    how big are you supposed to print it so that the blade fits properly??

    • @shaiseg
      @shaiseg 6 місяців тому

      You need to print the files as-is. Load them in the slicer and print with 0.2mm layer height. However, the blades must be the ones that are in the link. Otherwise they will not fit. If the 2 parts fit too loose or too tight (usually happens when the filament is not exactly 1.75), you can play with the flow rate to compensate.

      @@christinevu3762 1. It fits only the knives in the link. It will not fit original x-acto. 2. make sure the spring does not have an "elephant leg". This happens when the first layer is too close to the print bed. If it looks thicker on one side try sanding it a bit with sand paper.

      @@shaiseg I'm all a bit new to 3D printing and I'm looking at getting this printed at my local library. I wondered if you could help me with a few questions please? I've downloaded Ultimaker Cura, to get an idea of the amount of filament it will use and the duration, as they charge by the hour and how many grams of filament you use. I'm getting a run time of about 48 minutes and 7.5g filament. Does this sound about right? I know of course, this will depend on many factors, including the printer used, etc. For the infill, I selected 25% and grid pattern, which I assume will be fine? Also, what speed would you recommend, I went with default, which was 60% and wall thickness, again, I used default, which was 0.8mm for top/bottom and the walls. I guess first I need to see what printer my library has and what slicer program they use?

    • @shaiseg
      @shaiseg 3 роки тому

      @@edwardholmes91 , Going for default settings for that should be OK. 48 minutes sounds about right. I use 15% infill, though, but its not critical. The only issue that makes be a bit reluctant to go this path (use a library printer) is that since different filament vendors have slightly different material thickness, the final result can be that either the 2 parts fits too loose, or too tight. When you have your own printer (or more time) you can make tests, playing with the flow rate of the printer (usually no need to re-slice, you can set it on the printer on the fly) until you get your desired fit. For me the parts were a bit too tight so I lowered the flow from 100% to 97%.

    That's absolutely wonderful! I noticed that you were using a spreadsheet package to create the pixel maps. Presumably you assign a number to each colour and then map the colours to each pixel? I'd be really interested in how you did it, perhaps it's something that you'd consider making a video about?

    • @shaiseg
      @shaiseg 4 роки тому

      Hi Edward, The process was rather complex but here is more or less what we did: First we ordered all possible Kami paper colors from NOA. Then we scanned it to get the RGB values of each color (not an accurate process but...), We then used photoshop to reduce the resolution of the original image to the desired size in pixels, and also, by setting a fixed palette of all the paper colors, reduce also the colors to match this palette. We then created a special software that converted the result image to spreadsheet format, and uploaded it to google spreadsheet, just so we can print it as reference 10x10 tiles, so it will be easy to assemble. Hope this helps...
