Why Disney Struggles To Make Original Movies
Disney has mastered the art of turning nostalgia into billions, but is this strategy costing Hollywood its creativity? In this video, we dive deep into why Disney struggles to make original movies and why its live-action remakes, like The Lion King and Aladdin, dominate the box office while leaving fans and critics divided.
From the emotional pull of nostalgia to the staggering box office numbers these remakes generate, we explore Disney’s winning formula-and the cracks beginning to show. Are these films truly celebrating the magic of their animated originals, or are they just cash grabs wrapped in flashy CGI?
We’ll unpack Disney’s reliance on its vault of classics, the ripple effects this trend has on Hollywood, and whether the industry's obsession with remakes is leading to a creativity crisis. Plus, we’ll spotlight flops like Dumbo (2019) and Pinocchio (2022) and celebrate fresh successes like Everything Everywhere All At Once and Barbie.

    I appreciate the effort put into this video. It definitely took serious time to write and put together the visuals. But I don't feel that it succeeded in its goal. This video spent a lot of time asking question... Maybe every 5th sentence is a question. I kept waiting for the intro, where the questions of the video are typically established, would end, so that the actual new content of the video, attempting to answer these questions, could begin. But it never did. Even up to the end of the video, it was still just asking questions that it never attempted to answer. That's not fulfilling to me as a viewer. I want to hear your take on the answers. I want you to support those answers with evidence. Sure, there are a few references to Dumbo and Space Jam, but you don't set up a thesis or provide evidence to support it. You ask a lot of good questions, ones that people have been asking for a few years now. But you never give us a perspective on the answers to those questions. And if you personally don't have a position on those answers, that's okay. You don't need to present *your* view on the answers. But unless you present *some* view, even if it's combining and summarizing the perspectives of others, you don't create a satisfying video, in my opinion. Best of luck on your channel.

    My thoughts on this video is I have nothing against this remakes manly because I've gotten used to them and even though that I know that they are cash grabs I went to see mufasa on the holiday season knowing fully well that it's nothing other than a cashgrab and I frankly enjoyed it so I think that as far as this remakes are good people will keep watching them I think llio and stich and how to train your dragon will prove that if they are a good film and Hollywood do make original films it's just that nobody watches it which means that they flop at the box office that's why they are remaking everything now and barbie is not an original property

    deadass the script sounds like something made by chatGPT "New games like Mingle and *Spinning Top* "??? Did you mean Six-legged Pentathlon? "Hidden Island twist" even though it was already revealed in s1 that the games took place on an island? "Captain working with Jun-ho" even though he is (allegedly) working for the games? "Cruelly stomps on bread meant for *new players* " even though the homeless dudes he trolled weren't recruitees?

    • @babs3241
      @babs3241 4 дні тому

      The last one I noticed, too, because yes... that was explicitly not about recruiting. That was just the salesman's hobby. I think the "hidden island twist" wasn't that it was on an island, but that the kindly captain who'd saved Jun-ho was deliberately looking in the wrong place. (In other words, the search for the hidden island plotlline, not the island itself.) I agree with the general thesis of the vid, but he lost me on his slur on Mockingjay, which was the culmination of all the thematic work in the series.

    I have never understood this idea that "we need Superman." There is absolutely nothing throughout the twentieth century that suggests that humanity was made better because somebody created a comic character back in 1938. Fans may get mad because this iteration or that iteration didn't make them feel good about themselves in the theater, but either way they walk out exactly as they walked in. Nothing is made better because "Superman." People should get a hold of themselves.

Always fascinating how little DC fans know about their own hobby.

      @MSgt_0699 12 днів тому

      @ Yet, since 1989, Batman has been the only consistent crowd pleaser. General interest is up right now over a new iteration of Superman. Isn't that always the case? Superman Returns. MoS. And then the Super fans freak out over a hair out of place and that's the end. And most people could not care less about Creature Commandos. It's a cartoon. _Superman_ has to be a banger in a way that makes people feel that they want to know more of this universe. That is the only way that DC is going to be allowed to present more characters on film.

    • @bishopwhite1822
      @bishopwhite1822 11 днів тому

      @MSgt_0699 I think you project you own feelings and desires on everyone else. Sure Batman had the most interest, also had the most films. So that's just people knowing what they are shown. Talking about what actually is. Again, plenty of their shows are successful. And yes some are animated, and that doesn't diminish them. As years of Maga will show, some things you just can't make live action without more money than the Vatican.

    He went back to the WWE and named himself the final boss without being in the company for YEARS. That pretty much explains Dwayne.

    The last time I remember him doing anything close to acting was the _Jumanji_ movies where he plays a dorky teen and then a confused old man

    He has the acting skills of a pro wrestler, and it’s hard not to notice. While his good looks once worked in his favor, years of bulking up have diminished that appeal, leaving us with a colossal figure whose acting remains subpar-though his surprisingly good singing abilities deserve credit. He’s no Michael Jai White when it comes to action movie combat skills, nor is he on par with Russell Crowe as an actor. Once charming and handsome, he seems to have lost both his looks and his allure, and audiences have grown wise to the cracks in his persona. And so, here we are.

    The rock is only partially to blame for his recent movie failures. The bulk of the blame rest in writer/ directors. His arrogance and his disconnected perspective on what audiences like. But I’d say more if the blame should go to the writer/ directors of his movies. His movies are bad with or without him. And even without having to pay his bloated paycheck, those movies would still be financial failures. He doesn’t have the influence to green light these poorly written, poorly directed movies.
