Great approach to keep the interval and change only entry point and destination point when making music with scales and arpeggios - new ideas👌
Repetition of the basics and beyond is always a good thing to do no matter what skill level - I absolutely agree - your podcast is the best I have come across so far and I have stumbled upon numerous more or less valuable over the course of time
❤
Great teaching❤
Excellent lesson❤
Thank you for another valuable lesson ❤ - please check the description of the voicings - they show 7 not 6
The second minor voicing in the description has a 9th at the end, is that intended or should there be a 5th? Thanks for your answer in advance
❤
Very concise and clear lessons ❤
Previous of student of Bob Winters, would love to personally hear his thoughts on jazz. If you could in any way help me reconnect, that would be amazing.

Stoked to be the first ever view (listen) of this video :)
I'm stoked, too, and Welcome to Jazz Piano Skills! Merry Christmas!
THIS IS ACTUALLY SO GOOD WHERE ARE THE VIEWS HELOO?
Thank you! Spread the word - much appreciated!
Very cool!! :)
Let me know if you have any questions!
Always love being here and humbled to share the holiday with the great Dr Bob.
Josh - you're too kind! The pleasure is mine. It was great seeing you and walking through the Vince Guaraldi solo together. As always, your insight is spot on! Merry Christmas!
How do I download and print the transcript?
The transcription?
I own two of his books and I’ve always loved the comments and notes additions to the pedagogical part of the books, and I’ve always wondered how humble and fun this person must be. All this was confirmed here. Thank you so much for your approach and for being a down to earth person Mr Bert Ligon.
Backing tracks w/ bass, piano, and drums...sounds good!
I love listening to the backing tracks on their own, especially Cantaloupe Island (Herbie Hancock)!!!
Professor Ligon is a very generous educator. Great person
Liz is incredible!! She changed my life
Gold lesson! 1:17 Scales 7:10 Voicings 11:27 Repertoire 19:52 Ear training 24:33 The importance of history 26:58 How to improvise 33:35 Transcriptions 41:20 Accompanying 42:52 Time
Thank you for this Dr. Bob!
Two talented pianist and educators. Studied with Bob back in late 90's at Dallas School of Music (I wasn't the most dedicated student, but learned a lot from him). Also bought all of Bert Ligon's books back then too.
Wonderful interview. I have just bought both of his books
My piano teacher!
Great conversation! A lot of knowledge and experience to share.
The insights in this video are tremendous! Thank you for putting this out :)
Interesting! I’ll check that method, and the novels are intriguing! Thank you
Lots of wisdom in this interview. Thank you
Clearly the best thing I've watched on UA-cam in years.
VERY FUN! i SWEAR YOU LOOK LIKE mATT oWENS....
Greetings to both great music masters!
Thanks for having me, Bob!
Always fun to hear Josh and Dr. Bob's interaction and perspectives. 👍
What a great interview! Thanks for sharing with us!
Dan Hearle took sessions in London, Richmond upon Thames in 2004! I really have a high regard for his great knowledge of jazz, harmony and melody! His work there for me was very inspirational. Thanks Dan, from Victor! God bless you!
The bulk of what McCoy Tyner played on Blue Bossa was C-6/9 and F-6/9 with few rare C-7 and F-7 chords popping up in the midst of it all. The same went for Barry Harris playing Blue Bossa. I am not sure why it has become C-7 Dorian-centric instead.
I took Bert's jazz theory class as an undergrad at USC...it wasnt until then when I got the full grasp of music.
Such a fantastic interview, thank you so much! I really enjoyed both parts to this, I feel like you guys could have talked all day! What a legend Jamey Aerbersold is and what a service he has done for Jazz education. As a classically trained musician I would never have had a go at improvising without his materials.....great humour and warmth in this interview. Loved the bit about the couple listening to the II-V-I album...SO funny!!
Truly inspiring!!!
Thanks!
please keep doing this❤
this man's books are great, but his personality is even better.
I worked at original Dick Grove School of Music and remember Liz Kinnon very well first as a student and later as a teacher at the school. She's not only a great pianist but one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. Sure good to see her again.
Very worthwhile to listen to super advice like this. It may seem a long interview but the solid advice will save hours of misdirected practice! Many thanks for the interview.
Liz, when you mentioned how important the ears are, and about ditching the fake books, I was reminded of choral music composer in a workshop saying that a music reader opens a book to the score pages and plays from those, and an ear player opens a book to the table of contents and plays from that.
Ron is one of the best jazz pianists in the world. He is also an amazing piano teacher. His perspective on music is unique. Getting to know him is the best turning point in my life.
