    Good points! Would add that having a FT job also allows you to be more experimental with your game, choose a less-popular genre, take design risks, etc. You can still aim to make money, but you aren't worried about risking your livelihood. Same applies to being able to survive initial failures, or drop a game in development that isn't working out. Having some money just makes you more resilient to bumps and obstacles, doesn't matter whether that money comes from a job or a studio backcatalog.

    Super Robot Wars is my favorite SRPG series that I've played. Super Robot Wars W is one of the few games I've beaten more than once. That said, I haven't played most of the games that you've beaten and would like to try some of them out at some point. Fire Emblem is probably my second favorite SRPG series that I've played, but I haven't played every FE game yet. I'm really impressed by how many games you've beaten and are able to give interesting analysis on your experience with. Thanks again for the video.

    Thracia 776 is unplayable for me. I dont speak japanese and the english patch is doo doo budder. And then the game makes 0 sense because of it. Why is it that when i go to combat sometimes i swing like literally 6 times and i gotta manually calculate everything i dont get a x2 when i double and brave weapons IDFK what they do different here but it aint normal. 0 QOL stuff makes FE unplayable until Fe6 or the remakes of Marths and alms games. I can appretiate the random Stuff in Thracia like the notes that allow you to move when you press wait with like a 10% chance or whatever. Thracia i just turn off my brain and engage combat and just win, the whole game just feels like a shit post to me.

    Cant disagree more with three houses. I would probably put it in nearly two different teirs one is not for me, a low amount of characters and really restrictive recruitment is a big off set. Let alone i think it might have my least favorite gamplay and map design is among the worst with maybe only two games beating it. The characters are awsome but the gamplay and the story around is just so bad. I get why people like the game and even call it their favorite. Like i dont think i enjoy any gamplay aspect. The lack of a real tank on harder modes is pretty huge. The odd availablility, the wonky terrible story that has hundreds of unresolved things. The lackluster bosses with terrible mechanics as the game increases. The story being mostly bad depending on route, the routes being unequal and very differing in quality. How the 3 houses title doesnt matter in all routes. Weapon arts being 90 percent boring and 10 percent game breaking/character defining, reclassing and the requirements for it, spells being awful for most people unless they are broken for you. The amount of easy stride plus warp maps. How tedious it is to customize a character for minimal benifit. Most passives being usless and some being op. (Lythesia). Bosses that in story are intimidating but you can easily one shot even on higher difficulty. Ambush reinforcements on higher difficulty. Weapons and weapon rank barley mattering except for said tedious class system. The garrison system as a whole kinda blows, especially with stride and a few super strong ones vs pathetic which you use for nich times. Like again i dont hate the game, as its still a good game for what it is, but its easily the one i can confidently say i will never replay becouse of its vast differences in quality's just in its own game which makes the low cast hurt even more.

      @@christianlangdon3766 Honestly, I somewhat agree with many of your points but I still liked it. I see it more like a jrpg than an srpg though so my rating for it is different. As an srpg, eh kind of mediocre. For a jrpg? Really good.

    I agree with alot of what you said. I think Echoes is ridiculously overrated, the game is a slog to play. It really isnt fun even if its looks and sounds good. Birthright is bad, Revelation is actually 0/10, and TMS isnt a Fire Emblrm game IMO. The biggest disagreements I have is that I think FE6 is mediocre to great and I think you massively overrate Thracia. The game has alot of cool mechanics and ideas but just as many janky and poorly thought-out mechanics. Id probably put it at the top of mediocre. The only non-FE Kaga game Ive played is Tear Ring Saga and it was fine, probably bottom of mediocre for me. I would have loved a Kaga FE6 because he could have refined the half baked ideas in Thracia and made something really special.

    • @BTrainStudio
      @BTrainStudio 2 місяці тому

      @@HisCoconutGun he revisits a lot of mechanic from thracia into berwick saga if that interests you. I think thracia have some weird stuff like the fatigue system and pcc, but idk I still think it's the best in the series. Best level design, one of the best lord, and a lot of mechanics that pushed the genre in ways no other series does it. Saias/Reinhardt is my favorite chapter in the whole series if you don't warp cheese it.

    Focus on a "real" game engine is indeed the worst mistake I feel people get pressured to do. I am never going to make Octopath Traveler in RPG Maker, fine, but I am never going to make Octopath Traveler in Unreal as well. And you can bet your ass that the team behind Octopath Traveler will make a killer game even in RPG Maker and I won't do anything near it in any engine. Not to say I never would be, it's just that skill, knowledge, teamwork etc. are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more important than the engine but since it is a choice that could easily speak to our consumer mindset, it gets overemphasized.

    • @BTrainStudio
      @BTrainStudio 2 місяці тому

      You made a great example with Octopath's team. I do believe they could have made an amazing game regardless of the engine they had. That's basically what it means to be a game designer. A better engine does not correlate to a better game. You have more tools but it doesn't mean much if you don't know how to use it.

      I mostly agree with this sentiment, but no, he should not make a game for everyone, but rather a game for himself. He should have a clear idea of what kind of experience the game should be, and trying to appeal to everyone would be counterproductive. Trying to appeal to people who don't play videogames, as a silly example, is also a silly proposition.

      @BTrainStudio I just love how demented Kaga can get with his gameplay and gimmicks. Berwick Saga had Horse Health meaning that you can risk key mounts dying if you rush the map willy nilly into armies. That and Weapon Durability being more akin to Monster Hunter with a chance to break rising the more in the red you are. So you more or less have to change weapons for the occasion instead of spamming the Map Killer 9000.

    These are all pretty good, really nice that you kept it short and concise too. Tip 1 might be the most useful, just having a general deadline can be enough to keep me going. I'm about 8.5 months into my current game and was actually worried I was going too fast. I gotta start taking breaks too, sometimes I "work" on my game and end up only changing one thing in an hour

    These tips are similar to stuff I've heard other people say previously. As such, I already started following this advice before, and I feel reassured by this video. I had been playing a variety of games from my genre of choice for a while, but it seems like it's nowhere near as many as other people like you. I also recently tried playing a variety of games from other genres in preparation for making future games, but I still have more work to do to get there. Lastly, I play tested my game a lot and caught many issues, but there's only so much I can find on my own so I started having other people play test it too. Thanks very much for this video.

    These are solid tips, admittedly makes me feel a bit better about not doing game jams very often. Regarding step 4, if you discover a 'cheese tactic' for a boss/hard encounter, how do you go about it? In my turn based RPG, one of my bosses can pretty easily die from a Poison + Defend a bunch strat, and it's pretty funny, but I'm confused on whether to just leave it in the game or patch it out

    • @BTrainStudio
      @BTrainStudio 4 місяці тому

      The good thing is that you identify the cheese tactic through playtesting. It really depends if you want to keep it or not. If the goal is to make the boss really hard, remove it. If it's a standard boss then you can keep it. If your game is on the more silly side and you think it's funny, you can keep it. Players like discovering cheese and breaking the rules. But if you want to make a difficult boss fight then you are aware of it and can remove it somehow.

    1:13 eh, Puzzle Platformers are still in demand. It's just that for me it's hard to come across GOOD puzzle platformers. It's much more of the fact there is a higher quality mark for said genre, it's a genre that's easy to do but hard to make engaging/ good like that one magnet game that's coming out (my brain is too tired to remember the name)

    I slightly disagree, making the game for myself and others, if I did this I might as well not make a game at all, just hope I find something with the setting and system I like. Everything I run across just so mediocre, boring and unfinished. I agree about everything else, I want to polish and make complex worlds with interesting and cool setting with a complex system. Not harder, but more enjoyable and worth the time and energy spent on it. I have my own aesthetic and style that I love and enjoy, I see games that I like and get enraptured by, but can never play it since the system and gameplay is so boring, broken and not at all explained. I don't need my hands held, but some games are just made to be too hard and streamlined. So focused on fast movements and no strategy or imagination. It's good to have the story be believable in it's setting, but too much realism spoils the game. I like games that are explained through the world, events and story. Let us have some kind of journey, make this none special character you have created, and turn them into that special character through the story and growth in all areas. That's why me and my brother plan on learning coding, and art. We want to make the game me we want to play. So I guess I am kinda making it for my brother and he's making it for me. Hmm, maybe I don't disagree as much as I thought I did at the start.

    Great video and lovely points hahah I agree with everything for the most part ^^ Also looking forward to more vids like this! P.S. you might want to change/censor the title since YT will probably shadowban it in search results P.P.S. farming sims are actually undersaturated, meaning that they perform SUPER well on Steam but there aren't too many of them yet compared to other genres

    • @BTrainStudio
      @BTrainStudio 5 місяців тому

      I'll definitely keep the censor in mind, so far it seems like I got away with it. Future videos won't have as much cussing so I'm interested to see how much it plays a part in it. I was curious about the farming sims saturation so I checked game-stats Steam Tag lists. Farming sims is rank 221. A little lower than CRPG and Tactical RPG. So you make a good point. It's an underserved market that people want to play.

    "Fun" is subjective. At least you must find your game fun, so marketing won't be as painful to do. Look at when GGG talk about Path of Exile, they're exciting to talk about the game because they think it's fun. If nobody else think it's fun but you think so, it's just mean you're not meeting your tribe yet.
