Turning Classic Books into Art
As an author and lover of books (along with wanting to have a new creative outlet) I've decided to start making a couple of different art pieces inspired by classical books. This is just a quick video documenting that process along with a few snippets from the stories themselves.

Indie Author Attempts Canton Trade Days

At the end of June I decided to throw my hat in the ring and try and sell my book and other merch at the giant flea market in Canton, Texas for First Monday Trade Days. Things quickly soured in my favor as the heat and humidity of that weekend shot up from previous days and produced an abysmal turnout. Sometimes you just have to learn things the hard way 😅 Other places you can find me: facebook...

Mikey’s “it’s our time” speech is one of the best inspirational speeches in movies, second to the President speech from Independence Day and Captain America’s speeches in the MCU.

that just looks so unbelievably discouraging. and i know it's easier to be a critic...but you'd think these outdoor vending events would figure out a way to make it cooler for the guests. I definitely never want to go to an outdoor event when it's hot. I don't know if I could just be on big huge tent with LOOOOOOTS and LOOOTS of fans.....or just make it an indoor event for that year knowing the weather will be so bad.

It's funny that the Little Rascals was mentioned. Did you recognize Alfalfa in the high school scene? He is the guy talking to Mary that George told to stop annoying people! That's the actor that played Alfalfa. You two are a lot of fun! You've got a great friendship that's fun to see.

Yes, it makes no sense but generally there are laws against committing suicide (perhaps to thwart assisted-suicide/euthanasia as anyone helping the person could be convicted of the same crime even if the main person was dead). There are the same laws in England. In Gilbert & Sullivan's Ruddigore, a witch's curse requires each heir to the title to commit a crime a day or die in agony. The operetta is resolved when the hero argues to NOT do a crime is tantamount to suicide, which IS a crime - problem solved. That was Jimmy the Raven, a well-trained bird that appeared in dozens of films at the time. He is also in the 1939 Wizard of Oz when he swoops down to steal a piece of straw from the Scarecrow (who obviously can't do his job of scaring crows). The gym with the swimming pool is a real deal in CA. (I also think it was a one-of-a-kind.) Last I heard it still works. The guy who was talking to Mary at the dance and then uses the key to open the pool played Alfalfa in Little Rascals. He was the victim of a brutal murder several years later. Ornate bannisters like that were invariably carved in oak. The turned piece that topped the newel post was attached with an iron screw thread in it which also threaded into a hole in wood below. (They didn't have very good glue back then.) The wood would shrink over time and the threaded rod and the top piece would come loose. Anyone watching this film back then would have known this and understood George picking it up each time. The Bible does not support the idea that when people die, they go to heaven and become angels, even though that has become a common motif. And I doubt that a perfect afterlife would NOT require you to work to get your wings. Also "As2" as the "A" is for angel, the "s" for second class so the 2 is not needed. (I've watched this movie too many times.) Saturday Night Live did a spoof of the ending of this film. Clarence watching George's life unfold would have seen Potter take the money, so all the townspeople in the segment go beat up on Potter. I'd never heard the phrase "Adam's Off Ox" before, either. According to Wiki: As it turns out, the yoke's on us: What's “off” isn't the ox itself but its position. In a team of two oxen, the ox farther from the driver is called the “off ox.” The old-fashion phrase, which describes someone or something unfamiliar, usually appears is a more intense version of “I don't know him from Adam.” This movie came way before the Muppets. People always ask about "Bert & Ernie" coming from this film, but that phrase is only uttered once in the whole movie. At the time when the Muppets were being created, I don't think this movie had become as popular as it is now, so few people would even remember the two names together. When Ernie shoots at George at the end, several lights go out in the Pottersville sign behind George. The movie was not very successful when it was released. Someone messed up on getting a copyright claim so a couple of decades later, local tv stations could play this movie at will at off hours, and it slowly built up a following.

It's a wonderful movie! It has become a beloved Christmas classic. However, it was denounced by the FBI as Communist propaganda after its release. They claimed the movie displayed poor old Mister Potter, the Banker, as grasping and greedy when he was just being a fine American Capitalist. Oddly enough, neither the FBI nor the movie itself ever denounced him for stealing the $8,000 that Uncle Billy lost. I guess, since he was an upstanding Capitalist, it was a simple case of "Finders keepers, losers weepers," huh? P.S. $8,000 in 1946 would be worth about 125,000 in 2023.

First, like a lot of shows back in the day, this is a "monster of the week" show, but with crime solving instead of monster hunting a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural. So you have the episode mystery and the seasonal mystery. If you approach it that way, you may enjoy it more. Second, the way they handle the seasonal mystery actually IS more realistic. Especially for cases like this that have gone cold. It can be months, or years before there is movement on the case. Most cases are solved within the first few days, or way later when new evidence comes to light or never. This is one of the more realistic aspects of Veronica Mars.

3:40 - There is definitely a reason why Logan would know what Brigadoon is, but it hasn't happened yet. *Spoilers ahead for up to the end of episode 6* He's an actor's kid. Most actors know about Brigadoon, so would likely watch with their kids. Even if he's not a great parent, I can see Aaron making it a priority to teach Logan all about what he does as a career, and the classics of film history.

One of the things about the Logan redemption part of this episode, it really didn't fully start yet, despite Logan getting 500k to the food shelf. He did that because on their way there, his dad accepted the deal to do the movie for 8 figures, but earlier he told Logan the movie was terrible, and he wasn't going to do it. It was his dads fakeness that pissed him off and so he dis something to piss his dad off back, even knowing that that would mean him getting beaten with a belt afterwards. What this ahows is he does have a sense of right and wrong, but he only really applies it to him and hia dad at this moment. But yea, while it doesn't excuse it, we do see where a lot of his negative behavioral traits come from.

2 reasons why most actors who portray highschoolers are in their 20's is that 1: child labor laws limit the hours acotrs under 18 can work. And 2: acting experience. Most young actors lack the experience to deliver on a consistent basis.

I hadn't caught the Smokey, the barely legal comment until recent rewatch, and yes, that is gross when you consider 2 things. 1 the guy saying it was supposed to be a friend to her and her family, and 2, Veronica is 16, so not remotely barely legal yet.
