Geddy Lee Talks Bootlegs 1979
Переглядів 2785 місяців тому
Geddy Lee of the rock band Rush says he's most concerned about subpar sound quality on bootleg recordings, and industry executives say copyright laws need tightening. Aired July 9, 1979 on CBC's The National. Ironic considering the type of stuff I post

I could be wrong but Passage to Bangkok sounds exactly like Exit Stage Left.
Alguém tem video bootleg deles no Rio?
I was at this concert, along with other Rush concerts. This recording is top notch and makes me totally go back in time. THANK YOU SO MUCH. KEVIN NODLAND, ST. LOUIS, MO.
Is this the greatest version of Cygnus X-1? It's so powerful and just has a sinister groove and vibe that even the studio version doesn't...to my ears. Wow! Lerxst CRANKING out those classic Lifeson Chords left and right! ❤
Nice ! I was there too . . . mid floor. Rush kept not coming to Halifax foe maybe 10 years, so Q104 did a big campaign drive for a year or two getting petition signatures etc. And it convinced them to come (though they did not like it in Halifax and did not come back for a long time again). They used Pink Floyd's Canadian based quadraphonic sound system. And man was it awesome. When there were a few sound effects, they rolled around the Metro Centre in 3D. Like a big ball was rolling at you and past you from front left to back right etc. Then "Roll the Bones" came out, and I switched them off for the new Tragically Hip .:)
Eu estava lá! Meu Deus do céu que noite🙏🏻😍
Fantastic ❤🥁🔥👊the best trio of the galaxy
Never heard this concert before. It's really good. The sound is amazing. That was a great year for Rush as they still rocked with their signature epic songs like Xanadu, 2112, Natural Science and newer shorter songs like Spirit of Radio, Freewill, ect. And Geddy still sounds youthful and can still hit those high notes.
Live in St. Louis
Awesome to see their creative process in 1979 going on to record Permanent Waves in 1980.
❤
ABC has to have the video somewhere in its archives.

Ugh I hate that I was maybe one or two years old during this clip lol. I missed out on a good tour. I miss my dad and I miss Rush so much That's how I feel when I listen to these guys now is I just really miss my dad my ultimate rush fan and buddy went to 10 concerts together. I'll never forget him. Anywho wonderful footage love that this is archived there's got to be more of this out there right like the entire show?
Someone can definitely do something with this thank you for sharing this incredible archival footage from the signals tour God I wish I was there.
Awesome!!! Thanks!! Cool dog, too!
Love the remaster. This film is from two concerts at Theater 140 near Brussels, Belgium, February 6 and 7th 1971. Produced by Michele Arnaud, who also produced Pink Floyd's film in Pompeii, recorded in October of the same year.
Saw ELP April 25, 1971 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Sold out arena, triple bill. T-Rex opened with Marc Bolan and his pink boa and shoes up to here. Great set. Then ELP came out and completely BLEW EVERYBODY AWAY! Procol Harum headlined and when they came out they were mercilessly booed for being so boring with fans screaming for ELP to come back on stage! They couldn’t of course. We were right down front in front of Keith. I was 19 and fell in love. I’ll never forget it!
Best live version of 2112 ever. I think that was from the St Louis show
Greensboro 79. My first concert. Where have all the good times gone?
Lol sounds good
Why wasn't this whole show Professionally Filmed and Recorded and Exit Stage Left the Concert Film should have been the full Montreal Forum gig . They should release the full film footage of Montreal and if the film of the unsed portion of the show has been lost to time at least give us the full Montreal audio . I wish Rush did a archive series of live releases like the Stones Bob Dylan Neil Young and the Grateful Dead and so many other classic acts of the 60s and 70s but they have never been interested in that sort of thing but since they don't own the catalog anymore You would think the oweners of the catalog would want to do an archive series . Then again perhaps buying the catelog doesn't include unreleased live tapes . There wasn't much live material recorded prior to 1979.. There were a few shows recocrded in 74 for radio broadcasts and a couple more in 75 but there were no actual full blown pro Multitrack live recordings done in 74 and 75 . The shows recorded for radio were usually just 2 track Sounboard tapes or they would have the radio station Patch into the board and and broadcast in real time and/or record that board feed. They only pro recorded 3 shows in 76 which were the 3 Massey Hall shows for ATWAS live album . They recorded no shows in 77 and 1 or possibly 2 shows was recorded by the BBC in Feb 79 which were never broadcast and Rush were given the Tapes and the show was released in part in 97 on different stages and then released in full on the expanded Fairwell to kings . In 79 they start to record multiple shows on each tour . They filmed and recorded 4 shows in London in 79 and recorded a dozen or so shows in 1980. They recorded around 10 shows in the UK and at least 1 and possibly 2 shows at the Kiel in St Louis and in 1981 they recorded every Canadian show so you have Montreal 3 Toronto shows Edmonton Vancouver and i forget the rest . Alex said in an interview that they had recorded at least 6 shows in every tour going back to the Hemispheres tour so it sounds like there are at least 2 more pro recorded shows From the Hemispheres tour besides the 1 in London but Alex could be Misrememberinhg and its only 4 . By the Counterparts and Test For Echo they weree recording a large majority of the shows on each tour. I believe Alex said they recorded 45 shows between those 2 tours alone . By the mid 90s live pro recording had become much easier and less expensive. Rush have live recordings from 1979 to 2015 in vast quantities . They could do a never ending amount of releases .
Saw this tour in Dallas, my first concert my parents allowed me to drive.
Damn. tight. keep up the great work fellas.
Sick dude
Thank you Mr. Toilet
All Day Brother
This is a phenomenal bootleg.... Lifeson did not get buried in the mix... Exit Stage Left was was a bit bass heavy...
Balling my eyes out at the Majesty of it all
Moving Pictures Was still a Dream......
Say it AGAIN....world needs to hear That
Was there a date for this show?
スネアいい音🎌
where is CC?
Aahahahahaa, O Neil Peart erra na entrada do solo do Alex, faz a virada uma volta antes. Genial
Sim! E depois repete na hora correta. Eu tava lá e lembro de notar isso ao vivo! Kk
That’s the best solo I’ve ever heard on Bangkok. What a fucking set list.
Neil looks so incredibly badass
Metallica took a stance on this back in the early '00s, if I recall?
good luck finding footage not too many VCRs this early. I saw this show it was terrific
lol...12 tons of vinyl and cardboard...or about 50,000 albums...thats not even close to what napster was pirating per hour pre-lars( not just rush...but every recorded piece of music in history)...geddy had no idea what was about to go down a decade later
This is new! never seen this one at all. I myself am guilty of listening to bootlegs, but i think nowdays they serve more of an archival function, to preservate what the artist or group sounded like.
🤘🇦🇷
I was there, around row three. We stood on our chairs and it felt like you could touch the band! I wish the whole show existed on video! Awesome!
Eu também estava nesse show!!!!
Massa! Eu estava lá também!
Even 1 second from an ELP show that does not circulate is a gift. THANK YOU! If you have recorded or any of your contacts more from the gig, please upload. Thank you, one thousand times, over.
Thank you for the gem. Do you have any additional audio or video (regardless of quality) to share from the performance? You uploading such greatness is appreciated!
Awesome! Thanx !!!
Charlotte 1980. Neil had his hair cut and me and friend P. Stains got to see them play TomSawyer before Moving Pictures even came out. Great days weaved in smoke!
What strange mishmash on video unrelated to the music
