The Westlake/MacArthur Park station on the Metro Red (now B Line) and Purple (now D Line) Lines opened in 1993, originally serving as the Red Line's western terminus station. By 1996, the Red Line was extended to Wilshire/Western station (now served by the Purple/D Line) and by 2000, to North Hollywood (served by the Red/B Line).

The North Hollywood station on the Metro Red Line (now the B Line since 2020) opened in 2000, as the subway line's current terminus. Five years later, the Metro Orange Line Busway (now the G Line since 2020) opened, now serving as a transfer point between the Red Line subway and the Orange Line busway. Notice that almost all overhead illuminated signs inside the station look new compared to other Red Line stations. That's because LA Metro changed them from original Helvetica Bold text on gray to newer DIN Alternate Bold text on black, all in favor of the Orange Line's opening. Only the station's name signs (including trackside signs) remain original since 2000.

The Harbor Freeway station on the Metro Green Line (now C Line since 2020) opened in 1995 along with the entire light rail line. The station is alternatively named as Harbor Freeway/I-105 station, since it's located at the I-110 (Harbor Freeway) and the I-105 Freeway interchange. The station also serves as a transfer point to the Metro Silver Line Busway (now J Line since 2020) and the Harbor Transitway, both running within the median of the I-110 Freeway.

The 7th Street/Metro Center station in downtown LA opened in 1991, originally served only by the Blue Line (now A Line since 2020). By 1993, the station became the very first transfer point between the Blue Line and the Red Line (now B Line since 2020), with the Metro Red Line opening in 1993. By 2006, a Red Line branch running to Wilshire/Western station became the Purple Line (now D Line since 2020). The other Red Line branch to North Hollywood continues to operate as the Red Line. By 2012, the Metro Expo Line (now E Line since 2020 originally in aqua blue color) opened, sharing with the Blue Line on the station's light rail platforms. Until June 2023, the station was the terminus for the Blue and Expo lines. By June 2023, the Blue and Expo lines got extended with the new Regional Connector opening. The A Line (Blue) is now extended to Azusa while the E Line (Expo, now recolored gold) is now extended to East Los Angeles. The station is alternatively named as 7th Street/Metro Center/Julian Dixon station, honoring the name of a former member of the California State Assembly Julian Dixon, who enabled the funding for the construction of the LA Metro Rail system.
