This channel is for instruction on beginner level, recreational martial arts. Primarily, the videos herein are for the NFA Martial Arts Club, but everyone is welcome to watch the videos and learn and practice with us. This is BY NO MEANS a professional or high-level martial arts channel. We are not doing trick shots, we are not hardcore competition champions, and we are not teaching practical self-defense. For high-level, high-quality education and training, please seek out a local school/studio/dojo/dojang. This channel is meant to provide basic, starter resources for people who have an interest, but might not have contacts or resources to practice otherwise. And remember ALWAYS STRETCH FIRST!!!

Deceive and Circular Parries
Переглядів 254 роки тому
Fencing This video explains the idea of the "Deceive" in European Fencing, a simple move meant to quickly change position of your weapon from one side to the other of your opponent's. It also quickly goes over the connection between deceives and circular parries.

This video is such a great intro! Thank you for posting!
Thanks for sharing brother, very informative, new subscriber, looking forward to watching more of your videos friend, stop by sometime 😀 😎
タイキョクケンが好だよ🤔
よかったです。健康で安全で練習してください。
スバラシイデスネ武道ガムズカシイ😜👍
難しくて、面白いですね?
At first, I thought it was called Nagi-Tana but I now see it as Nagi-Nata. Great video!😊✌👍
Glad I could be helpful.
This is very detailed instruction. Even down to the distance to grip the naginata. Please keep making tutorials like this. I love this very much. Thank you 😍
I am glad it was helpful to you. I've done all the tutorials I can for Naginata, but there are other resources out there that are better than me. Good luck with your practice.
im learning so much😍
I am glad it is useful to you. Make sure you are stretching properly and enjoi.
Good video man!
Hey helpful video I am currently training in martial arts but there are no schools in my immediate area that I know of that teach this can you share a link to someone who might be able to help me find a school to train in art of naginata?
Finding a school can be very difficult. For an official place to look, try the US Naginata Federation website (naginata.org/). There are some official groups in the larger cities. However, you may want to do some more local-level searching, like Facebook or Reddit to see if there might be any kind of Zoom-based group, simply because there aren't that many groups once you get further away from the cities. Good luck.
OK but this is brilliant. I went through it twice and I noticed every time I messed up. I'm going to keep doing this as an additional part of my exercise.
Thank you SO MUCH for this. This is a huge help.
Good stuff. Thanx
Happy to be helpful in any way.
Thanks Master
Thank you so much for this.
Thank you
No problem. I hope it is useful.
Awesome👍👍👍
Glad it is useful to you.
Thank you for the video, but your audio is out of sink with your video. Question: At what point does the length of the weapon affect this style of practice? Is a 9 1/2 blade too short? Is a Daikatana to long? Is it applicable even to simple knives?
It always amazes me that even when someone contributes something honestly to the mass of online media with a well-made video, with clear explanation, good and correct Japanese pronunciation, just as you have, there are still some dweebs to click on "dislike".
Sadly.
Great videos, thanks for Sharing... I hope i can get the gear to practice
Is It the same stances for the apear? Other thing in what book i found niginata and spear stances?
I have not practiced spear. I imagine the stances will be similar, but the attacks will be very different. Better to seek out a spear expert.
@@martialmiscellany2430 spear information is hard to find, thanks for asner
Great video!
Thank you kindly.
the best naginata instructional on you tube.
Thank you kindly, but I'm sure there are better than me around.
When I hear "Datotsu," I keep thinking about a Shinsengumi captain...
I was watching for honor, how did I get here..
Ah, I see you're a Nobushi main of culture as well.
Great video, thanks!
Thank you kindly.
Thanks for posting this. I got a naginata recently and am now practacing with these drills
Thank you. I hope it is helpful.
thanks, this is the 1st video set that has actually shows how to preform the techniques properly. i would like to compete in a non-combative tournament using the naginata. If possible could you post a choreographed form tutorial?
I'm glad you like the video. I'm sorry, but I currently have neither a filming place, a partner to show the forms with, nor my Naginata gear with me. If you would like to find some examples of the Shikake-Ouji forms, I am sure there are some videos done by people far better and more experienced than me available on youTube. And there is no substitute for a partner and a teacher, if at all possible. Good luck on your endeavors.
Martial Miscellany thank you for getting back to me so quickly i really appreciate it. Thank you ^^
hay, not sure if you see this post, but I was wondering if there are any books on learning the naginata and learning the drills
There are a few in existence, but the one I know and trust from personal experience is called "Shin Naginata Kyoushitsu." It is in Japanese and it is out of print, but there are places to get it. We all wish they would bring it back, frankly. Amazon (not sure I would trust this, don't know the seller): www.amazon.com/naginata-shitsu-Zennihon-Naginata-Renmei/dp/4469162779/ref=sr_1_20?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1499021913&sr=1-20&keywords=naginata Kinokuniya (more expensive, but a reliable book seller): www.kinokuniya.com/us/index.php/fbs003?common_param=9784469162776
I don't know the person behind this channel personally - but he seems to practice the budo version of naginata (same as what I practice). I highly recommend this book: www.amazon.com/Naginata-History-Practice-Alexander-Bennett/dp/4907009208 It gives a very thorough explanation of both historical aspects and the basic techniques. Saying all that - nothing replaces the practice with a teacher :-)
subbed!!
good vid.
Thank you.
nice work!!! i will try some of these drills.
Thank you. I hope they are useful to you.
very good dispay.Your videos and instructions are really helpful to me. Could you make more video about naginata ?? and you got any tips on ashi-sabaki ?
Thank you for the compliment. Unfortunately, I am only a shodan. I can't offer many advanced tips. I also do not have my necessary supplies or a place to practice/film for Naginata videos. I hope you can find some reference for the points you need. Good luck.
Very good display. I will copy your actions Follow your instructions. Any advice for a 5 ft pole arm as opposed to a, say, 7ft+ Thank You.
Thank you for the compliments. If you want forms that fit 5 ft. poles, I imagine there are videos that specialize in that weapon, but if you want to apply Naginata concepts to it, the main issue is the grip, I think. You should have between 1.5 feet and 2 feet (whatever the length of your forearm) behind the back fist on the grip on a Naginata and adjust the height with the front fist to hit the target's height. If you are using a 5-footer, you will either sacrifice striking length in the front, gripping/balancing surface in the back, or a bit of both. If you sacrifice the gripping surface in the back, then you will have to make every hand movement (i.e. changes of guard, furikaeshi strikes, etc.) much more precise to avoid losing the back grip. Good luck and safe practice!
Martial Miscellany Thank You
Good video, I was actually surprised to find something that instructive on the "canonical" weapon women were trained in the use of to protect their home.
I hope it is useful to you.
