    Algea is a natural part of the eco system. If your entire tank is covered top to bottom, then you have a problem. But if you have a lot of it growing on your substrate on all the dried leaves and botanical, I kind of think that's what it's like in nature. We only get angry at it on plants... personally, if it's on my rocks and botanicals, I don't mind, but if it's on the plants, I get angry just because I want the plants to do well.

    Wait. Does this salt water aquarium not have the whole filtration sock and stuff system? I hesr salt mater id extremely difficult to run because algea takes over super fast and needs constant cleaning and a huge filter.

    I heard this is a waste of money and it's better to DIY your own, what do you think? I bought this kit just to try it out, my tank has plants that don't require co2 and it's not overly planted, so I figured the kit would be fine to put some co2 into the water once in a while.

    They respond less to light changes and more to air pressure and water parameter changes, If you have weather loaches or asian cat fish of any kind you can observe some interesting behaviour prior to heavy rain fall

      No worries and yes I agree. Would be a good feature to have on a reef tank. Provided it could be done in a way that limits the stress for fish like surface cover etc 👌🏻

    Bro, please tell me 🙏 what time u change the leaves.

    • @MrBrightfryed
      @MrBrightfryed 7 днів тому

      Can be a few different times that are good, when PH increases etc. Ultimately when you wish would be my suggestion. Some suggest waiting until the previous leaves have broken down, some replenish after a couple of weeks. As always just be mindful of the effects of PH if you do add them more frequently.

    • @MrBrightfryed
      @MrBrightfryed 11 днів тому

      Tannins definitely benefit more than just soft water. Help reduce line of sight which makes fish less stressed. Leaves help to create that natural habitat etc. I have a couple of videos on my channel listing all the benefits worth checking out 👍🏻

    @OrlandoFigueiredo há 44 segundos Hi! Thanks for this serie on blackwater aquariums I'm learning a lot I would like to know your opinion about using aquarium soil and carpeting plants along with blackwater. I'm setting up an 40L aquarium for a betta fish and I'm hesitating a planted clear water aquarium or a more tainted by tannins water. If I opt for the tainted water, I guess I'll not be using aquarium soil and will rely on epiphytes, right? Thanks you.

    question, i have a tank with a bristlenose plecos, 3 yoyo loaches, and a senegal bichir, its technically already blackwater due to all the wood and tannins but how would i go about siphoning out gunk if i have a large amount of leaves and botanicals at the bottom of the tank

    • @MrBrightfryed
      @MrBrightfryed 27 днів тому

      Hi sounds great to me. Personally I wouldn't syphon anything out. All those decaying items are massively beneficial to the food web you are building. They provide nutrients to the tank, food for bottom dwelling fish and fuel for the aquarium itself. Check out some of my other videos if you want to know more as I go into more details. Especially the food web one! 👍🏻

    • @wickt.
      @wickt. 27 днів тому

      @@MrBrightfryed i figured as much, but one huge thing we learn as fishkeepers from the very beginning is that siphoning all of that gunk out is pretty important as otherwise it will break down into ammonia and cause some pretty big issues, would you say this is a myth or more-so just not the truth under specific conditions

    • @MrBrightfryed
      @MrBrightfryed 27 днів тому

      It's finding the balance, when your aquarium first starts out it's still in it's infancy, the beneficial bacteria is still growing within the aquarium. Leaves being organic matter are considered a form of bioload to the aquarium which like fish will cause effects to the water quality. It';s always best to go slow to begin with an build gradually to avoid spikes in PH etc. Obviously size of tank, what mechanical filtration you have, water hardness etc will effect how well your aquarium handles bioload so take it slow and gradual. If worried test separately and see how the leaves effect the water in your area or test the aquarium water and monitor it's effects by adding one leaf and see how you go same with them breaking down.

    Very good video, but water changes every 2 weeks as a general rule is quite complicated - in some cases it's simply not enough

    • @MrBrightfryed
      @MrBrightfryed 27 днів тому

      I agree at the beginning when the aquarium is in it's infancy as bacteria is maturing but gradually over time I feel the need for frequent water changes can be reduced or even just left to top up's.
