What I don’t understand if why you wouldn’t just use fleet log to move into the system you just nuked using your hero. It seems like the lord hero is a bit niche and I personally don’t see a use for it.

The tech to end a turn i think is really strong. Someone with Fleet Logistics will be screwed, and playing thier card first is normally part of a larger plan. In addition, if your cultural planets got exhasuted during the agenda phase, or some bad agenda left most of the table token poor, somone trying to play leadership right away (before diplo) will be stopped, or someone trying to play diplo to stop an attack...all those situations will happen. You can instantly captilize on being paid for its use, or at least stalling 1 turn to stop a win.

Missing the entire global alliance integrated network. We should be seeing Western Europe, Australia, Japan, etc.

Why do I hear I don't want to set the world on fire

Hey! I'm planning to play this faction in an upcoming game. I didn't see that they get 2 of their starting tech choices, so that definitely opened up the idea of using PDS 2. My friendgroup recently got Discordant Stars. Played on Xmas day! In that game I played the Tnelis Syndicate (and won!) My friends played the Free Systems Compact (Very strong early game, amazing) and the Cheiran Hordes (don't know what they get to do really, the one playing them was super drunk!) Anyway, my gameplan was originally to go the blue-tech route. Get Gravity Drive & Carrier 2. Realistically once you have your commander unlocked, you can start using your space docks more like portals. Because ships built in your HS can emerge from any system with a space dock in it. Not to mention, the defensive coupling of these AFB space docks + PDS2 clustering around your home system can probably effectively counter any attempt to winslay you so long as you have some kind of a fleet. The secret power of the faction is truly that their space docks can be mounted on planets with good influence values. It makes going for Mecatol Rex far more valuable for you as a Confederation player, bc you can use Mecatol like a 6/1 planet for production. Plus your spacedock IS a defensive structure worth having on Mecatol Rex, and having one there means you can move your fleet freely between your various space docks. Honestly I'm not sure I'd even really care about the space dock element of your hero ability unless someone meltdown'd one on your home planet or something. In that case, you could use it to strategically build up in preparation for a winslay. Honestly the faction seems like a lot of fun. Although I was originally planning to go pure blue this time around, I may actually opt to go for the red/yellow starting techs and get PDS 2 off the bat, so I can reinforce my early game slice with the powerful combo of the space docks + the PDS. The real struggle is getting to Mecatol r1 and accruing the TG to afford it.

I think your missing how easy it is to produce with this faction to fix your start, and totally ignore your trash home system for maybe 2 if not 3 turns. you can sell the promissory note to a faction who has a bad start with capcity, or a faction that wants to explore or trade to get ships out, use the trade good to deploy mechs, have a more expansive turn 2, and a pretty rich turn 1 for essetially free. You can get out alot of plastic turn 1, especially if you benefit from secondary warefare, take warefare, or maybe even leadership, and can follow warfare. Depending on what legendary planets are out, having 2 free infantry or a mech can help your 2nd turn expansions. With your increased amount of early plastic, if you can unlock your hero turn 2 or 3, you could agressively take someones best planet and then just DMZ it and keep it the rest of the game. I dont think you really win with these guys, but you can amass alot of early plastic and be really annoying spending all the best planets early on for free. I think past turn 3 you really struggle, as your free money is gone, and you have a trash home system of no value to protect. Still, i would definitely play this faction to be an early bully.

You know... this game does raise a very valid question; what happens after? What happens after the war is over. Yes, the USA won, but at what cost? What impact will full blown nuclear war have on the moral of the country? On all the other countries that remain standing? The environmental damage from the war? The geopolitical consequences? It's all very interesting to think about...

Hold on, this was the game where you weren't supposed to be able to win, at least without crazy casualties, right? This game was supposed to warn against nuclear war, right??? I want to see a video essay about defeating MAD in storytelling, because this goes so unbelievably hard. You were not supposed to win. NOBODY... was supposed to win if it came down to a fight. It's not David vs. Goliath, it's two or more individuals who were SUPPOSED to find another way, who should've never tried to fight in the first place, because it never would've ended in any side being any better off than if they just hadn't, and yet here we are, with a clear victor who could confidently say they had no regrets (ignoring the fact that in this case, you just genocided countless innocent people). I'm definitely thinking about how to implement this into any stories I write.
