Farm Girl In Progress
United States
Приєднався 19 січ 2011
Hey everyone, I'm Nadine! Welcome! Here at Farm Girl In Progress, I share all of the progress I'm making on my little 2/3rds of an acre homestead in southwest Pennsylvania. It all started with chickens and a really big dream. Now that I am finally taking some pretty big steps towards that dream, I desire to share it with you guys! You don't need a big operation to grow and raise food for your family. All you need is faith, a little resourcefulness and you can do anything! The trick is remembering to do what you can, with what you already have, right where you are. The rest will blossom as you do! Come join me as I share my ups, my downs, the DIYs and the excitement of the journey. Let's grow where we are planted together!
How To Make & Can Cranberry Juice
I love cranberry juice. I love drinking it, adding it to smoothies, mixing it with other juices, etc. So, I thought I would try my hand at making it myself. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself. Come see how I made it.

Building Shutters For The Barn - Part 1
Переглядів 12114 годин тому
Now that the barn is insulated, I need to get the back windows closed up. I decided to do something a bit more permanent than just stapling some plastic up. This way it's once and done and I shouldn't have to mess with it ever again, except for minor repairs if needed. This will also allow me to open it up come summer and close it up in the winter much easier and without wasting plastic I would...

My barn is mini, to say the least, but that doesn't stop it from being mighty! To add a bit of functionality to it, we decided to build a loafing area off the side of it in the goat yard. This will give the goats a bit more space to get out of the weather without having to go inside the barn.Come see how it turned out! @@KateTeed it turned out so delicious!!!
Amazing!
This looks so nice!! What are the dimensions and the estimate for how much this whole barn cost you? I'd love to do something like this. This is awesome!
@@N-A-H-I-R awe thank you! I love how it’s turned out and really works well despite how small it is. I will have to measure it again to get some figures for you and I’m honestly not sure the price. I’ve tried to repurpose old lumber, discounted lumber and scrap materials to help mitigate some costs over the past three-ish years, Facebook marketplace is wonderful for that. But if I had to take a guess on purchasing the materials outright; between lumber, roofing materials, screws, paint, the KW cages for the rabbits and hardware, maybe 3,000. 🤷♀️ Prices have varied so much these past five years, it’s hard to say honestly. But that would be my guess
Looks good!!!

You do not need a use permit or anything they are requesting. One they are trespassing. Two Policies and codes are not law. And look at what there duties are. Find the people that are trying to enforce anything. There is so much to this that you are missing. I'm going to email you.
@@Laura-Redrockgsp I will have to ask my lawyer next time I talk with him
Love this
You're not in a major city. This IS PA! I miffed about them gouging you bent over to get nothing but $$$ from you. If they can boss and bully one person they do it to as many as they can. You're not sitting directly next to the towns water drinking supply and your # of animals are minimal as your not the primary main source of egg, meat and milk production for your area. ( Personal Use and not a FDA certified Farm / Commercial agricultural Production) simple backyard homestead in a rural setting. Production comes with 10 + acres/ a Registered Primary residence and taxes being paid in. I'm with you on taking this much further to have the zones and restrictions being 100% Transparent. <- It took me a few minutes to dog up that word! Yes TRANSPARENT! If you're in the guidelines of local law for your Zoning ( as long as its not residential zoning ) you should have much less to deal with. Residential areas are on the other hand a Nightmare to contend with as they throw law books at you. Your Lawyer has this and will chip through the BS. When I lived up in Boston certain rural / residential areas could meet the requirements for keeping quail/chickens/ rescued animals ( like wolves!) this might have had to do with land size/ distance from commonwealth water supplies ect. Each area had a zone requirement due to how close houses were and other factors. Worst thing anyone could do is buy a home/land and not know what the zoning for that property was. NEVER give up Agricultural grade zoning to become residential.
@@TheWickerShireProject agreed, the unfortunate part is I am zoned residential one, but my neighbors three doors down are Agricultural and it’s that way for miles, so I’m literally on the boarder, but they’re acting like I’m in the middle of town with cows and horses on my little 2/3rds… some things just don’t make sense and need changed to make this lifestyle more accessible for people. When I called 7ish years ago to find out my laws, they told me absolutely nothing, so I proceeded 🤷♀️
@@FarmGirlInProgress Well we are watching for up-dates. ( Looks you dead in the eyes ) Oh man on the boarder... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!
That looks real good!!
@@billstatler5977 thank you!
Set it up, and I'll pledge money to your cause. I'm a homesteader for 7 years now. I live on 26 acres, and we declared our land as a farm 4 years ago. If COVID has taught me anything is that being self-sufficient is the #1 way to go. That dumb ass governor in Michigan, what was her name? Whitmer?? OMG, I'll never forget her & her kind....telling Michiganders that they couldn't buy seeds! God gave us this earth for us to live a great life & have compassion for others. That's what I'm doing, except for one thing....I have no compassion for corrupt governments on all levels & parties.

That looks awesome. It was a lot of work.
@@billstatler5977 thank you! It’s working out really well so far!
I did one similar (bigger because I have Spanish goats), but I used a leftover piece of plastic lattice instead of wire. I left a small gap under it, and it is more at chest height for my goats. I also set it up with a tray at the bottom, and yes, they do eat the hay off the tray, which gives me, also, a place to give them grain when they do get it.
@@morningmystfarm2017 I like the idea of a tray underneath, that may be a good addition to this one! I love it when scraps can become useful as something else ☺️

You taped her poor little legs were way too close together! I don’t know how poor little Tweety managed to stand after you tried to help her 😢 Please get rid of that horrible music, it’s very distressing.
You inspired me to try this so I made one last night. I hung it in their coop to see if they figured it out. It took my girls about 10 minutes to get food dribbling out. After trying to figure out how to make it more fun I wired a small bell to the bottom of the toggle. Once the heard that jingle the apprehensive birds were excited to try it as well. Here’s hoping I can defeat the rats this winter when they’re inside!
@@mikecomet3057 that’s so awesome! What a great way to peak their interests! I considered spray painting the end of the toggles bright red because they see red so vibrantly and tend to peck at it more than any other color. But my old birds teach the new birds so I’ve had to need lol, so glad you found this video helpful! Thanks for watching!
The first thing you should always do his check the city and county ordinances. We turn down many properties when looking for a new home because of the regulations. I am so sorry that you have to go through this. It is easier just to give up, and that is what the city expects from you. Keep the fight going and stand your ground. Good luck.
@@our3acrehomestead Thank you. We were kind of in a tight spot when we moved, I was 9 months pregnant and we were getting evicted from our apartment because I was pregnant so I didn’t really think to check at the time. But I called shortly after we moved in and asked about laws and regulations and they gave me no information 🤷♀️ so, being that I’m surrounded by farm land, I proceeded to build our homestead. It hasn’t been a problem for the past 6-7 years, just now all of a sudden it is. So I’ll continue to fight for it, absolutely! Thank you for your well wishes 😊
