1989
So so sad
So so sad
So so sad
So so sad
So so sad
So so sad
So so sad
So so sad
First F1 meeting i went to, after that definitely a Stuart Smith fan R.I.P smithy the real number 1
Aycliffe was called aycliffe for action and with good reason.love seeing these old meetings
I was there aged 8. Look how full it is?
The GOAT
great upload i loved screen sport thank you for the upload
hello great upload i loved screen sport i wich it would comeback
You did really well for a first time out. Brilliant.
We used to race back then and bought stew Smith transporter great times
Stuart Hall...lol...creepy as...
Brilliant footage. Used to go with my dad when I was a kid. Can't believe this video exists tbh, well done
👍
Good times thanks for that 😊
I recall Noel Edmonds being MC at a meeting at Wembley, c. 1975, when Stuart showed a clean pair of heals to top rally, Formula 1 and other drivers, going the wrong way around the track in identical Mark 1 Escorts. I think Denny Hulme was the F1 driver and the rally guy could have been Timo Makinen. He couldn't shut up about it on his Radio 1 breakfast show the following Monday.
Was wolfie driving Close's car ? I used to go to a pub in Starbotton near Kettlewell and could hear close testing at his premises just behind. I remember mellows car had to have an extra crank in the cab side so he could get in, he was a big lad !
I used to love Hyde Road, you could guarantee that at some time during the evening, there'd be a blues and twos going past on the main road ! Best racing though, much missed. A lot less stoppage than modern WFs , a better track ?
Who's the presenter, she's an absolute babe.
Love the old tanks! No tyre problems, put on what ex rally tyres you can. Always liked Northampton as a tarmac, I know it went shale to replace Coventry but i miss the tar, especially F2s were spectacular there. Amazing how many names are still in the sport, all beit different generations. I miss the Smith, Wainman rivalry! Come back Andy!
3rd gear? Lol
Yes the Nissan 'Godzilla' Skyline were fast, DJR Ford Sierra's ( 600++ HP 650 BY 92, 290kph on Conrod ) were No slouch!! I was at Bathurst 1999 it is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME seeing on TV is one thing being 'there' is quite another!!!! one year HDT Commodores both broke their timing chain DEAD engine, ( i do not recall the year ).
Haha just outside Sydney,it would be like half way across The UK.
This is the 1991 Bathurst, not 1989 as the description has it.
Well spotted ! I will amend, thanks.
@@speeduk7403you still haven't
Great drive by Doug there 👍🏻
Ahhhhh …. Those bygone days when you could go to the Speedway or the Stockcar Races and then go into Belle Vue Funfair and really enjoy an amazing evening …. All gone now helped by the ineptitude of the Manchester Council … we had a World Class Venue … an amazing historical site … the councillors of Manchester City Council in the 1980’s should be absolutely ashamed of themselves …. It should have been declared a grade 2 listed site and saved for future generations to enjoy … I worked at Belle Vue for the best 8 years of my life …met my wife there and we’re still together 39 years later … I left before it closed down because I could see the writing on the wall … especially when Trust House Forte took over and put a bunch of Hotel Managers in charge … they couldn’t run a Piss Up in a Brewery and they totally destroyed Belle Vue …. Sad …. Sad …. Sad ….☹️😕😥🙁
Brilliant, that brought back so many precious memories. Best man won. Again..
He made up so much ground, the master.
I was a massive Len Wolfenden fan......190..... Happy days, the track I went to Belle Vue👍
They always used to overwater the track back then. If you stood at either end of the track there was a lot of shale being flung. The track in recent years seemed harder dustier shale
Good race, pity the camera person decided to point the camera at stationary cars when things were getting hot
Humble guy.
Hello does anyone know the transmission date of this Swap Shop...i maybe able to track down the whole show if it still exists as alot of Swap Shop has been wiped..i might be able to get the master copy
Dont know exact date, this is a transfer from an off-air Betamax recording
@@speeduk7403 ok thankyou..ill do some digging about and get back to you
I think we’ve narrowed it down to around 8th October 1979. Should have been show the week before, but postponed due to coverage of the Popes visit to Ireland.
@@LesCotton60 thankyou
@@LesCotton60 6th October 1979 says the programme still exists in full....
Over watered track?
One of the great World Finals.
Would have been good to hear the cars though .
Smith was the greatest. #1
After the Bradford football stadium fire, where a small fire ripped through a wooden stand so fast, many people lost there lives, many others long term injures all wooden stadiums then come into question. Most of the Bigger british stockcar stadiums were so had no chance.Unless massive ground up rebuild and investment.Alot had greyhound tracks too and animal welfare made the front pages at the time.Wasnt nice. But i still go eatbourne watch some stockcars.
It was a dinosaur, had to go, can you imagine todays crowd levels in a place like that, it had had a good run & served it's purpose well, but upkeep would have been prohibitive.
1st time seen this version of this.£4000 then now equilifent of just under £26000
I was wrapped up in a blanket...only a baby...but still recall the ashes and dirt....and the Buitiful Smell of Castrol R 40 vegetable based oil .. Those were the days ..
I was there but on the day I didn't notice that Lundy passed 29 cars with no stoppages - some drive on tarmac that.
Happy Memories as a young boy, Hartlepool Stock car racing track
What really happened Fred Mitchell Don Evans era at Coventry opposite end from pits ,Stuart was young ambitious when several cars piled smashed caught in a mele, i saw Stuarts car climbing or attempting to climb over cars when the Stadium lights were switched off, through the half light i saw drivers running towards the pile up one was Fred Mitchell , when the lights came on Stuart was parked opposite Start Line by Grand Stand ,what happened that night any one willing to explain.
