The Next Step: Preparing a Vintage Quilt for a Stunning Coat
In this continuation of my quilt coat project, I demonstrate the transformation process. After carefully hand-stitching logs and cutting out the pattern pieces, I prepare the quilt for serging and mending. Watch as I share my methods for selecting key areas of the quilt, stitching down loose logs, and reinforcing the fabric to ensure this jacket will not only be beautiful but also wearable. As the project progresses, I'll test the quilt's fabric to ensure colors stay vibrant and don’t bleed during washing. This part of the journey is all about precision, creativity, and keeping the integrity of this vintage piece intact.

In this video, I carefully work on a section of the vintage log cabin quilt that will be transformed into a coat. Watch as I stitch the delicate blue fabric and ensure it aligns with the red log for a clean, secure finish. Though I’m not as skilled as the original quilter, I’m preserving their craftsmanship while preparing the quilt for its new life. Follow along to see the intricate process of turning history into fashion!

In this video, I share a quilt coat that combines two of my favorite things: vintage feedsack fabrics and mid-century modern design. This hand-knotted jacket features beautiful swatches of both, along with a cozy, thicker texture that makes it perfect for chilly days. The original quilt lining, slight drop shoulder, and four front snaps give it a timeless appeal, while the two pockets keep your hands warm. If you love blending history with modern fashion, this quilt coat is a must-see!

In this video, I take the next steps in preparing a vintage log cabin quilt for transformation into a jacket. Watch as I secure the most delicate areas of the quilt before cleaning it, ensuring it’s in the best shape for the final project. By carefully repairing only the sections that will be used, I preserve the quilt’s original charm while making it sturdy enough for its new life as a wearable piece. In this video, I take a stunning vintage quilt featuring beautiful eight-point stars and repurpose it into a thick, cozy jacket-perfect for winter. This unique coat is crafted entirely from reclaimed fabric, using the original quilt's binding and only adding four new snaps. The rich yellow and orange backgrounds and the vibrant circle of green make this jacket truly one-of-a-kind. Watch how I transform an old quilt into a wearable piece of warmth and history, ready to keep you snug during the colder months. Ideal for those passionate about sustainable fashion, quilting, and upcycling.

Beautful jacket! Great work. Maybe try washing it again with baking soda and lemon juice, then hang the jacket(inside out so the white part is exposed) out in the sun to dry. That may remove the stains from the white fabric inside.

Take a look at the latest addition to my quilt coat collection! This coat is made from an incredibly rare Civil War-era log cabin quilt, featuring narrow logs that have beautifully aged. After a thorough cleaning, the original dark blue and deep red colors have faded, adding even more character to this unique piece. With a drop shoulder and generous fit, this quilt coat makes a bold statement from every angle. Join me as I share the fascinating details of this historical and fashionable creation.
