Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella
We'd love to share our rendition of this old French Christmas carol, Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella. How fun it was to shoot this video on a snowy day in mountains! This arrangement includes instrumentation on both the mandolin and guitar played by Mark Geslison and fiddle melody and harmonies by Lindsay Davis.

This tune is an original written by Lindsay Davis and arranged by LittleJohn (duo). Inspiration for the name of this tune came from a common ancestor of both Lindsay Davis and Mark Geslison, which is the same family line that inspired the duo's name "LittleJohn." When Samuel Walton Utley and Marie Berry Utley took their family of 6 children to Winter Quarters, Iowa (1847) to join fellow saints ...
Minstrel Boy

The Minstrel Boy is a song composed by Thomas Moore in 1813. Thomas Moore was a poet and writer from Dublin, Ireland. The song became a statement against slavery, tyranny, and suppression of people in general. But, more specifically, Thomas Moore felt that slavery was a great evil. He wrote about American slavery with disdain. He saw that enslaved people had very little reason to hope for freed...

Rockin' Irish Reels (Michael McAuley's & Upstairs in a Tent)
Переглядів 494Рік тому
We love Irish traditional music as much as we love American traditional music. We also love many of the sounds of contemporary music like Rock, Country, Jazz, and more. With this project we wanted to combine the sounds of traditional Irish reels with 1980s Rock. This is not unprecedented. If you’d like to hear more of this sound you can refer to the family band from Ireland called the Corrs, or...
Major George Morrison & Nighean na Cailliche (Scottish Pipe Set)
Переглядів 796Рік тому
These tunes are typically played by pipe bands so our special touch is that we added fiddle and guitar to the tune set. The first tune is a march, while the second tune is a jig, which are typical with Scottish piping music. Alex Morrill was our guest piper for this video while Erik Abbott recorded the original bagpipe audio. The filming took place in the Wasatch Mountains of north central Utah.
Little Liza Jane

Little Liza Jane is an American folk song likely from the early or middle 19th century. This rendition of the song is about places in the U.S. “I’ve got a friend in Tennessee, who plays the fiddle just like thee” is actually accurate for LittleJohn Duo because they have a friend in Tennessee who plays the fiddle. Hampton town is a reference to Hampton, New Hampshire-not far from the hometown of...
Hand Me Down My Fiddle & Bow

Hand Me Down My Fiddle & Bow is Lindsay Davis' and Mark Geslison’s rendition of an old American song. It was highly adapted from the original to fit the instruments played in the video, namely, fiddle and mandolin. This is fun way to arrange a song for a duo where both musicians sing and play their respective instruments. The mandolin is Mark’s 1921 Gibson F4 model. For an instrument over 100 y...
Be Thou My Vision
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
Be Thou My Vision is of Irish origin and is known by the tune name "Slane." It is not known just how old the melody is, but variations on the melody date back hundreds of years in both Ireland and Scotland. Slane is a town located in northeast Ireland in county Meath. The melody was named after that town at some point in its history and is well known across the British Isles. Though we didn't s...
Leather Britches
Переглядів 1,1 тис.2 роки тому
This tune is a traditional American tune that has been a favorite of ours. Leather Britches is most often heard as a hoedown style piece that is more upbeat, but we decided to take a more ethereal approach and loved what we came up with! We hope you enjoy listening to this arrangement as much as we had creating it!
Hard Times Come Again No More
Переглядів 112 тис.2 роки тому
Hard Times Come Again No More was published in 1854. It was composed by Stephen Foster perhaps only a year or two prior to its publication. The song predates the American Civil war by several years, but it became more widely known during the war. Over time it became an emotional anthem for Americans-especially those who study the Civil War and the post war reconstruction era. This song has been...

An old man in a dress attempting to draw homos.
Very lively! Love the cool edgy arrangement!!!
Beautiful. Thank you.
I believe this song/melody comes out of the Civil War times; one can understand why! I read or learned that more soulful, sad songs came from that period than any other time.
he played a phenomenal waltz....something that not every fiddler can do...one of the best ever to play the instrument.
I have known, loved and performed this Stephen Fosrer classic. This is Hans down the best rendition I have heard. Thanks for recording it.
Just lovely.
Great fun! Thank you so much.
Glad you enjoyed it!

You can feel the sorrow, from the Civil war period. You can feel the pathos. So beautiful. More sorrowful songs come that period, as we can surely understand.

The peace in that song sang by you is mighty and deserves respect. Furthermore you can see how they liked that song and how they felt in to there soul. How they moved how they played and sang is calming and deep. Thank you for that video.
Thank you so much!
Spectacular play
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Does this singer, James Mangan, have a UA-cam channel or social media? I'd love to hear more of his singing.
Unfortunately no, but so happy you enjoyed it!
Beautiful. I would love to hear more James Mangan but can't find him anywhere. Any ideas?
He doesn't have much of a presence online...hopefully we can include him on more!
@@littlejohnduo3543 Please do. I'll makke sure I follow more closely. I love your music.
Thanks for doing the last verse. Folks tend to leave it out. Very lovely rendition. Foster never got the financial recognition he deserved despite his music being sung and loved by everyone.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is simply brilliant. So full of harmony. This combination of the musicians is making this fantastic song very unique.
Thanks so much!
This is just lovely. I am a living historian for stories and the music of the Civil War and I play this often, as well as the parody the soldiers sang; "Hard Tack..." I do think this is my favorite cover for this - vocals and instruments. TY!
Thanks so much!!! We loved doing this arrangement so I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This one put a little pep in my step!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very peaceful. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks!
Beautiful rendition and beautiful scenery!
If there was one thing the Irish came over the pond for it was their love of the land❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊 beautiful country beautiful music 😊😊
This song always reminds me of the Famine - an event which would have had an effect on Stephen Foster with his Irish roots - I wonder if this song was influenced by the Famine?
Thanks!
Perfect❤❤❤❤❤thankyou
Thanks!
Who’s cutting onion here?! 😢 Oh my this is soft, sweet n bitter but so soothing. Exquisite. ❤️
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Just played again as I love this performance...I play & sing on guitar however there are at least four verses & most singers I hear only sing two or maybe three versus....pity as the words are so meaningful.... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
