My Maine Cabin Life
United States
Приєднався 22 гру 2020
Welcome to my Channel. In May of 2022 I started building my Cabin in the Wilderness of Maine. My goal was to be 100% off grid. However, I found 26 acres that already had a basement, well, Septic system, and electricity out at the street. I could pass up the price of the property. So, here I am, building my homestead in Northeast Maine.
My cabin build is a work in progress. I'm building this cabin, homestead 100% debt free, and I'm sure it will be a never-ending process of work. My goal is to be as much as self-sufficient as possible and live a carefree life away from the overpopulated cities. Welcome to WILDERNESS HANGOUT, LIFE ON MY TERMS.

Might want to think about saving some extra flooring/wall boards in case you decide to take out that recliner platform in the future.
@@knowonespecial7375 i always save extra tile flooring and laminate flooring in case I damage one in the future.
I love it . I'm curious why you stripped the foam off. I know you have a good reason for it.
@@offgridamy717 the foam held the flooring off of the studs just a little and when I nailed a test piece it broke the edge where I nailed it. So I had to remove it to get the flooring to set flush with the studs.
Wonderful
@@josannefromin7750 thanks
Yeah, watching you put flooring on the walls for 20 minutes. What are you thinking? You can do better.
@@jeffhill5865 but you watched it!
Great job 👏
Loving the new wall, just wondering why you pulled off or had to pull off the backing. I would have thought that would have given you more sound proofing and insulation value
@@jhay1496 wood only has about 1R value per inch. And plus all that cedar isn't exactly the same thickness. But pulling it off, it gives me a smooth surface.
I really like the cedar wall, but trust your vision so will wait and see.
I noticed sir, that you don't work in a hurry. Since I retired almost 2 years ago, I've been in the same mode. Life is good and so are the walls. Really nice work! With Aloha...
I definitely need to adopt that mentality. Great video.
the tv wall is your accent wall from here it looks great i would leave that wall alone
❤❤❤
I really love how it looks . If I had a house instead of my apartment I would do that . Keep doing a great job ❤
It looks very nice and the other wall with the TV at it makes the room bigger and brighter.
Looks great !!!
❤❤❤❤❤💯💯💯💯💯✌💪
Shoe polish or stain or a magic marker will cover up your boo boos.
The flooring you are putting on the walls looks a lot more cabin like than the other stuff you put up. It looks a lot better and is a prettier color and it looks expensive and finished.
@@donnavickery9623 thanks. I'm really liking it.
You can use furniture scratch pens. They have many shades to correlate with all types of woods. Looking good.
I had an acquaintance in the moving business. He said they alway kept a huge supply of those pens on hand because furniture would always get damaged in a move, and the pens would keep hassles with customers to a minimum because they hide damage so well and no one would know.
Waterfall is beautiful,
Really like your videos, the best is your “see ya bye”!
@@adelenoel7191 ive had subscribers from southern Maine stop by. They said its my trademark! Lol
I wouldn’t pick a color for the doors until you figure out what you are putting on your ceiling and floors
@@kampersadventures958 already have that figured out.
wow you must be happy were you live is always nice to get story like that , thank you for sharing
very fun update.I am in Wellington , Maine. Here there are open foundations all over the land….so cool. Rob Currier
thank ou for zhe interesting story. So, lets go treasure hunting 🙂
That short lean too is going to be a pain to clean through chicken poop outd of when you can't stand up in it
@@truth_farmer only getting 2 to 3 birds. Wont be that bad. Nothing a rake cant handle.
If you haven't done it already you might look at google maps using the satellite view to see if you can learn anything that might help you understand the area a little better.
Hi Alan, Neat info to find out! I can’t wait to hear more! Listen my friend, you had a hood on your coat that you could have put up 😳 it’s not about looks Anymore, it’s about comfort at our age 😂 jeeeez Stay safe, warm and God Bless ❤
Learning that the W family had a lot of land and it was quote "all farm" goes back to my previous post about your apple trees. Apple trees back then didn't taste like they do today. Apple trees need to be cultivated and treated (sprayed)so that they taste like we expect them to taste. I clearly remember you early on saying one tree was worth saving because you liked the apple you tasted and the other trees had terrible apples. I don't want to belabor the point- all I'm saying is maybe do some apple research this winter before you cut them all down. BTW, I live in Appleton!
To think that the cellar hole was dug out by hand, the stones used for the foundation was set by hand and the house was built only using hand tools. Interesting history lesson. We’ve come a long ways. Thanks for the video.
awesome indeed.
This is the reason family lineage is so important. I traced my dad’s family back to the 1700. And it all started by talking to my family’s elders.
Thank you for the update. We need to find those cabins down the road next in the Spring. It is cold by me too. Had 3” snow.
Alot of that area was settled in the 1860's and had more people in 1900 than now. Sometimes you can find old maps online and they show houses, schools ect. Theres alot of cellar holes and wells around if you start looking. people moved out when the natural resources ran out and homesteading failed to be an option.
That's a cool story....thanks for following up with us
You can learn a lot about history just by talking to people. It's below zero here in Wisconsin today, so I appreciate you taking us out into the cold for an update.
@@juliebabcock4110 the wind was cold. DAM cold. Lol
That’s cool you are finding out history about and around your place. I hope the guy lets you dig, that’s very exciting and I can’t wait! It’s very cold here with the wind today too 🥶
Wow that’s so interesting! Makes me wonder what happened that the houses are gone and farmland turned to forest!
@@adelenoel7191 a lot of land up here was farm land many years ago. On The Hill Homestead has a old foundation. But his has a old stone water well. Hes going to make a video of it also.
I'm a bit of a railroad fan. Maine used to have "two-footers" running all over the state. Do you know if there's any abandoned rail lines anywhere near you? That would be a cool adventure, too.
@@avlisk ACTUALLY. UA-cam Maine Ghost trains. I plan on heading up there this spring and making a video. If you like trains you might like this.

@@billholden5271 thanks. And thanks for following along. More to come.
Just gorgeous❤
Burr, But absolutely stunning
Well done ! If you want to paint those doors, I would suggest taking a piece of that scrap material to the hardware or paint store & try to match one of the medium colors in it and get a sample can of it & try painting one door. See if you like it after it dries & get the remaining paint to finish. You are making this 80 yr. old lady happy with your decorating and colors. I have often wondered why you can't use flooring on the walls. there is less cleaning & no touch-up painting.
@@MaryMorgan-m9b I think I found a decent color that I like. I will get a sample first.
I am personally sending more snow your way.
@@offgridamy717 lol. No worries. I like snow
Burr, But stunning.
Lord that is absolutely breathtaking !!!
Absolutely beautiful
That wall with the flooring on it is really beautiful!!! You should stain the rest of the wall a color to match the new wall.
@@donnavickery9623 that flooring is doing all 3 walls. Kitchen wall im going to drywall.
I like the new wall. If you find enough of the material, take the other side down and make it all the same. I read your reply and i see you have enough to do the side that was done last year. A light brown doors or possibly green.
some color brown or tan
@@robbobcat7286 im going with a light tan color.
Wall looks Great 🎉 .. I would never of thought to use flooring on them .. can’t help w/the door colors .. gotta be your choice .. cabin is looking good! ❤️ from Oklahoma 😎
@@GrammieS128 thanks. I actually got a color picked out. Might be a few videos from now. But I think I'll like it.
Light brown, tan, or coffee
Hi Alan, Wow awesome looking wall! Job well done! Whatever you do, don’t paint them doors dark, you have enough dark with the walls! If it was mine, id pick a lighter color that’s in the flooring and take a piece to the store , and they will color match it for you. Doors and floor baseboards (all trim) should always be in Semi-Gloss So you can keep it clean easier. Shew as much as I love that flooring on the wall, I’m not sure I’d replace the cedar, man that’s sooooo much work, stain those suckers Do yourself a favor 😂!! Stay safe, and God Bless ❤
@@Pammy00013 baseboard and door trim is going to be burn cedar. Im leaning towards a light tan or green.
@ good choice staying a lighter color, cause the burnt trim will be darker also! Can’t wait to see it! Doing good Alan. ❤️
The wall looks great. Good job and a great idea
