Destination: Catawba Falls - Ridge Trail, near Catawba Falls, NC
On September 12, 2024 we are off on another adventure.
This trip was right outside of Old Fort, NC near Catawba Falls. This area has been closed for a while for renovations being made to the trail and falls, to include a staircase to facilitate easier access to the Falls. The stair case consists of about 500 steps. Going up steps are not friendly to my knees. So we decided to take the Ridge Trail that leads up to the Top of the Upper Falls and then comes down the stairs and continue back to the parking lot. The trail is very well maintained and wide. Unfortunately we did not get to finish this planned hike. About half way through, near the top of the mountain I had a fall, no serious injuries, Thank you Lord, but after resting for a little while, we decided we should go back the way we came. (Just a FYI, it’s been a week since my fall and I still have some soreness, but hopefully it will all be gone in a few more days). The Ridge Trail has some switchbacks making the uphill climb a little easier. This trail turned out to be very steep the further up we hiked. We went a little over a mile up, with an elevation change of ~840 feet. This video only includes images of the Ridge Trail. Hope you enjoy the video.
