KIJIMI | sequence 01
Переглядів 1,4 тис.2 роки тому
I finished building the Kijimi DIY kit, here's a test sequence. This Kijimi uses the new V2 voice cards (SSI2140 filter).

This tune deserves a release!
The button layout seems a bit problematic. The most important buttons are hidden behind the data knob. And with two hands it’s too easy to accidental start stop as the shift button is right behind it. Better get a bigger shift and fool proof start / stop buttons. Not to bash your product. The spec seems amazing. The components too. But from a HCI / Interaction pov I see this as a problem.
I just found your device/channel.. Very intrigued! Is there some kind of overview as to what it is/what the full list of capabilities are? I'm really interested in it. Personally I would opt for more pads/encoders/outputs if the choice was available, but in the current form, the feature set really seems to be right up my alley. I've been trying to find niche gear for jamming forever, most ticks some boxes but yours is ticking many.
Thanks! It is still in development, so things may change. However, here are some of the current features that will be offered: - 16 pattern banks, 16 patterns per bank, 16 pattern variations per pattern, and 16 tracks per pattern at 64 steps maximum. - The pattern variations can be chained to achieve a pattern with a length of 1024 steps. - All 16 tracks can be either a mono sample track or MIDI track. - The first four tracks can also be a 2-oscillator monophonic virtual analog synth track, or a 4-voice dexed (dx7 emulation) FM synth track. A track can also be a cv/gate or cv/trig track and be routed to any of the 4 cv/gate pair outputs (there are technically 8 cv outputs, but they are paired by default). - There are 4 dual performance modes: fill/chain, mute/solo, macro/random, and ratchet/arpeggiator. There is a song mode too. - There is a 3.5mm stereo line input jack for sample recording, a 3.5mm stereo line output, a 3.5mm headphone output. - There are two 5-pin DIN MIDI ports for MIDI input and output. - There will be a USB-C port for firmware updates and USB-MIDI. - There is a microSD card for storing/streaming samples and project data. Eventually, stereo sample support, more sound engines, and audio over USB may be added. In terms of additional elements like encoders, the device has a MIDI input so eventually a third-party MIDI controller could be used to extend the controls. But this is just the first iteration. I already have ideas for a rev2 :)
Hitting that drexciya vibe sick af
whats going to be the max polyphony of a dexed voice?
There are currently 4 instances of the dexed engine running on the xr-1, each with 4-voices of polyphony available.
With so many different generators running at the same time, I do believe an early warning system about CPU/SD speed limit could be a lifesaver during live performances.
OTOH that might cost too many computons and make it all more fragile?
I like the idea. I would like to design it to be fault tolerant enough to not need it, but I think having some high level metrics available somewhere would be useful.
It should not be possible. What are you gonna do when the warning comes up on a peak moment. Let it cool down? 😂
@@MultiMam12345optional water-cooling module!
This is super impressive. Did you use the Octatrack for sequencing everything?
Thank you! Yes I did.
Timbre sounds a lot like "Goodbye Rute" by The Tuss lol
Good stuff. Real smooth.
Sounds great❤
What’s that first patch !? Can you share… great demo
Niiice
Take my money!
does it have volume 'accent' like the TR machines?
Yes
Can you do a vid showing that off ?
1st! We are also "Audio Enjoyers"! 2:24 what happened here, did the drum sample get reversed?
Yes, when the sample play rate reaches 0 it plays the sample in reverse.
I find it very strange that they didn't have the msw with TB303 sequencer in the store after 2 weeks. Since then also no longer produced. 😐
Yeah def a bummer. Makes it not standalone.
Nice moody melodic content there 😉 🎛️🎧🎛️🎹
Love this, is there a link for pre-order?
The website to signup for more information is launching after Machina Bristronica. Visit audioenjoyer.com after 10/1 and you should be able to sign up to receive news when the product is ready.
I'd love to have the feature Probability of trigger at each step
Working on it 👍
Love Arpanet and good cover!
The drums sound super on this little box.
yea i'd say its working
Looking forward to this!
Nice, where I can find more ? txs
Thanks, I will be releasing more info in the coming weeks. 😀
Interesting..... Is this your groovebox, I mean are you the developer of this? :) Not sure about that flam on the first downbeat, though - that was odd. 👊
Hey man, saw you just on reddit. what is this for an interesting maschine?
👌
Awesome - i just obtained pcb's, a case and will go thru SynthCube to source parts - its a big, expensive diy project. Curious how your liking the Kijimi now since you posted this in Jan 2022.
I like it, but I had to mod the voice cards to remove some unwanted aliasing artifacts, it's something you really notice when employing keyboard velocity and aftertouch, an annoying 1khz noise present on many synths with lower-res DACs. The downside is that this solution affects the strength and length of the amp envelope. The Kijimi mkII was just announced and I'm interested in seeing how that sounds.
Yes, I saw your comments about that aliasing. I have the new voice cards pcbs but that’s not the fix ..I may reach out to ask some questions in some six months when I start this project - cheers!
would you be able to put this on bc or something would love to download this
If I find the original recording I can post it to SoundCloud. You can find me there, thanks!
Love this - which part is the Pro-3 playing? Do you still have the Pro-3 and Take 5? How do you rate the Take 5 - does it sound / feel much cheaper than its siblings?
The PRO 3 is playing the bass line. I sold both. I rate the Take 5 an 8/10. It's a great set of features for its price, but there are some tradeoffs. You lose some of the high end at default settings compared to the Prophet 5, and the form factor is not as desirable IMO. I think the Prophet 5 can retain a bit more punch in the low end than the Take 5 as well.
So do those massive monitors allow you to hear the full spectrum of these synths? I assume they do but have been wondering about getting a keyboard amp with various inputs.
These monitors were probably a bit overkill for my space and use-case, but I appreciate being able to get more proper use out of them eventually.
Did you get rid of the Prophet 5?
Yes
sounds HUGE I love it.
How does it respond with VCO2 modding the VCF ?
Sounds nice.
Sounds really great. More!
Very good sounds!
Cool soundtrack! I'm enjoying my T5 so far, thanks to rich sound, less amount of menu diving & the Mod-matrix is really awesome 👌. What's your impression on T5? Sonically, is there any huge difference between Pro3 & T5? Thanks!
I like the T5, though I wish it had a brighter default tone, like the P5. Using the high-pass filter effect and tweaking the filter resonance can get you there a bit, but I think it's just naturally a more mellow sounding synth (assuming you're not doing much by way of modulation). The PRO 3 goes places for bass patches that the T5 can't go, it has a really nice low end and doesn't lose its bite in the lower octaves. It also is just a very versatile instrument with the CV IO, sequencer, modulations, wavetables, and aux envelopes. It's gotta be great for sound design.
Sounds very nice. What part was the take 5 playing?
The pads / brass
Nice!
cool stuff! interesting that you use the analog four to sequence everything! Also not many vids on the prophet 5 desktop yet. Whats your opinion/experience with it so far?
I like the prophet 5 desktop, but sometimes I do wish I had the keys readily available so I could just sit and noodle with it on its own. Plus it just looks amazing. But I'm not a keyboard player and I like programming music, so the desktop is great to have (and it's the most affordable). I do also wish it had those bigger gray push buttons like the prophet 6 desktop had.
@@sonicsandcastles Thanks for the vid and also this response. I have one coming in today and I definitely agree about those bigger gray buttons... regardless, still very excited for this one.
