Those are concerns. The people that delve into these ideas probably should just go back to their home country. Hopefully you won't but you could be hit by a truck tomorrow. Why chance it. All of these are real concerns in Thailand. Many people try to fool themselves or try to lie to themselves about the situation. Very few situation will allow you not to pay first and collect later. Covered treatment under the FMP and some Blue Cross Plans are the best but most times people will be required to put maybe 200K baht down and their passport as a deposit with proof of insurance from a Thai company. The only way self-insuring works is if someone keeps 2.5M baht in a Thai bank and has it readily available for emergencies.

You're absolutely right. Pattaya is a real renters market. You can find monthly rentals from $100 up depending on your expectations. I know guys who move every month.

@@MargaritasinParadise you also have to factor in the time of year. During the rainy season I don’t stray south of hua hin because it is too hot and muggy. I also don’t stray north of Bangkok because it can be too rainy.

The wet season does hamper travel. This year has been the worst. Normally I travel north in June/July for the waterfalls but the rain has been so bad this year, most waterfalls are unaccessible.

My bike is an auto but manuals are available. I think most modern style scooter/motorbikes are Automatics but I remember someone telling me many high end bikes like Honda gold wings are both. I also think the cheaper Honda Waves and similar bikes manual.

The choices some make> I was talking to a friend who just ordere a new 1300 BMW that's auto as well.

In 2012, I had my only motorbike accident. It was 2am and 3 days before Songkran was suppose to start in Pattaya. I was on 2nd Road and I could see people throwing water at the Lisa Bar in North Pattaya. There was zero traffic out. I slowed down considerable and got in the far Right lane to avoid the water play. 2 drunk Russians ran across the road and nailed me with a big bucket of ice water as I was going by. Which knocked me off my bike. I can remember the drunk Thai girls yelling happy Songkran as the ambulance was taking me away. My hospital bill was 36,000 baht, the damage to my motorbike was 22,000 baht and the motorbike was rented. Later the next day, I can remember my Thai wife telling me this was all my fault. If I would have just stopped and let them dump the water on me nothing else would have happened. Lesson learned. 😂🏍😜

@@MargaritasinParadise I`m glad it turned out well for you after all. Yes, during Songkran there are a lot of accidents. They say it`s the highlight of the year for all road accidents. The people playing are not thinking about traffic security at all. And you have the alcohol involved too. I`ve had som close encounters too, but have been lucky so far. And yes, living is learning. Hopefully we all learn from our mistakes, although the danger around Songkran will never change. Be careful 😊😊

I love Songkran now days. and am already looking forward to April. A matter of fact, I bought a new camera specifically with Songkran in mind.

This is a good point. I keep thinking about whether people should be living here if their income stream is effected by say 10%, meaning their $1000 is now worth only $900. If you had a $5000 monthly budget, and now it's only worth $4500. Could you survive? 🙃😄🙃
