That's a good one. I do like to use "tussle" for the particular interaction two (or more) basenjis have with one another. In that case, perhaps the group is a hassle or a hubbub. Some basenji questions are difficult to answer.

I like how it seems the older ones appreciate the scratches a little more. Kepler can be won over with a good scratch on the butt. :)

We've had two and have not had the cranky waking problem. It is not that unusual, however. In fact, BRAT, the basenji rescue organization has a long list of attributes for dogs available for adoption. in the temperament section there is "Wakes up grouchy." Yes. It's possible for them to play rough, but without getting angry.

My experience (with two basenjis) is that they do have favorites, but with different circumstances they'll play with different dogs. The younger ones are a less choosy. As they age they start to prefer older dogs (you know, puppies can be trying.)
