72 Nova Cammed LY6 first start
First start, No major issues just a tiny coolant leak and a small belt alignment issue. Engine had 260K before the rebuild and still looked almost new on the inside. (Re-upload, I can't stand typos)

My Nova with 3" Borla ProXS Mufflers

light revs and a 2 step check with the new 3" system. 6.0 LY6, TSP "Bald Eagle" cam, Speed Engineering Longtubes, Mandrel bent 3" duals, Custom "Non-Intersecting" X Pipe. J Pipes out back to cancel out the drone. Very much a daily drivable system. This is the 7th exhaust system on the car since 2013...
SBC Hooker Max Flow, H pipe, 2020 new Nova exhaust
Переглядів 4,6 тис.4 роки тому
Yah, it's another exhaust video... 1972 Nova, Got rid of the giant merge pipe from before and went back to a traditional true dual setup with an H pipe. 2.5" all the way back, all mandrel bent and TIG welded together. I re-used the Hooker Max Flow mufflers. It has a deep drone in 4th, but since i have OD now I can shift to 5th and it quiets down. Very loud at WOT, I approve. :)

72 Nova Exhaust 2018

Hooker MaxFlows with 2.5" pipe and my custom built merge pipe. Finished off the last of the drone I had, it's very quiet inside.
72 Nova, Hooker MaxFlow

I tried to cover several different load ranges, there is still some resonance at 1800 RPM inside the car but outside is just mean sounding. I like these much better than the old Aerochambers. Don't mind the tips rattling against the shackles, I'll fix that soon.
Nova 2017 Exhaust
Переглядів 2,2 тис.7 років тому
Updated my exhaust again with a pair of Hooker Max Flows and some 3" Hooker tips. Same piping and engine specs as before with the old Aerochambers. It's quieter at idle and below 3K, probably louder above that. The goal was to get rid of the last bit of drone at around 1800 RPM, sounds different but no cigar... time for some Helmholtz Resonators.

Finally broke into the 12's this morning and found there is much more in it as well. I'll be taking a trailer next time so I can really push it and see how deep it'll go... Pretty good for a car that I shuttle kids around in and take to work on nice days.

13.01 @ 104 Nova run
Переглядів 2569 років тому
50F, only got 3 runs in and this was the best. Open cutouts, Slicks at 15 PSI. 3500 stall, shifting at 7K. Ran great, with a few more T&T runs 12's would happen for sure. Ended the night with an oil leak onto the header which made for a fun ride home with the windows down. :)

Car is pretty low, was a little nervous about this angle. Cleared by a couple inches though.
Just a boring drive...

Testing out my GoPro on a suction cup mount. 1080p @ 60FPS Little wind noise, not too bad though. the whine sound is just the TH350 in 1st gear. All posted speed limits were observed. The Hooker mufflers sure do sound mean though. :P
Suzuki 125 Plow Fail
Переглядів 7779 років тому
It was about 25F outside, we were hit with an ice storm first then it turned to snow. This was the first test of the bigger 54" blade on my 2WD 1985 ish Suzuki 125 quad. You can see how "wet" the snow was and how heavy it was as well. It overcame the plow springs within inches of starting. Eventually I was able to clear the driveway as well as the whole street about 7 more times during the stor...
My Nova pulling out of the alignment shop
Переглядів 3359 років тому
Last second video of my Nova pulling out of the shop. They're correcting some alignment issues. Hoping to get it dialed in on the next visit.
What the motor set up ben watching this video since I was a kit and bow i want the same
Thanks for watching it! The engine was a 3500 V6 from a '04 Malibu. The bottom end was stock, the heads had a good amount of porting along with the upper and lower intake. It had a custom ground cam that was .539 in/.549 ex, 288/293 adv, 110LSA, I built equal length long tube headers for it as well. The car doesn't exist now, I have a small piece of the body on a shelf. The engine is in a Fiero somewhere and some of the other parts live on in other peoples cars. Check out WOT-Tech for 60V6 stuff for sure.
Love these J bodies
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Where’s the old vs cut out video
This one? ua-cam.com/video/XP048yTMb_8/v-deo.html
ok so which one is the loud one, the max flow or the errow chamber I know theirs a quiet one.
They're probably very similar in DB at WOT, but the Maxflow is a little quieter at idle. I wouldn't consider either of them a quiet muffler though. I've ran them on quite a few cars/trucks over the years.
What exhaust is it ????
What transmission are you running?
TKO600 from SilverSport with a few upgrades.
Great video! When you added the hydroboost return to your reservoir does it need to be above the fluid line so that it's a clear path?
Thanks! Yes, try to get it towards the top of the tank. Mine is right about at where the fluid level sits. The only issue I've had started in 2020, the original 1972 pump is starting to get weak. I think it's going to get a modern unit with a remote reservoir this spring.
Awesome. Just started my 87 squarebody project and was looking at braking options. Didn't know this existed. Will be heading to the junk yard for the Astro hydroboost. Hoping to get a chrome/billet master cylinder that will work with it. Going to install a serpentine kit on my engine. Your plumbing explanation was very helpful on what I need to do.
One mean machine.
What is the offset of the mufflers inlet/outlet
Offset in, Center out. That seems to work best on these cars... at least in my experience. Thanks for watching!
@@whitelightning2 Thank You for info and posting the video AWESOME
Part number?
HOK-21602HKR Offset inlet/Center out, 2.5"
Just put Maxflows on my ride. I am pleased.
Nice!
Sounds excellent. I just put Hooker headers and maxflows on my 67 Pontiac.
Perfect horsepork
معاكم حلبة ؟؟؟
What was the difference between the max flow and aerochambers?
The Max Flow is an absorption muffler, so more like a Glasspack/Magnaflow sound. Less of that hollow metallic resonance sound that a refraction muffler creates. Honestly, I still love the sound of both and the Aerochambers I took off the car are still sitting on a shelf in the shop. I'll probably put them on my truck one of these days. Back when I made this video I was trying my hardest to get rid of drone while keeping it sounding good outside the car. I've since moved out of the city so loudness concerns aren't a problem, and I also switched to a manual trans so drone isn't a big deal. I rebuilt the whole system from scratch, same mufflers but a standard H pipe and all new 2.5" pipe. It sounds great and with the OD trans if there is drone I can always up or downshift to ignore it. Thanks for watching!
@@whitelightning2 ok thanks..so basically the areochamber were louder than the maxflow? I like the deep sound of the areochamber but ive seen some comments stating that they're quiet
@@eyeshocars9978 I've had Aerochambers on a bunch of cars in multiple configurations. I would say, Out the back they are similar in overall volume but with the MaxFlow case packed with whatever mix of fiberglass and stainless steel wool, they don't resonate sound out of the case as much. Neither are quiet mufflers by any measure, but it depends on what you put them on.
@@eyeshocars9978 to add, the Aerochamber has just the slightest amount of packing around the center chamber. I bought a bunch of cutaway display models on Ebay years ago. the packing is about 1/4" thick and just a strip around the big chamber. I think I paid like $15/muffler, awesome deal. haha.
where to find those adapters?
For the power steering ones, check Russelperformance.com in the Power Steering section. They're in there. I can't remember exactly where I got the Saginaw to -6 adapter, i'll try to find my notes from then and let you know. Hope that helps.
Thank you,
Sounds like a V8
HOLYS***👂👀
How a sbc should sound.
Loving the videos man keep it up
Sounds good. And not too loud inside either.
Sound wise how different are the aero chambers vs the max flows?
The Aerochambers sound kind of like a Flowmaster 40 but without the tin can part. The MaxFlows are pretty much Magnaflows with different packing and not shiney. They are smoother and quieter at idle but loud at WOT.
I should add, this is with the MaxFlows and the crazy merge pipe setup I had. I'll post the new stuff maybe this weekend. Still have to weld the H pipe.
Very cool. Sounds good! Looks like spring there :)
This was last summer, I just made the video public. Haha.
@@whitelightning2 Oh...OK :)
@@nmkawierider I'll be posting a lot more this spring. Shop tour first, still waiting for it to warm up so they can fix the concrete.
Did you have the aero mufflers on during this run?
This was with the cutouts open, trap times weren't much different with them closed though.
So hard to decide between aero and max they both sound soo good
Agreed, I'm building a new system now and re-using the max flows though. I'm saving the aerochambers for another project. I'll probably upload a new video when it's all done.
Where is this??????
what do you mean? the actual place it was filmed? Scott County Park in Eastern Iowa.
Nice. Now for all the inside stuff...and yard repairs..lol. Looks like we are going a head with extending out garage. Only 6-feet but a little over 10K. It'll be nice to get the truck out of the weather.
Nice!
Needs the 3500Z
Haha, if I had this big of a shop back then I would have been in heaven. I look back at what I built in that little garage and can't believe it sometimes.
@@whitelightning2 If I had so much as a garden shed I would 3X00 swap my 93. Been dreaming of a hybrid swap since my first 2nd gen over a decade ago after lurking build forums. Moving in July and if I find a place with garage I have the wife's seal of approval for a swap, 2nd gens are getting ridiculously rare here. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with that garage.
@@JesusSaves86AB Sounds good! V6Z24.com is still going for now although the registration hasn't worked for quite a while. Lots of info for when you get to that point. My advice is not to rush the build, take your time and do it right the first time. I rushed my first 3400 swap and it didn't end well. Haha
@@whitelightning2 I definitely don't do anything well rushed. I was sweating bullets my first time working on internals. At least it's about as easy as a swap gets. I've bemped into a few locals that said they built or raced 2nd gens, I'll likely reach out when the time comes, there's gotta be other people around here as passionate about 2nd gens as I am.
Still got this car?
Sold it to a friend in 2009 minus the engine. The engine was sold to another guy that put it in a Fiero. Lost track of it after that.
I wish I could have enjoyed the peak era of Jbody's, I just started driving then and knew nothing of cars tho. Here I am 15 years later contemplating a hybrid swap 😶
3400/3500 hybrid is a great option. the full 3500 isn't much harder but finding the parts to do the swap now might be harder than it was 10 yrs ago.
I remember the coldest I started my 93 Z24 was -39 or 40 without wind chill, and with a lead-acid battery and conventional oil.
Every once in a while I lurk your 3500Z vids. I'm on my third 3.1 Z24 and itching to do 3400/3500 hybrid and 5spd swap, or even an Ecotec from a Slowbalt SS. There was a local guy who used to swap these and race em, wish I had a neighbour like that
Where can I get that tool! I've been looking everywhere for ANYTHING that will remove my bezel from the m4 devastator
It's been a long time but I seem to remember it being a pass around deal on CPF. you may want to search through their forums and see if it is still going on.
@@whitelightning2 I've looked all over the forum! Even posted in the about it. If you think of anything I would greatly appreciate it if you passed that info along to me. Thanks!

Thank you for sharing. Been trying to decide on mufflers for 2 weeks!
Lol what u thought wud happen i can break a 10 bolt with a stock ws6 on purpose launch 5000k 😂
This car had a V6 that probably made 300 ft-lbs at the crank. Lol
@@whitelightning2 lol gotta love the 10 bolt 🤮
Wife says "I'm taking the 72 nova to work today " what do you do?
That's happened a few times. She doesn't like the hydraboost brakes. Lol
I finally got a hydroboost for mine. I'm cheap been looking at swap meets. Looks like an easy upgrade just mount it and connect the hoses. I was thinking of modifying the bracket on the booster but now thinking of making an adaptor to mount to the firewall the mount the booster to the adaptor for future ease of replacement. Not sure yet.
I have a whole 02 Silverado I'm pulling engine an such for a la swap in a 78 monte, can I use the hydroboost out of that truck? Are they the same?
Should be pretty much identical, I'd use RockAuto and pull up a booster for your truck and one for a 95 Astro Van and compare them.
Hermoso cavalier
Nice job what brake line kit u use
No kit, just regular stuff from Orilieys. Thanks!
What engine is? 3.1?
3500 V6 from a 2004 Malibu
I would make a Rear wheel drive sleeper by using the Cavalier or Sunbird J body models if I had a drivers license and insurance
I had considered this back when this car was around. I also had a 3rd gen Fbody and they are pretty much the same wheelbase, the 3rd gen was like 6" wider overall though. It wouldn't have been too hard to make it happen...
@@whitelightning2 Quit whispering sweet nothings. I always thought it would be awesome to use an S10 chassis with a Z24 body and have an LS awd Z24
I saw someone somewhere (on the Internet HAHA) that the hydroboost return line was Teed into the steering box return line.
It could be, but I wanted to make sure it had no restriction. When I went on the first test drive the pedal was slow to return, ended up drilling out the return fitting as large as possible on the HB unit. Seemed to help a lot, these units must be sensitive to that.
I opened mine up with a heat gun and a pair of green rubber chemical gloves. Installed a triple P7 on a Led Zepplin heat sink.
what engine is in this?
355 SBC, 10.5:1 with World sportsman 2 heads, Edelbrock RPM cam, RPM intake, etc... Probably faster now, this video was with the old worn out trans.
What is the size of the fitting on the return line from the hydroboost? Is that a Astro Van hydroboost?
Not sure on the size, it was the original one that came on the unit. Yes, it came from an Astro van however a friend rebuilt it before selling it to me.
