavy spot to the light spot and the wheels take very little weight and drive perfect at every speed.
Great point, if you have a tire machine and balancer this video isn't really relevant. I'd love to have that setup.
@@kawdzilla Took me years but I finally broke down and bought one a few year ago, totally worth it..
Keep pushing bro. Doing a great job. Wish I could drive mine! ❤ New sub!
Thanks man! Appreciate you
you are treating the gas pedal like an on off switch.
Perks of AWD. When you have all the traction you use all the pedal.
I used just the "electrical" part and unscrewed it from the lock assy. An OEM switch from an EK is available and fit my 92 Si
You're referring to the little audible dinger switch?
@@kawdzilla No sir...the actual ignition switch at the bottom of the steering lock assy. The lock assy is discontinued in the US, you can get em from Japan, probly, on ebay... but the OEM switch portion from an EK bolts up and worked. It's alot easier, and you keep your matching key to doors.
The springy action you feel in start position is actually in the white and black plastic switch assy.
@@boostismagic oh yes, I'm tracking. That's a good option. My door lock cylinders are getting replaced soon anyway since they're basically unusable, so matching wasn't a concern for me at least.
@@kawdzilla 👍 Gotta get creative on these parts now..also just fitted a heater valve from an Odyssey. same valve as ours, but ave to re-use Civic bracket and the little throw lever that the cable attaches to. The OEM one is cheaper than the aftermarket which most have bad reviews. Race car may not need heater either, 😅
I want to formally recognize the oil pump in that engine 🙌🏻 The B series was holding it!
That B series was fast as hell. Excellent driver and definitely out braking me in the corners.
@@kawdzilla is that just an OEM k20 oil pump?
@@boostismagic yep.
Thank for the info
Go to headlight revolution. com and order the csp mini led bulbs. They fit perfectly in stock headlight assembly and the dust covers go back on. Adjustment still works properly and no cutting needed. That was stupid!
How to remove those pieces? Do you have a video?
Top strip just pulls out. Side pieces, pull from the inside edge and squeeze outwards and pull away from the glass, then up. If you're not trying to save them, just yank em out, the clips will probably break anyway if they're old and brittle.
Yooo what wheels do you have on there before the swap?
They're old Enkei wheels 15x6.5, similar to the current J10. Not made anymore I don't think.
As a tire shop worker. I give you props for mounting these very stiff tires 🤝
Appreciate it! Knocked off some rust making this one lol.
yo that looked like a struggle, good job. it's worth noting that this will be easier for people with everyday tires that have softer sidewalls
Thank you sir. Very true. Setting the bead with the air compressor will be more difficult with a flimsy sidewall tire however.
haha nice job man
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Gears are long as hell on that crv trans for the track lol but what’s your awd setup ? Stock element driveshaft ? Stock crv diff ? And who’s trailing arms and diff mount did you get, I’m about to swap my dc2
They are indeed. At least it’s got an LSD. Wagon parts all around. VC rebuilt by Trustfab, stock diff, custom rear driveshaft, modified stock front shaft, both completely redone with 1310 u-joints. S1 Alpha arms, FCS diff mount, insane shaft swap axles all around.
