Built by Willie, flown by Willie!. This was the first good wing out of the mold. Gave it to Willie to build. Fiberglass and carbon dbox. Heavy!. 305g all up! It flys great at this weight. Now they're coming in at 240-250g all up, four in the pod, and fly even better. He really did a great job building it. He did a top drive install with two in the pod. Kst's on the wing and d47's for the pull s...

After 4 minutes, i grabbed my phone and recorded with one hand and flew with the other. :
What is material of the mold??
The mold is made from Corian
Hi, Is this a 3d printed mould? Would you share the print file? Thanks for your reply
Hi! I tried myself a first attemp at using a balloon as a bladder inside the moulds but, as I applied pressure it made almost all resin escape. I for sure know that my moulds can be distorted and not sealing properly (already planning to rebuild them) but I wanted to know if you wait until the resin gets to the gel stage or you apply pressure right after closing the moulds. Also: what layup would you recommend for a DLG pod? Thanks for sharing!
The fishing line usage is genius! Excellent lateral thinking to provide a super simple solution to a problem.
I didn’t think of it. Just copying a process I’ve seen that works.
What material is your mold made from? Aluminum?
Milled Corian 👍
Hi what thickness is the Corian slab, I am trying to order thick one to make a DLG pod+boom as well. Wanted to avoid wood because it expands too much in winter/summer.
Superbe travail !!
Whoops! a little late to the party. Beautiful work. It looks like you were using Corian for your mould. Did you take it to a CNC machine to have the 'rough cut' routed out?
Thanks! I milled all my other molds. This one I adopted from another builder. I have adapted it for a canopy recess. But that’s all I’ve done to it.
Que maravilloso trabajo, muchas gracias por compartir 👌👌👌
Brilliant !
Pucha essa dica do balão e muito boa
🎉
Hey sorry for asking but can you tell me how you made your mold and can it be made on a cnc machine
Yes, made on a small cnc. Both top and bottom are two pieces then epoxied together.
@@bc663 ok and if its not a problem what material can i use
I used Corian. Countertop material.

Do you have any documentation or links on how you set up Bluetooth and web page? I saw other CG scales like this but this is a whole other level. Very nice!
This build was from rcgroups. I will find the builder and credit him. This video was just on how to use it. 👍

Thank you for sharing :) May the wind be with you
Hi what is the prep work needed for using corian as mold?
Wax then PVA. That’s it. 👍
Hello ! Nice video 👍🏻 What is the chemical you are using thickened mixture? And why are you using it?
Are cores CNC milled?
These in the video are not. These are hot wired. I have machined xps and rohacell on other builds, just takes more time. 👍
I taught core should be very precise...I will try to do this with hotwired as well. I will use printed mold.
@@jurijblazin7835 no core needed, just use thin sheet of foamcore and apply it on the carbon fiber skin with vacuum bag to mold the halves, then glue the halves - the structure will be lighter and easier to produce.
I made the same way my tails but I used 3D printed mold. On some parts fibre cloth is not stiched with cps foam. I predume due to not proper size of foam core. How much bigger cores did you made? Thanks for advice. Jurij
@@jurijblazin7835 Do you have the stl fil ?? 🙏🙏🙏🙏
great video ! would you share the file of this tails in order to make the molds? thank you very much
very nice!
Hello there, how are you ? im making some tests with mold and ballon and there is no way to get 25 psi pressure, it explote every time. It´s happend to you? I think maximum 15 psi is my limit...any thoght of what is wrong? thanks !
Experiment. Maybe it’s the balloon. Maybe your mold idk. Maybe gauge regulator is wrong. Make a video and post it. 👍
@@bc663Yes posible something of those are wrong.... when you put the layer of Unidireccional you put the lines parallel to the fuselage or perpendicular ? thanks
@@magneresjuan everything at 0-90 yes parallel
@@bc663 Thanks !!!!!!
@@bc663 Is there any reason why you choose the " flat side " of the mold to be the one you put around the inflate tube ? can I do it in the other side or there is a reason ? thanks as always
Good morning, what is those two pink and blue little rocks you put on the nose in minute 4.53 ? thanks. You don´t use any glass fiber right?
Just penny rolls to hold the fabric down until it got saturated and tacky. 👍
@@bc663 Perfect ! thanks !
@@bc663 perfect! do you think a twill carbon fiber of 200 gr with the tow ok 100 gr and fiber glass will work? here in Argentina we don´t have unidirectional of 100 gr, only 200 gr but is very expensive. what do you think replace de unidirectional for twill 200 gr? thanks
@@magneresjuan search eBay. There are a bunch of options. 👍
@@bc663 thouse are my option can´t buy on ebay bacause they won´t send it to Argentina. You think twill will work or you not sure ? thanks BC
thank you for your response, 1) the the 80 gsm textreme and uni carbon you glue it one on top of the other and put it in the mold ? 2) what about the balloon ? do you let it inflate for 2 days while fuselage is curing?
Yes 3m77 the textreme, uni, and glass together. The Kevlar is 2 layers of 2oz glued together for a total of 4 layers. Ballon is inflated for 24 hrs.
If the balloon sticks you have too much epoxy
@@bc663 Great !!! thank you very much!!!!
@@bc663 do you put something on the ballon in order not to get stick ? thanks
@@magneresjuan nothing on the balloon. If the balloon sticks the fabric was too wet. Debulk more next time.
nice fuse !!! Im about to try my first one, could you tell me exactly what are your materials that you use ? I mean looks like a spread plain carbon fiber of 120k? and the other side has a unidirectional carbon fiber ? could you please telle me what did you use or wich could be the perfect layers? thank you!
I use, from outside to inside: 80gsm textreme, 4oz uni carbon, 3/4 glass Pod is 4 layers of 2oz Kevlar. Add some 12k carbon tow in the saddle area and you’re golden! Good luck. Get Lots of practice. Will take you about a dozen to get it right. Don’t give up!
nice job ! does that bladder not stock harder to the epoxy ?
The key is to debulk the fabric as much as you can. Too much epoxy and the balloon will stick
Good Job
Thank you
Great video,. Can I ask about your mold, is it cnc'd quartz, or a poured epoxy?
The mold is cnc’d Corian, a man made countertop. :)
Bravo
It does take allot of practice, but after a while it all comes together.
Nice Work ... hoping to try this myself.
good job
You make it look easy, but I know there's a lot of prep that goes into very nice fuse. Good job. W.
What is molds material?
Looks like corian too me.
Yes, he's producing some gorgeous DLGs. But you know all of the COVID-19-toilet-paper-hoarding-wackos are gonna FREAK at 4:10 in this video! On a serious note...I'm learning a lot from this guy and you Tom (if you're Tom43004 on RCG). Thanks for taking the time to share.
Try moving the cg back more
I 've made a 1m wing, wiht the same fuselage and boom lenght and seems to be a little more pitch sensitive than what it should
didnt realize you were talking about the 1m version. yes, larger, thicker boom and longer. I used a thicker boom, still flexed though, and made it longer, closer to the length of 1m ships.
@@bc663 hooo ok ok thank you so much
The boom is to the plans. I think i did widen the pod to fit the electronics. Fun little glider. Nice break from the full size.
Did you enlarge the boom?
That is a nice little glider. It flew so well. Really kept up with the Gambler. Now if you can just stop running into me. ;-)
