i think my father worked in Rock Creek in late 1950s. Probably a mill, i'm guessing. I guess not much to see now, but i was reading during the Goldrush years of 1859 and so on, there were later '' 23 permanent buildings abandoned'' after the gold bust. There was a nearby community of Riverside, those buildings long gone. So i was thinking, what the heck is in Rock Creek now?? '' Businesses comprise a café, two gas stations, a hotel, a motel, two souvenir shops and a campground. The hotel vies with the Leland Hotel in Nakusp for the title of the oldest operating hostelry in BC. The small settlement remains important as a regional service centre for the farming and mining communities''........ugh. Trying to imagine how in the late 1950s there was probably even less. Fun times!

oh one more thing.....IF you are currently age 55 or so, are you ever asking any of these store/restaurants/etc for any type of senior's discount? Be surprised at how some places give discounts starting at age 55. Some of these ''kids'' (cashiers/service workers) have no idea how old a person is and will not even question or ask for proof if you tell them you are 60-65. They just think you are at least 30 and kinda old like their parents or grandparents, sure why not?! I asked for a senior's discount when i was age 41 in the Army & Navy store in New west. The 19 year old cashier twat said '' Oh for sure! 15% off for you!''. ~~ Milk it while you can ~~

your gas prices are in the vicinity of Vancouver's prices. ($1.75-1.80 L). I bet the dude driving the Challenger used up a 1/4 tank in six blocks and said to himself '' Screw this, i'm going home.'' I joke, it must be nice to have that Challenger. My cousin in Summerland i think still has his. Took me for a couple of rides in it, loved it. Yellow paint/white vinyl top. Forget the engine, maybe ''only'' a 318 . I think he was happy to have bought a low mile/good condition Challenger and it was okay to not have the biggest baddest beast under the hood.

As a mechanic, any comment on the Ford GT? very cool looking sports car. In 2005, i was working as an auto glass technician in North Vancouver. We would get sent to the various new car dealerships to pick up new and used vehicles to do the glass work as needed. One day i heard that the Ford dealership had a brand new sportscar, so on my next visit i went to the showroom to see what it might be. The 05 Ford GT.......really cool looking car, and i was never into exotic sports cars at all. Damn car was roped off and on a pedestal. The salesmen would scowl at you and even tell you to stare from ten feet away. I got a look at the window sticker : something around $145K-$160K (forget, almost 20 years ago). Cool car but ridiculous price. But now i see maybe if one was wealthy enough to buy and store one, the value shot up like crazy! $550K-$770K!!!!!!....nuts. www.cargurus.ca/Cars/l-Used-2005-Ford-GT-c102

My oldest brother had a 1969 Camaro from around 1980-85. 1969: L14 307ci V8 200 hp and then later i think he had a 350, both were kinda slow dogs. I enjoyed being a kid and going for rides in it. Happy to hear the V8 rumble. But i recall one year in Vancouver, sitting in the back seat. The rear floorboards had so much water on them. So much in fact, As a kid sitting in the back, i'd have to place my feet on the transmission tunnel to avoid getting soaked sneakers. It got so ridiculous, whenever i sat in the back seat (and it was winter heavy rain Vancouver), i got smart and brought with me an empty margarine tub . I would scoop up the floorboard water and toss it out the right rear quarter glass as my brother drove us around the city. I could see the water pooling up and i could hear it sloshing around as my brother braked or rounded a corner. Finally one day he had his buddy he owned or worked at a bodyshop put his Camaro up on a hoist to see what was up. Turned out the entire floorboards were rusted out, swiss cheese style holes. There were i imagine other issues and the bodyshop buddy explained it be costly to do the repairs, i think he end up buying the car for very little money as a side restoration project or whatever.

I have not been to a car show in ages. Used to go to the Vancouver show n Shine classics in the parking lots of the beaches. Later on went to PNE Collosiuem , but that was for brand new crap. Last one i drove was to the Kingdome in Seattle in 1999! Friend puffing on his joints as he drove , surprised the border guards let us get past into the USA and back, esp in his big bad pimped out Ford ltd coupe. New car shows were a big ripoff I stopped going, went to any big Auto Mall in Vancouver and viewed new vehicles for free. Keep an eye out for two vehicles i really like: 1967 mercury cougar Xr7 and 55-57 Chevys. 😉 oh and 65-70 Malibu, Barracuda /Challengers. Have fun!

Beautiful scenery. If you ever do a ride/drive out to Hedley , Google and youtube the town's history before you go. As a boy, only time my family ever stopped in Hedley was to pull over to that highway gas station. But that was very very rare when ... my father bothered to stop there. It must of included an emergency piss . Anyways, i seen pics and a youtube video of the history of Hedley, BC. ....it was a booming little mine town of i think 1200 people back in the golden years. By the mid 1950s, mines were closing and other factors, no jobs/no tourists....people flee for better pastures. Penticton was the place to be, i imagine . Penticton's population was bigger then Kelowna up till 1964 or so. Like my father and uncles, they went wherever the jobs were. When i got old enough to drive, i would always stop in Hedley on my way to Summerland. I had a hunch there was more t0 Hedley then just a quiet little tired looking Main street with a general store and a crap for sale antique store. But i did not know about Hedley;s history till recently, with the ease of internet knowledge. Check this out, go thru the galleries. www.communitystories.ca/v1/pm_v2.php?id=exhibit_home&fl=0&lg=English&ex=00000834 -- and , bcrdh.ca/islandora/object/hedley%3Aphotographs -- back as far as 1900, there were hotels, bakery, banks. general stores, laundrymat, police station, jail, school, a Hospital , probably were whorehouses and bars , there was at least one gas station-garage, restaurants and cafes. Up till the mid 1940s, the town had parades, ballroom dancing , concerts , CHILDREN . ......fun photo to check out in the gallery, there is a geodesic dome in somebody's backyard made out of cracked windshields. I saw that myself in person when i was exploring the town by car about 10 years ago. bcrdh.ca/islandora/object/hedley%3Aphotographs

Grumpy i have been watching most of your Men at work series videos. They are very good and i must say i have leaned a few things. That Swivel joint or Swivel socket that you put on the air gun sure helps with the angles . My Ford F150 needs a lot of work. So its good to watch your postings. Now i'm running to the joint for a few beers. Thanks and work safe.

$1.75 reg gas in Penticton! Ridiculous. Here in Vancouver, got as ''low'' as $1.86 other night, then jumped up to $1.91+. I never go outta my way to line up for a 2cent-7cent price difference. You know, to feel smug that i save $1.35 on my fillup. In Vancouver, the gas stations play games and tease us with lower prices for a brief break. Then the prices get jacked up to $2-2.25/L and the News will tell us it's cuz an oil refinery down for maintenance or a Saudi Prince soiled his bedsheets/Godzilla awoke and is destroying oil wells in Texas. Either way, it's expensive to drive a vehicle in Gougecouver. :)

Hi....if i could pick your profession brain for a sec, any opinion or advice on deleting the Cat converter on my 06 Nissan Xtrail? I do realize there will be extra noise and the CEL might come on ( also read i can bypass the O2 sensor issue with a spark plug anti fouler where the O2 sensor screws into) and the enviromental issue. I still plan on keeping the muffler or buy a new universal quiet replacement budget brand muffler , if need be. A friend deleted his Cat (put a sport muffler on) his old 1993-ish Chevy S10/ 4cyl about 4 years ago. Bit louder, but according to him, bit more power , CEL on but now 4+ years and no mechanical/engine issues since then.

One thing i always noticed from my visits to Summerland/Penticton, were the rainy day comparisons to Vancouver where i live. Vancouver (like today and next three days/nights) will have 24 hours , soul crushing pissy windy rain. Okanagan rain might be for light rain for 30 minutes/cloudy ...clouds part and sunshine!..or at least partly sunny. What a huge difference on one's mood. Sunshine is good for the Soul :)

i remember about 11-15 years ago sitting at this exact same spot and noticing a handful of Penticton's ''finest'' hanging around these corners, lounging on the steps and some of the concrete street thingies, benches. Some high, the usual stupidity. Back then i thought '' Great, came up from Vancouver for a few days and even here the junkie a-holes are ruining the place!''. Going back even further, maybe 20-25+ years, same intersection .... Penticton's one and only Hooker. You can imagine how that went for her in small town Penticton. Gawkers, cat calls, even made the local News. Eventually i believe she got tired of the harassment and lack of business, moved on to Kelowna or Vancouver.

Yup. Some of the higher end residents gather in the little seating area across the street to sun themselves when they are doing their afternoon drugs. Until the bylaw guys come along and kick their asses out of there
