My Maine Cabin Life
United States
Приєднався 22 гру 2020
Welcome to my Channel. In May of 2022 I started building my Cabin in the Wilderness of Maine. My goal was to be 100% off grid. However, I found 26 acres that already had a basement, well, Septic system, and electricity out at the street. I could pass up the price of the property. So, here I am, building my homestead in Northeast Maine.
My cabin build is a work in progress. I'm building this cabin, homestead 100% debt free, and I'm sure it will be a never-ending process of work. My goal is to be as much as self-sufficient as possible and live a carefree life away from the overpopulated cities. Welcome to WILDERNESS HANGOUT, LIFE ON MY TERMS.

Just asked Jason about you. Glad you are doing well.
The steps look fantastic !!!
Are you going to let your house rot while you run after Matt. You need to get a roof on your mud room and deck before winter comes. And you need to get it dried in.
@@donnavickery9623 everything is built with Advantek wood. Its made to get wet. It wont rot!!! BUT! As of right now the roof is on.
Hi Alan, Oh yeah that’s looking good! Love it! Stay safe, God Bless❤
@@pamboone6921 thanks Pam. You are my #1 subscriber. Projects are coming to a end. Im hoping to keep them coming. You ROCK PAM .
Steps look great can’t wait to see the finished porch!! Have a safe a good weekend.

I love it !
@@gingermast4389 thanks.
I never go up there without my winch ! I can put in front or rear receiver!
Can't wait for spring 2025
@@BradWalker-p6f same here. Might make one more trip up there.
Hi! Been watching your videos and have learned quite a bit. We recently bought property in Crystal and hope to start our build next year.
Hi Alan, Good to see ya. I’m not understanding 2 doors on your mud room, looks like you’d just need 1 going onto the porch. You probably explained it and it went over my head. 🥹 Stay safe, and God Bless ❤
@@pamboone6921 one to get on the porch one to get in the mudroom
Hi, just joined from Hanbleceya ranch. Really appreciated your helping him with his garage roof!
@@adelenoel7191 thanks. And thanks for following along
Good stuff! Was it ok to put the cement directly on the grass and not dig it up and put gravel down?
@@LarryMullins111 yeah. Its a small slab. When I pour my garage floor I'll put gravel down
Good to see you back.
I am still watching all your old videos. Really enjoying watching them. When I’m building something i always say I’m doing this….subject to change 😊
Are you a Vietnam veteran? If so thank you.
@@ernestkooistra1559 no. Im not. I did spend 10 years in the Army
@@MyMaineCabinLife Thank you for your service!
Definitely love this time of year
Hi Alan, Awww it’s such a glorious feeling knowing you’re out there helping your neighbors and friends! Get Jason n Rob over to your place to help you finish now! 😜 I heard y’all will most likely get your first frost in a few weeks, 😳😳😳 so I see why y’all are busting butts to get things done! Stay safe, n God Bless good friend ❤
@@pamboone6921 thanks Pam. Its starting to cool down. Im sure in a few weeks we will get the frost.
ayep its raining today,
You know I have been missing you !!
@@gingermast4389 awwww. Sorry. Friends are important
Your barn is looking great! I am wondering if you have recycled the old door to the wood section to put in the back of the other side of the wood section? Might be in a later episode 🙂
@@lizhaynes3524 thats in a different video.
Woohoo! You finally start getting paid 😊
I’ll be right there 🔫
It will be awesome after you finish your beautiful porch and see a lot more coming threw.

@@MyMaineCabinLife I know you guys got to get set for winter. I'll be watching when I get a chance got a lot going on here in New Jersey with my son medical I posted a little video on it on my channel today. God bless and have a good safe week bud
Looking great! Can’t wait until it’s done to see what it’s gonna look like. Have a great week.🇺🇸 Thank you for your service 😊
@@cindyblair1283 thanks. Havent been working on it much. Helping Rob and Crystal up at On The Hill Homestead. Go check out their channel.
I have also had the best success with the mesh tape. But I learnt using it as a teenager, so that would make sense
You forgot to change over the vacuum hose to the drop saw 😂 The man glitter is building up
I am now wondering if you get rid of the low silver lining and insulate the sloped roof and add a fan to push warm air down by your next winter. Would be much nicer to replace the clear roof sections of roofing and do this.
Your yard and your grass look beautiful!!!
You old firefighters are some tough old birds.. I know that because my brother and my father are retired firefighters My brother is a retired firefighter from Kettering, Ohio, My dad's retired from Wright Patterson Air Force base My brother is 74 and my dad is 98 and they're both still going strong... U from south, u know froglegs are delicious. Maybe you could show us frying frog legs in your next cooking session. Lol. You haven't cooked in a while, bro.. lol. I love your front porch in your mud room. Thank you For helping me with my memories.. ✌️

So this is a rookie question. IS there a particular roof pitch that keeps buildup from happening? I see the cabin in the back is clear. Moving to Maine from TX and I am lacking all this kind of experience. Thanks (sent here by J&J at Hanblaceya.
Hi Alan, Wow, that mud room is looking awesome! Good job! This is definitely gonna wonderful for the winter months. Did you say it will have a Cathedral ceiling or you putting shelves or a floor up there for storage? Love it! Stay safe,,,God Bless ❤

Great job on the rafters. The mud room addition fits perfectly with the cabin.
@@debbieblakie8026 thanks. More to come
Do you not sandwich 1/2" ply in your headers? I thought it was always the way to do it. Explanation needed. Thanks.
@@avlisk nope. Dont need to if you nail the tight together. The reason they do that is to fill the gap for interior and exterior wall covering. Not covering the inside.
@@MyMaineCabinLife Now that you mention it, that would explain why I had to add 1/2" ply to the headers over the windows when I finished the inside of my garage, built by a guy I hired. I feel silly that I never figured that out before. Thanks.
@@avlisk Never feel silly about learning something new. With Aloha...
One thing used in the past for cracks between floorboards was sawdust and glue mixed together and pushed between the cracks. Obviously, you would have already applied any solution you chose though 😂
Just a HUGE safety tip. Don't ever shoot your nailgun to where it is aiming at your body. I have seen more accidents from a nail gun going through the plywood sheathing and missing a stud and/or rafter and hitting someone behind it. Usually a thumb or part of a hand. If that went through though and into your chest. It definitely wouldnt be a good things. So be careful.
It's looking good !
@@gingermast4389 thanks. Im looking forward to having it finished
