Yes I did!! I Made Cucumber Hydrosol With My Vevor Alcohol Distiller 💥
Check out how I modified the Vevor 3 gal alcohol distiller to do a steam distillation. It is surprisingly simple to do, it’s super fun, and I know the hydrosol and essential oils I make are clean and organic.
For an affordable price, I can easily turn my cucumber harvest into hydrosol and essential oil in my kitchen from my organic cucumber harvest.
Not only that, I can use essential oils and hydrosols in other recipes. For example, hydrosols can be used as refreshing sprays and simple syrups.
Cucumber hydrosol is loaded with nutrients like potassium, magnesium, vitamins A, B, & C, biotin, and enzymes that give it properties to benefit our skin:
•Vitamin C and caffeic acid help reduce water loss, inflamed
and/or irritated skin.
•Silica helps to lighten dark circles and spots on our skin.
•Flavanoids, tannins & vitamin C prevent free radicals, reduces
signs of aging and protect skin from the sun.
•Potassium, sulfate, and vitamins A & C soothe sunburns.
•Enzyme erepsin provides skin softening properties.

Mint Hydrosol & Essential Oil with Vevor Alcohol Distiller

    Thanks for your informative videos! I’m looking at getting one of these distillers and your content has been very helpful. Two questions - how long would the cucumber hydrosol last? And how is it best stored? Thanks 😊

      Hi!! Thank you for watching. I’m so glad I am able to help. Great questions that inspired some research. I found that glass is best for storage and clear glass allows to see if any blooms appear in the hydrosol. Also I found that pH is the indicator for shelf life. General rule is pH of 5 or less will last around 12 months and pH over 5 lasts around 6 months. pH will apparently change over time. Hope this helps :) and thanks again for the question. I’m learning too. There are links in the description for supplies. We get commissions when people purchase through our links. Much gratitude 🙏🏼

      Thank you for watching!! Great question. Steam distillation is typically used with flowers and leaves. Use just water for citrus rinds, but either grate or blend the rinds before putting them in the still. I am collecting rinds in my freezer now for various citrus distillations and their essential oils. Subscribe for notifications of new posts 💚🌱🌏

    One thing I would change. Those nails you use, stick with stainless only! Those nails are made out of unknown steel and it can be toxic. Get some ss bolts in the length you need and some ss nut and your set!

    • @farmtofamilyhomestead
      @farmtofamilyhomestead 3 місяці тому

      Thank you for the comment! I appreciate your concern and warnings. I would never use random, unknown metal nails. Everyone who watches and reads these comments should also be aware of the dangers around using just any metal. The nails were stainless, which I did mention in the video. However, I switched the stainless nails to stainless bolts with nuts, so they are secured to the steamer better. You can see the change in the lavender video. Again, thank you for the heads up. I will post the video where I show how to attach the bolts to clear up any confusion for future viewers. The lavender video shows the vegetable steamer with 3” stainless bolts instead of 3.5” stainless nails.

    For my Kubota tire, I used a large ratchet strap (the kind you strap a car down on a trailer) and wrapped it around the tire and tightened it until the center of the tire squished inward and pushed the bead to the rim. I then put air in and simultaneously tap the sidewall of the tire with a dead blow hammer. Anyway, that worked for my small tractor tire to get the bead to seat. I like the duck bill accessory kit you have. I may buy that. Good video.

    • @farmtofamilyhomestead
      @farmtofamilyhomestead 3 місяці тому

      @emmacurry7056, Great question! I changed the plant material for each run and cleaned out the still, adding new water to just below the steamer. Each run generated between 750mL and 1L of hydrosol, with the still holding about 2L of water beneath the steamer. With these volumes I am assured the still won’t run dry.
